Hey guys. Been a while since I've lurked Smashboards.

I'm looking for some critique, good and bad, on quite possibly the eldest competitive Sheik still in the game today. Been working on my tech skill and quickness lately, but I know there is a lot of other stuff that needs improvement. Obviously my glory days are well over, but I love to compete in everything I do, and this is without a doubt the best game ever made, so here we go:

vs Falco: (match starts at 0:50)

vs Fox: (match starts at 15:45)

vs Marth: (vids are very laggy :( may post another vs Marth)

Vs falco I think you need to be more aware of his weight/percent. You go for a lot of things that can be easily traded or punished. Their are times when you do tilts or aerials that can be CC'd and punished hard rather than doing some spaced/more patient. This includes some of your air game. You really like to trade coming down from full hops. For example youll do a weak backair when they're are 5% and they'll just bair through you since you're at high percent and its a good trade for them.

You have some bad habits recovering. Basically you do all the advance stuff that people first learn such as slap back.( you even do this when the falco is at low percent) You could just get up and then shield. WD on to shield. Other janky weird stuff. Also you make it really easy for falco to recover. You should grab the edge more. I don't believe gimps are the way to go unless its an actually gimp. (basically gimp when you want to and edgeguard when you want to) Also once he's grabed the ledge, you give him too much breathing room so he can just double laser back on. You could run up down smash or full hop over and slap (even if you get hit by a laser early in your jump, if you time it, you can pull out a falling slap that people aren't using ready for)

Generally on Dreamland, you don't engage the Falco enough. You don't approach or make it difficult for falco to approach, you just wait for positioning. You could needle, platform move more. Or you could run up and shield to coax out bad approaches.

Sorry if this is harsh, I really paid no mind to how it came off just the info. Hope this helps! if so I'll write more on the other matches.

there is nothing you can do against jpobs. Tristan is just to amazing at this game. you need like 4 different modes.

I only had time to watch the first match, and your problems seem to be mainly technical. (Which is to be expected when coming out of retirement) I noticed you missed a lot of follow ups, tech chases and edge guards. Spacies are among Sheik's most difficult match ups and maximizing your damage via tech chasing is CRUCIAL.

Another thing I noticed were a lot of whiffed Fairs and that's ok when you want to control space. It's a display that tells your opponent "No, it's not safe for you to be here." But I noticed you were doing them with full hops and not spacing it correctly, so you ate a few Bairs as a result. I recommend replacing those with SHFFL'd Fairs. Especially when spaced with Sheik's awkward back jump. It's extremely hard to punish and it forces a reaction from your opponent. (a potential opening)

I remember seeing you on the FC videos and even had the opportunity to meet you @ Pound 4. You'll be back in no time with some practice man. Good Luck!

Thanks Vanz. Interesting point with the whiffed f-airs and then getting swatted out of the air with that annoying spacies b-air.

Doing constant shffl f-airs remind me a lot of Amsah in his younger years in Europe, heh.

Recently played in a tourney and got ripped apart by a Fox player called SavEdge. He wasn't doing anything extremely flashy; occasionally a shine-grab which I guess is kind of a newer tactic. He also did a ton of shines out of shield, which just about negated all of my approaches. The main things I remember were I just seemed to get picked apart by dash dance spacing, and when being edge guarded it was almost impossible to land on the ledge safely.

it might help against fox to DI the shines toward the stage so u dont go flailing off the stage. the last two shines jwolf got on u on the right side of FD certainly could have been ledge grabs.

also, sup doug

Right on, thanks dude! Maybe my reactions are a bit sluggish to hold the stick that way, or do I actually need to SDI (with good timing) towards the stage at higher percents? I'll test it out.
