This thread should be a list essentially of Roy's placement in tourney. Note that you must have used Roy for at least 50% of the tourney in order for your results to be recorded. Last placement will not be recorded as well. When posting results, please fill out as much info as possible so we could have better documentation. Use the format below:

Really wish I could post any kind of results but the 2 local weeklies I attend are both "EVO qualifiers" or in other words follow EVO rules, not allowing any of the 3 latest DLC chars.

Once EVO is done I guess I'll be able to share un this thread.

Well today I placed 17th at a weekly tournament at the Oomba center in the Laguna Hills mall. I felt like I just cracked under pressure because I had a small crowd of like 10 people behind me in my first match and in my fourth I was being too cocky.

Ah also a SoCal player. Wish I could make it to OOMBA but it's about 50-70 minutes from my home. I normally go to FAD and MSM but they won't allow the new DLC chars until after EVO passes. I am stuck with playing Mewtwo with whom I get completely destroyed more often than not.

Oh sweet a SoCal player. There aren't that many Roys here so cool! I'm more based out of San Clamente so LA is kinda a far drive but it'd be awesome to meet up some day!

I used Roy the MAJORITY of a local tourney. The guy who consistently wins first place didn't show up this week though. (he's won every time he's come, cpt falcon player)

For Winner's finals, the console they had us play on was the only one w/o DLC, so I went Shulk. He botched the score, it was actually 3-2 (and he gave me a match pretty much since he spiked me but then knocked me up in his recovery and gave me another air slash, which was used not only to recover, but also kill him at the same time).

Then grand finals I ran a rotation of my pockets. Roy first game, Pit second, Ike third for a 3-0 grand finals. All other games were Roy

I got 4th in a 50-something man Melee tournament going 80% Roy (Marth/Sheik for Falco/Sheik/Marth, Roy for everything else and some Falco/Sheik player conditioning or just Roy when I was up) and 4th in a 40-something man sm4sh tournament going solo Roy recently.

I don't play Roy in PM, just Marth, but I made it out of pools, got through a round, then lost two.

I lost interest in the Roy skype group. The guy who told me it was a bad idea was on board instantly when you started it up, and more flooded in from there, so I don't know if I'd be likable enough to be in to begin with. Plus I rarely boot up skype, and don't have enough time to keep up with the boards, even, when those are higher priority. If it's still alive in a while and I have more time, I may be interested.

I would like to be in the group, but I'd be dead weight if I was, so keep that in mind if you want members to be active ones like other chats.

Would love to see some videos of good Roys in tourney play. Saw a few and was not too impressed. Might be due to the character's limitations but I dunno.

Despite these being release week, they are solid and I have yet to review newer material. If any of these are gonna sell you on Roy, it's the last one. The most legendary Roy in Melee who later became an accomplished Brawl/sm4sh player returning to his roots.

Took third at locals this week

Used roy but all except for the 2 games I won in winner's finals. Lost twice w/ Roy and just said **** it and went mew2 for fun (which he let me win twice Friend of mine wanted to make it seem close to boost my confidence, but bodied me in every game it mattered.) His 3 wins were in 60-90 secs each. Falcon player

Lost loser's finals to a Diddy. Salty on that one since it was 3-2 and the first game he started it w/o changing it to stock. We didn't realize until I ko'd him (and I had 32% at the time; so clear stock lead) and we ended up restarting the game (which then turned into one of my 3 losses)

Nicejob man, if your based out of SoCal How many tourneys do you go to because if your interested There's a place in the Laguna hills Mall that does smash4 weeklies on friday called Oomba. Might be a far drive though : p

Oh, yeah I'm aware of Oomba. I usually just stay local to San Diego since I always busy with priorities and such, but hopefully I will be able to attend more at some point. I typically go to about 3 tournaments a month right now.

I got 4th out of 18 going all Roy. Lost to a Sonic and Villager. Both of which I was capable of beating but I'm still learning how to not get gimped/reverse gimped.

My next large local will be August 22nd.

I am still unsure about going to Paragon. But I'll probably cave in and go.

Along the same lines - any Roy streamers or names to look out/root for? Seem like nobody uses him, but I suppose that would be true for most of the cast.

I got into top 8 at Springs Scene VII, a CO major. I went Roy for 80% of it and Ike for 20% or so.

About 80-100 people in pools, then a top 24 bracket where I got into top 8.

Here's my set on stream before being knocked out:

I felt Ike was somewhat redundant, so I'll be going solo Roy next time to focus fully on fundamentals and improvement as Roy.

I saw my weaknesses in my set and asked around for critique, so I'll be working on them a lot and getting experience on the Sonic MU plus Olimar/Pika/D3 since they gave me trouble.

What I've found:
-Going for too many hard reads, there were unecessary and unsafe ones
-Over-committing, I've always had trouble with it as a concept but I plan to finally grasp it.
-Shielding at the ledge and not adapting there.
-Some cringey taunts.

If you guys see anything else I can do better on, as a player or versus Sonic, let me know. I want to get our boy to the top of CO's PR and 1st at everything I go to.

Most of all, I plan to drop some lbs before next time to look better on stream.

I'm going to a fairly decent sized monthly next week "We Living 3" there's gonna be atleast 2 #1 Ranked Midwest Players there(from their respective States) and possibly another big player from Chicago. I'm going Solo Roy and I should hopefully get top 3. Any advice? (I'll post the results afterwards)

I got tied for 13th in a ~70 man Utah monthly. I had to fight a state top 10 player in my losers bracket who I took to game 3, last stock last hit though. Had I beaten him I'm positive I could have at least beaten his next opponent and gotten at minimum 5th though.

Sonic vs Roy is an interesting matchup, I'll have to practice it more. It was only difficult due to inexperience.
