This past weekend saw a flurry of activity for Super Smash Brothers players. Possibly the biggest small-event ever, the Chokaigi tournament featured a meeting of nations with awards presented by Sakurai. The 8-person invitational included 2v2 winners from Apex 2015 and took place over two days. On Saturday, players participated in a single elimination, best of 1, no items 1v1 tournament. On Sunday, players played in a single elimination, best of 3, items on, 2v2 tournament. Below are the results.

Chokaigi 2015 proved to be interesting from more than just a results standpoint. The event featured a collaboration between NicoNico, Nintendo, and Twitch. D1 and CrimsonBlur, recent hires at Twitch, commented the event on the VGBootcamp stream, which GIMR produced. On the stage was Amsa who added hosting to his Smash resume. Possibly the biggest moment came when Sakurai came on stage to present ZeRo and Mew2King their award - a robe built in a style similar to the Super Smash Brothers Invitational. Watch Sakurai hand off the awards here! This moment must have been very sweet for Mew2King, who was noticeably not invited to the Smash Wii U Invitational at E3 almost 1 year ago.


Also during the weekend were several huge Melee tournaments. The two biggest were Northwest Majors 7 and Super Nebulous 3 - the finals of The Melee Games. Super Nebulous 3 raised over $7,000 through a smash.gg crowdfunding campaign.

You've got Fsann and cyve's characters switched there. Fsann plays Ness and cyve plays Sheik.

Anyway, why doesn't anyone want to talk about EndThePaign? It had a decent turn out, ended on time and was fun. E2c and MVG were there or representative there. Oh well.

Tuned in just in time to see M2K and ZeRo in Doubles for Winners/Losers Finals and Grand Finals.

D1 and Blur's commentary was great, and seeing Double Diddy made my night. Time for more Diddy and Greninja nerfs.

Probably my favorite part was when M2K and ZeRo got the smash ball in the last 30ish seconds, then proceed to run away after Diddy's Final Smash ends, running to win. I knew at that point there was no way they would lose when they started running.

Once Sakurai saw that Diddy won doubles , and singles "AH SHET GOTTA NERF AGAIN" But played it cool tho.

I have dream. That dream is to see a Falcon main win a major tournament. S2J came close at Super Nebulous, not to mention there were 2 other Falcons in Top 8. Good stuff to Lucky though for taking the whole thing.

Idk why but I can never watch replays on twitch. The play button is just always greyed out. :(

You're probably joking, but I'll have you know that Ryo and Big D have won tournaments using her, Nicko almost beat Tyrant in GFs a while back, and someone got 13th with her at Final Round 18. >: (

Anyways, I'm jealous of Zero, M2K, and the others. It must've been cool to meet Sakurai, have him sign their stuff, and chat with him for a little...

I AM joking.... she was the second character that I mained when I got my hands on Smash 4 and I saw some people win 3DS and Wii U tournaments with her indeed.... but one does not simply loses a good joke with a low-tier character :4diddy:

The northwest major's 7 chat during melee was cancer. Nothing but the FGC elitists calling melee a slow-paced party game (the salt was real tho).:happysheep:
