Super Smash Bros. for WiiU & 3DS director Masahiro Sakurai said: "Pic of the day. The hero from Pikmin 3, Alph joins the battle!! He has pretty much the same set skills as Olimar since he's basically just his variation. He can't use Rock Pikmin either."

He also included a second picture saying "They are different characters, so they each get their own title treatment on the character-selection screen. See? It says Alph."

Alph is just an alternate skin as Olimar. They use the same character slot, otherwise Alph would have gotten his own trailer.

I still don't see why Dark Pit gets his own slot.
Haven't seen anything in the stream to display that he really deserves his own spot. Plus Nintendo has other characters deserve it more [or they need to advertise them more].

I am still thankful for the game and all that ... but Dark Pit seems to be the only let down thus far for me.

It took so long for this pic to come up, I was honestly beginning to think Sakurai was getting salty what with all the leaks and streams today and wouldn't post anything at all.

While most of us on Smashboards especially likely already saw this from the Japanese demo, it's nice to be reminded of it again, and really all the amazing details Sakurai and his team have put into this fantastic looking game. October 3rd can't come any sooner, can it?

I think all these alternate movesets are the reason they added clones in the first place. I can't wait to play Staff Dark Pit and sword ganon (lol maybe not that)

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. But it seems most of the characters in Smash 4 are more for advertising never games. Which does make sense. But basically, no K. Rool and probably no Ridley...
