If you ask for "good music" in a public forum, 95% of the suggestions are going to be **** you don't like. You should know what you are capable of liking, so go find and ask the appropriate people for their suggestions.

If you do end up liking almost 100% of the **** suggested here, then you probably didn't need help from anyone to begin with.

Anyways, I have a few questions of my own:
What's a good movie to watch? Who's the funniest comedian? What's a good type of food to eat? What's a good religion to get into?

Thanks ahead of time guys.

just a word of advice from an elitist music **** who has 30+ gigs of rap music on his computer:

people have horrendous taste in rap. but it may not matter to you.
step your game up i have over 80 gigs of rap, not including other genres lol. and i agree with you about peoples taste in music. rap wise, from what i've read, the only good sh.t i've read was rjd2, binary star and LB. then again i barely read half the first page LOL.

edit: hugs' post was ownerific.

it's only so little cause i have no tolerance for most albums lower than 8/10

there's definitely not 80 gigs of good rap. i don't keep that listen-to-once-every-six-months stuff on my comp.

First of all, music is the one thing you really can't rate as well due to everyone having extremely different tastes and upbringings and all that. Compared to movies and games and other forms of entertainment, music is by far the hardest to put some concrete rating on. I've recommended music to TONS of people and the one thing I learned is that you can't assume people will or won't like something, 'cause they always surprise (or disappoint) you.

That having been said, 90% of people's taste is terrible to the point where I feel like throwing up (NOT people in this thread, just in general).

Relient K is my favorite artist, they're like pop/punk rock. Also since they're my favorite artist it's impossible to recommend just one, but start with Must Have Done Something Right and see how that goes.

Top tiers:
Kings of Convenience - hopefully you know these guys already
Mute Math - try listening to Typical first

Some random others:
The Postmarks - Goodbye
Nujabes - Feather is pretty bomb
Melee - Built to Last
Klaxons - Golden Skans
The Hush Sound -Where We Went Wrong
Holly Brook - Saturdays
Head Automatica - Beating Hearts Baby
Ernie Halter - couldn't find a non-live version but Into this Life, Love Look At Me Now, and Whisper are his best
Day 26 - Since You Been Gone
The Cab - High Hopes in Velvet Ropes

K i'm tired of doing this (i wrote all of this out of order btw, just added stuff here and there as i was doing something boring with relatives so it's not organized exactly how it should be... lol i know most people dont care but it's the celebrity who made rise n shine you deserve to know-), that's a ****load of music you'll probably never listen to anyways. I'm done

Dunno if you like reggae but since you're getting smoked out so much, listen to
The Expendables - start with either Down, Down, Down or Bowl for Two

I'd be shocked if you didn't know these already but I didn't see these mentioned and they're a few of my favorites, so just in case:

Zero 7
Feist
The Rocket Summer
Frou Frou/Imogen Heap
Keane
Corinne Bailey Rae
Shiny Toy Guns
Sufjan Stevens
Mae
Hot Hot Heat
The Format
Daphne Loves Derby

Also Chrono Trigger has the best video game OST.. but I'm biased 'cause it's my favorite game after Melee.

Let me know if you listened and liked/disliked any of them and I'll try to recommend more. I have a lot of techno but I dunno if you're into that.

Also how much music does everyone have? At the moment I have 52 gigs... I don't know how much that is in relation to everyone else, so I'm just curious.

I wonder how many people will actually read this whole thing.

Aaaand I'd also comment on everyone else's lists/taste but that would take forever.

I should just make a playlist of every song I ever thought was good... even though it would take days.

wow, didn't think i'd ever find another elliot smith fan.
elliott smith has two Ts =P I like his music.

yeah. that was enough said, in fact, lets never say anything about screemo again
lol indeed

If you want to listen to rap, dont listen to any mainstream ****
that's not real rap

hey man, there's a lot of good "Emo" out there, though the label is so misused and faulty that i have no idea what bands would be classified as emo by all people and which ones wouldn't

but if you consider something like thursday emo / screamo (and by extension think they suck), then you obv fail at life.

i'm listening to some of kira's stuff but i am so inherently skeptical of all music i'm having a hard time deciding what i like, but not like enough to listen to on a consistent basis, and what i really legitimately like

ps people should put the best albums / works / something to that extent for artists if they really expect someone to get into them. don't you hate giving random artist 123 an honest try and learning five years down the road you heard their experimental mediocrity?

i barely put up any rnb, techno, or other stuff, but a lot of good stuff is there so what i put up is pretty indicative of what i like

let me know what you like or dont like, jw

also im gonna take all your rap when i get to your house, but you're gonna have to tell me what to start with

alright, someone already mentioned rage against the machine, if you like them but dislike the second half of the album where its usually just political stuff with barely any music in the background, look up audioslave, out of exile is a great album (its rage's drummer and guitarist, with the lead singer from soundgarden)

Dropkick Murphys and flogging molly have a lot of good stuff, and if you like them, look up the Tossers
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=xV_L6T6mhRo

most of the good classic rock's been listed, look up the yardbirds, they had jeff beck, eric clapton, and jimmy page right before they all got big. Bob Seger is amazing in general. Emerson Lake and Palmer's pretty good too

drowning pool's pretty good, so is powerman 5000

you probably already have some joe satriani, but if you don't get that, the man is amazing with a guitar. Stevie Ray Vaughn's always good too

old blues
Howlin Wolf
Otis Redding
Paul Butterfield Blues band
Ten Years After (they got good classic rock too)

Dream Theater, Eric Johnson, and anything with John Petrucci in it

queens of the stoneage have some good recorded stuff, but they almost always suck live (there drummer changes every 3 days)

rob zombie's got some good stuff if you like his kind of metal

some softer stuff
Oceansize - anything off Everyone Into Position is good,

I like a lot of music. I can't really say what exactly I prefer, just whatever sounds good I guess.

This is a good trick that has yet to fail me:

If you suspect someone of being shallow, worthless, and possibly a complete waste of your time, try asking them "what kind of music are you into?"

If they respond with "I listen to everything", then you can confirm your suspicions and slowly disassociate yourself from them and anyone they associate with.

This is not to be used on young people. Their age has prevented them from forming a decent character of their own. So they may be cool, but they just don't know anything yet.

I have a very wide taste in music. There are definately some types music that I prefer over others, such as Alt. Rock. And then quite a few types of music that I dislike.I really can't stand screamo, and would rather not listen to country or classical. MCR is complete noise pollution imo.

Just find some music you like and then delve deeper into whatever genre it is. People can only tell you what music they like not what music you like. You just need to figure out for yourself what kind of music you like.

Only absolute idiots say they like everything. Seriously, you don't. Stfu.

If you don't know yourself well enough to make the distinction between what you love and like and etc., you are a total waste of life. That's not even remote hyperbole; you are just a serious waste of human.

This is more than true O_o
I've done this so many times but only now that I look back on it do I realize that all the people with the worst taste say they listen to everything. And then later I find out that means "everything on the radio" or something equally embarrassing.

Is this normal for him? ^^^
Get used to it.
