in a fight there were 2 characters a serious looking character and a goofy looking character which one would you guys choose? I would choose the cartoony character
The beauty of Smash bros comes from the collide of different universes. Animeish, cartoony, realistic, flat, Wario, just enjoy that such a celebration exists and pick a character you like playing as, regardless of artstyles.

Sometimes I just found him unbearably annoying. That's all.
Fair enough. What I see as charming you see as annoying, that's all. :chuckle:

I also found Pit's naivete and boyishness quite charming as well. He's a fun character for sure, I enjoyed his banter with Palutena and everyone else during the game. Wouldn't have been the same without it.
At risk of using too much French, I also found the repartée very enjoyable. The experience of Uprising was done incredibly well, allowing the gameplay and story to walk hand-in-hand.

I mean he's ok. I warmed up to him for sure. I didn't like him back in Brawl though because I just considered him a Spammy High-Pitched (His VA was the same as Micaiah's in Radiant Dawn) Diaper baby. But that's pry cause all my brother did was spam.

The style of storytelling was excellent. It's like Portal. You don't have to watch all these long cutscenes and it all moves along so smooth and seamlessly. I mean, that shouldn't be done with all games. But for this one it fit perfectly.

They shoulda done that with Metroid: Other M.......

Interesting factoid, I had no idea it was the same voice actor as Micaiah. And I agree that in his Brawl days, he was a bit... "HI-YI-YI-YI-YAH." I found such a difference between Brawl and Uprising Pit, though. That game truly impressed me.

You're right in saying it doesn't fit every game. There are games (for example, Paper Mario series) that use a very text-heavy style, that work just as well. It just created a very unique, involved experience, that was very enjoyable.

Never played Other M, but the general consensus is that it was terrible, so I'll take your word for it.:chuckle:

For sure. Pit was a ton better in Uprising. He's just still a tad annoying sometimes. Micaiah, Lucas, Pit, and Nancy Drew (the mystery game PC series my sisters play) I believe are all the same Voice Actress.

Anyway, I'd like to talk about Captain Rainbow now. What are your guys thoughts on him?

I'm not too fond of region exclusive characters. But for those who've played Captain Rainbow praise the game. I've never played his game so I personally wouldn't care for his inclusion.

Neat.

Captain who-now?
Captain Rainbow is the titular character from a Japan only game. I haven't played it myself. However it features Little Mac and Takamaru. The fat Mac trophy we saw is from that game.

I haven't played it, and am disappointed the fan translation is dormant. However Takamaru and Fat Mac (We got a trophy of him) are both in his game, so I could see him having a chance. He seems like he could be an interesting character.

I see this game going the way of Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland: A really quirky and surprisingly lovable japanese-only title that will silently fall into obscurity. Plus... I kinda only see one Captain on the roster who needs Sakurai to make up a moveset from scratch for. Unlike most newcomers that i see tossed around frequently whose supporters I get upset with for a myriad of reasons, I have a grim respect for C.R. followers when I just don't see him happening because of how small he is. Not because he wouldn't be a good addition to the roster.

exactly, its very effective at creating distance or at least getting your enemy off the platform.
Well I guess I never noticed that, awesome, I'll keep that in mind if it stays there lol.

Funny how I'm still learning crap about Smash even though I've been playing it for 10+ years. Like the Cloaking Device shielding your from damage? Didn't know that until this year courtesy of a friend of mine.

I'm not familiar with Advance Wars, though. I know a little. I don't know how they'd play without guns, are there other weapons in the series besides guns and tanks?
Well Andy, whom you see in my profile pic, is a mechanic. I'd imagine his basic attacks would involve him swinging wrenches around while his specials might have him constructing units from the series to help him out. I suppose it would be a bit like if the Engineer from TF2 was a smash character, maybe.

Meanwhile, Sami is an infantry specialist. Lots of her official art depict her carrying a bazooka, so I imagine she'd go the Snake route with her normals in that she'd use a few explosives mixed with melee attacks. Special-wise, the infantry class in AW specializes in capturing property, which generate money along with providing defensive benefits and restoring hp every turn. Maybe Sami would have a move where she plants a flag that would generate a field that improves her stats while she stands near it?

Just a few ideas I kick around from time to time.

Which Advanced Wars are they from? The original? I own Days of Ruin but have yet to play it. They both seem like interesting ideas though.

Also, your username reminds me of Minami-Ke. How did you come up with it?

Yeah they're from the GBA games and the first DS game. Days of Ruin was solid, but I personally feel the more whimsical/cartoony nature of the originals would fit better for smash characters.

My sister's chem teacher mispronounced our last name as Yogurt and asked her what flavor she was. She responded with plain. When I had the same teacher two years later he asked me if I was plain like my sister and it just kinda stuck. Easy to remember and it's not usually taken so...

Well i would like Captain Rainbow as a skin of Captain Falcon (with new effects and things like that: like his Falcon Punch as a Rainbow punch just for the lolz) but nothing more... leave him like that
Very interesting idea.

Andy is about as likely as everyone believes Dark Pit to be; however, there is a subtle difference, Dark Pit was alluded to. :troll:
Ok, I'm not sure how that goes. Is Dark Pit universally considered likely or no?

Most certainly not, most believe that he will reprise his role as an alternate costume. Another theory is that he is a stage-boss for Palutena's Temple. Andy is very much the same way, aside from the notion that he was not a costume in a prior Smash... and no one suspects him to be a boss character. :bee:

I don't think people see Andy in the same way they see Pitto but well... also who could have a costum of Andy and still make sense?

I suppose that would be possible if he had a different voice-actor, which I presume he would.

In such cases, even if two characters' names and voices differ, as long as they function the same way, I assign them as alternate costumes.

Andy's sort of a pipe dream because Sakurai has the tendency to show new content based on the last or current generation with the exception of retros. Seeing that TTYD form of the Paper Mario stage was a nice change of pace though and I hope there's more like that.

It might be just me, but Olaf > other AW options.

I can even pretend he's Santa kicking ass! :awesome:

(Yes, this is an in-game palette option)

Now that you mention it, I remember people talking about Captain Rainbow when the Fat Mac trophy was used as a PotD. I still know little about him, but from his image, I could see him being a Captain Falcon skin. They're even both captains, how oddly convenient. :denzel:

Shoot if the only Wars stuff we got in this game was an Olaf AT using Blizzard I'd almost be satisfied. Honestly as long as there's an improvement from the copy paste sprites AT from last game I'd be okay. I just think it's a bummer that we've got four (FOUR!) Fire Emblem characters along with stages, an AT and music whereas Wars has nothing to be seen. It doesn't help that it's apparently pretty unpopular in Japan (I heard Days of Ruin wasn't even released there).

Captain Rainbow wouldn't be an alternate costume for Captain Falcon, for a character to be an alternate costume for another character they have to have a close relationship with that character, as stated by Sakurai.

7. Sakurai has also gone on the record with (this is right after what he stated regarding your point): However, even though Lucina shares her physical stats and techniques with Marth, the characteristics of their attacks differ. When two such similar characters function in an even slightly different manner, I give them a separate spot on the roster since that will affect battle records and whatnot. In that sense, you could say she was very lucky to join the fray!
I am aware that you responded to my points, but I cannot help but feel that you did not actually address a good majority of them, particularly on the last one.
I read Sakurai's quotation in full, thank you very much for going to the effort of putting the rest of it on the board. The two do not contradict each other. One merely coming chronologically after the other does not mean that it supercedes the notion of that stated prior, and unlike your extravagantly highlighted 'HOWEVER,' I will not go to the efforts of coming up with a basic grammatical sentence to demonstrate your err because I am aware that it would appear as unnecessarily condescending at it would in fact be.
My statement was showcasing Sakurai's outright assertion that a character can in fact have a different name and still be an alternate costume, which indicates quite heavily that he has in fact already utilized this technique in the game (I would imagine for the same two characters you state had move alterations, Dr Mario and Dark Pit), and that, for this example, once he then decided to make Lucina's moves have different properties, he gave her a different slot (or potentially, gave her a different slot and then gave her altered move set properties to justify her separate slot, whereas other alternate costumes with the name changes he states he is fine with, do not have alternate slots).
Without getting too heavily into Dr Mario or Dark Pit, I would claim that you arrived at your justification for their inclusion as separate characters backward. Instead the quotation proves that they are in fact alternate costumes, which Sakurai has stated he is doing in THIS game, where previous precedents do not all apply (villager being the prime example, though let me count thy ways elsewhere). In Melee he added Dr Mario for his music, and as a suggested joke and filler character to only later be cut. It is only by your personal bias that you assume Dr Mario could only return as a full out clone rather than as an alternate character costume when Sakurai has stated clearly his lessened interest in clones and his willingness to include characters with different names as alternate character skins without them 'taking up slots.'

1 (2). Kid Icarus was featured as a front-runner series in Smash 4 whilst Pit was one of the first revealed characters for Super Smash Brothers Brawl, he was always featured prominently within Smash, so I do not find it odd that the series might receive an additional character, least of all a clone. 28 seconds into the video is where I am alluding to, it is treated as one of the main series for the most part.
This seems incredibly circumstantial, particularly from the same person who (if I am remembering correctly) finds another DK representative to be unlikely, despite a plethora of evidence, as well as the support of which you bring up here, but with actual justification to the argument that DK does not just appear to be a frontrunner of the series, and is not just marketed as it for this game, he has actually been in it since the beginning.
You say you do not find it strange Kid Icarus would receive an additional character, and I concede. Clap your hands together and welcome Goddess Palutena. It is TWO representatives that I would find strange to add. He may add Pit to some more of the promo shots, that is dandy, but I'm not sure where this equates to it being on the exact level of the actual series which have been in it since the beginning, or more importantly, the ones who have an exceedingly large number of games, decades of history, and an extraordinary cast of vibrant characters who are plausible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUyoUfy5hGs
3. So if Dark Pit was a female, he would be considered more likely? Dixie Kong confirmed. They have also attempted to add more anime swordsmen... so the point is moot. :troll:
We have always gotten a bunch of anime swordsmen, well, since melee. The difference here is that we have actually gotten a public outcry for female representation. Sure, we get a public outcry for many things, but this is something that Sakurai has actually given quite notice to. It could be argued it is just by coincidence that so many females are in the game this go around, but I prefer to look at the facts. In the past, the select screen showcased how many females? Peach, Zelda, and Samus.
Now, who are playable options as females? Peach, Zelda, Sheik, Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Robin, Lucina, and all Mii Fighters. I might have even missed one.
Obviously, the only moot point here is that being a human female has been proven to be of somewhat importance this game; perhaps it did not allow any character a free pass into the game, and it should not have, but our female representation is at an actual slice of pie in the circle. This makes it appeal to more consumers, which is stated, of course, to be what Sakurai wants.

4. Lucina does not have Roy's move-set, which is actually Marth's move-set in the first place. People were clamoring for Roy or "teh phyre," not his play-style, which we already had via Marth and Lucina does not offer what Roy offered by extension either. Their similarities appear to end at the notion that they are both clones of Marth with different sword mechanics.
I am not a fan of Roy, so I will not say I can fully speak on this point. That said, Lucina is the full blade as power, versus Marth's tip, which is what I had believed Roy was to Marth as the primary different. The fire, like his hair, is a visual difference, of course- but given this game being thirteen years the successor to Melee, I'm sure the fanboys of 2001 have grown up enough to get over a visual cue of fire, if that is really all they wanted.

5. If one of them was a clone, perhaps, in the same vein as Awakening... another successful 3DS title (one game) that warranted "two characters in one outing." I am going to need a source on the assertion in parenthesis. Regardless, I doubt that an additional "bonus" character (as people refer to Lucina) is enough to attenuate his credibility by way of showing his bias. It is his game, Sakurai bias is already prevalent and Kid Icarus is not his own series akin to Kirby, he merely revived it and he has already given it preferential treatment through items, stages, status, and whatnot.
Awakening may have been successful, absolutely, but Fire Emblem as a whole is what warranted the additional characters. It is not a single game, it is an entire franchise with over a dozen games to its name. Many other games were quite successful as well, too many to count in fact.
As you stated, he has given Kid Icarus a few more items, stages, and whatnot than other franchises- this could just as easily be read as the entirety of the preferential treatment he would give it.
Or if not, why stop there, why not make the assertion that Kid Icarus will join the ranks of other series and have four or five characters representing the series? It sounds all the more absurd because it draws on the exact same points I have stated in this response to you. Do you think Kid Icarus would get four or five representatives? If so, why, and if not, why not?

Is it just me, or could this be hinting at the Ice Climbers?

No. If anything it shows they were replaced by the Villager Climbers. Armed with pickaxes instead.

But actually if you straw grasp that way it kind of does resemble one of their taunts from Brawl...
