Smash City is a new tournament series that will be the standard for tournaments in Sydney for the foreseeable future.

This Tournament Series will mainly focus on Smash for WiiU/3DS, Melee and Project M throughout 2015.
The goal for the rest of the year is to have at least the three tournaments before the end of the year (early Oct, mid Nov, late Dec), which we will be trying some new things, testing formats and ironing out the kinks as we prepare for the release of Smash for WiiU.

Smash City 2
Date: 23rd Nov 2014
Time: 10am – 8pm
Place:
Manhattan Super Bowl Bowling Centre,
549 Gardeners Road Mascot
Click here to bring up the address on Google Maps
There is Parking at the venue
Prices:
$5 venue fee
$12 lunch
$5 per event
NOTE: Regarding Lunches
It is not required for you to purchase lunch from the venue, however no food other than food purchased from the venue is allowed to be consumed on premises (this includes packed lunches from home). You are free to leave the venue to get lunch and come back as long as you return after eating. Also keep in mind that we will not delay the tournament to accommodate this which means you will have needed to leave, eat then return within about 30min from the time we are called down to lunch.

NOTE: Regarding Pricing
We are working toward getting live streaming up for our events as well as other things that improve the experience for the Sydney Smash community. The big problem with live streaming is that reliable internet isn't cheap and therefore to support a live stream we will need to increase the entry fee by a few dollars to cover the costs. Smash City 2 will not have live streaming so prices for the November tournament wont change. The goal though is to have internet and a live stream ready for December. It is at this time the venue fee will likely be increased to $8. If in the case attendance means that we receive more money than what is required to pay for that months internet the extra money will be put into a fund which will be used to cover months when we do not reach enough attendance or for other parts of the community. These include (but not limited to) equipment to improve tournaments such as power boards, better headsets for stream commentators, etc or prizes at Sydney Major events such bot bonuses, medals/trophies, etc.
In an effort to be completely open with the community on where this money is going I will likely be putting out a statement (probably every quarter) on where your money is being spent.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this move please don't hesitate to post about it.

Rulesets are as follows, however these may change in the future

Tournament rules
  • The TO reserves the right to change this ruleset up until the day of the tournament.
  • The tournament organizer has the right to save/record any tournament match if possible and has the right to upload said match.
  • Any acts of forfeiting, match fixing, pot splitting and/or bracket manipulation are subject to punishment from the TO.
  • No coaching during a match. Consulting someone between matches is allowed as long as it doesn’t hold up the next match. Players who violate this rule will receive a warning (BOTH the player AND the person coaching the player) on the first attempt. Players who violate this rule after a warning will be disqualified from the event and a possible ejection from the venue.
  • In the event that the game crashes or the TV/WiiU/Wii/GC loses power in the middle of a match, that match will be restarted from the beginning with the same characters and stage. If a player uses a known glitch to intentionally crash the game or otherwise make it unfinishable, that player may be forced to forfeit the match or be DQed at the TO’s discretion.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in forfeiture of the match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
  • You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility (including battery issues with a Nintendo 3DS/Gampad/WiiU Pro Controller/Wii Remote), so bring an extra controller/batteries/powercord if possible and always check to make sure you’re using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. Both parties need to agree if a match is to be paused or restarted because of these problems.
  • Players are to attend their matches at the designated times they are called. If you are late to a match, the following rules will be applied based on the amount of time:
    • If you are 5 minutes late: Results in a match loss
    • If you are 10 minutes late: Results in a set loss
These times will be strictly enforced to make sure that each player will enjoy the full event on a timely manner.
A final Smash 3DS ruleset for Smash City 2 will be written up and posted here about a week before the tournament which will cover proper procedures, stages, stock/time and tournament format.
But for now the following is a good indication of what we are currently looking at for Smash City 2:

all entrants require their own 3DS and a copy of Smash 3DS
Any 3DS can be utilized including the New 3DS
2 or 3 stock ( 6 or 8 min respectively)
Best of 3 sets (finals Bo5)
Custom moves allowed and announced
equipment banned
3 Starter stages: battlefield, yoshi island (brawl), default FD or Omega Ferox (TBD)
counterpicks: TBD (expect it to be fairly open for the first couple of tournaments)
A Ban of FD means a ban of FD and all Omega stages
A choice of FD means a choice of any FD or Omega stage except balloon fight, pictochat 2 and pac-maze.

Since this is a new game expect the ruleset to change often over the next few months as we test things out to find what works and what doesn't. Some thing that will make this process a lot quicker is your feedback, letting us know what stages/custom moves you choose, why you like/dont like a stage/custom move and saving replays of anything that could be evidence of a ban or supports your argument for/against something will help us a lot and is much appreciated.
General Rules
  • Items OFF and set to NONE
  • All chain grabs and infinites are legal
  • Playing as Master Hand is banned
  • No excessive stalling (this includes abusing Jiggs’ Rising Pound and Peach's Wall Bomber)
  • Glitches such as Ice Climbers’s Freeze Glitch and Mewtwo’s Soul Stunner are banned.
  • Pause option is disabled in the game menu. If left on, accidental pausing during a match, unless okayed by the other player, will result in the loss of one stock for the pauser.
  • Quitting out of a match before it is over will result in a loss for the quitter.
  • If time runs outs, the tie is determined by most stocks, and then if still tied, by percentage. If percentage is tied, a 1 stock, 3 minute match is played with same characters and stage.
  • If a match ends with both players dying at the same time resulting in Sudden Death, a 1 stock, 3 minute match is played with same characters and stage.
  • If the match goes to sudden death due to a suicide move (Ganon’s side-B, Kirby swallow or throws, holding someone in a grab on a platform as it moves out of the boundaries, etc.), the one who initiated the move wins.
  • Custom controls are allowed, but controllers modified to enhance performance are not. No turbo buttons, etc. However, removing the springs from shoulder buttons or replacing a thumbstick with a different thumbstick are ok.
  • Player’s Choice Clause: You may play by a rule outside of this ruleset if your opponent agrees to it as long as it does not deliberately delay the tournament process.
  • *Timic Clause: Any stage may be played on if both parties agree

General Rules
  • Items OFF and set to NONE
  • All chain grabs and infinites are legal
  • Meta Knight’s infinite dimensional cape tactic is banned.
  • There is a 35 Ledge Grab Limit for all characters. If a game goes to time and one player goes over the Ledge Grab Limit for their character, they will automatically lose the game. If both players exceed their Ledge Grab Limit, then this rule is ignored.
  • The act of stalling is banned: stalling is intentionally making the game unplayable: Such as becoming invisible, continuing infinites, chain grabs, or uninterrupted moves past 300%, and reaching a position that your opponent can never reach you.
  • No scrooging (player may travel under the stage only once from the ledge)
  • “Traveling under the stage once from the ledge” is defined as dropping off the ledge on one side of the stage and reaching the height of the original ledge on the other side of the stage.
  • When one of the players is attacked by the other and takes damage, the “no scrooging” rule does not apply.
  • The moving platform on Smashville or any platform that is not the main stage (Battlefield platforms, Castle Siege platforms, etc.) are considered to be equivalent to a ledge, i.e. if a player starts from the moving platform on one side of the stage and travels beneath the stage to the ledge/platform on the opposite side of the stage, the player may not travel beneath the stage back to the ledge/moving platform on the opposite side before until he lands back on the platform.
  • If a player is found to be performing the act of scrooging by a tournament organizer (by his/her discretion), the player will forfeit that match.
  • Pause option is disabled in the game menu. If left on, accidental pausing during a match, unless okayed by the other player, will result in the loss of one stock for the pauser.
  • Quitting out of a match before it is over will result in a loss for the quitter.
  • If time runs outs and the Ledge Grab Limit does not declare one player the winner, the tie is determined by most stocks, and then if still tied, by percentage. If percentage is tied, a 1 stock, 3 minute match is played with same characters and stage.
  • If a match ends with both players dying at the same time resulting in Sudden Death, a 1 stock, 3 minute match is played with same characters and stage.
  • For a tie-breaker match, a Ledge Grab Limit of 15 is used for all characters.
  • If the match goes to sudden death due to a suicide move (Ganon’s side-B, Bowser's side-B, holding someone in a grab on a platform as it moves out of the boundaries, etc.), the one who initiated the move wins.
  • Custom controls are allowed, but controllers modified to enhance performance are not. No turbo buttons, etc. However, removing the springs from shoulder buttons or replacing a thumbstick with a different thumbstick are ok.
