Oh my god! You don't know how many times I've said that! I've desperately wanted Lark from PW64 as a playable character in Smash 4! Yet all we get is a stage. It really bothered me how Sakurai just suddenly up and made a stage for the series for Smash 4 and he doesn't even reference Pilot Wings 64 in Smash in any way, not even a playable character, for goodness sake! The songs are superb though! Hey, Azure, I understand if it's too late, but do you mind if I add you to the support list? At least we can hope for DLC, right?
"all we get is a stage"

I think its amazing it got a stage tbh, I mean it could have got nothing like before and look at villager- having "just a stage" isn't too bad in the long run.

Pilotwings was actually the first stage in 3D in which everything felt three dimensional despite the usage of sprites. Though Star Fox was considered stage two in which everything looked three dimensional with the polygonal style from the Super FX chip. So Star Fox literally blew the former out of the water in terms of popularity and sales thanks to the Super FX graphics.
Sure, feel free to add me, I could've sworn I asked before.
Hey guys, I had an idea for my suggestion of having Lark as a playable character and Kiwi as an alt. skin for Lark. What if their other pallet swaps can be different colorations of their pilot outfits and the others of them in their civilian outfits? (By civilian, I mean, well, look at my avatar. That's actually Lark in his civilian (normal) clothing. Also, Kiwi wears a cute yellow dress.) Also, can someone ask Nintendo if they still even own the rights to the characters of Pilot Wings 64? (Lark, Kiwi, Goose, Ibis, Hawk, and Robin/Hooter)

Sure that's pretty possible, considering that's where Lark first notably appeared in.
Shulk does have a pretty similar alt. color set.
Oh, thanks! Say, does anyone here have any connection to Nintendo? I'd really like to know whether or not the cast of Pilot Wings 64 is still even owned by them and if they ever plan to do anything with them in the future. I still think it was a missed opportunity to not have them in Pilot Wings Resort. I mean not even a cameo, or anything! I even doubt ANY of them have trophies in the Wii U version of Smash 4. It just seems strange to me how Sakurai can reference two games in the series all in one stage, and the intervening game has little to no big references at all. I hoped for at least an island from PW 64 to show up, but even that wasn't enough.

I really don't see why they wouldn't still be owned by Nintendo.

Well, maybe I'll just send them a letter just in case. It just seems odd to me how Nintendo hasn't done a thing with them since 1996. Also, I feel like if Nintendo DOES still own the rights to the cast of Pilot Wings 64, at least that means Sakurai can still keep them in mind for Smash Bros.

Oh, yeah. Guys, before I forget, I made a headcanon character listing for the cast of Pilot Wings 64. Tell me what you think:

Goose (Always keeps his cool, aloof and bored at times, sticks by friends, and will always help out, Can get easily annoyed at times, but overall nice guy, looked up to as an older brother figure by Lark)

Hawk (Buff, very strict and stoic, but does care for others, bit of a bodybuilder)

Kiwi (adorable, very cheerful, happy-go-lucky attitude, a bit naive, but still sweet and innocent)

Lark (Eager, Head-strong at times, faces a challenge with a smile, open, cheerful nature, very active.)

Robin (very calm and relaxed, sometimes nice, but has a bit of a no-nonsense personality) (known as Hooter in Japan. I've personally started calling her by her original name, Hooter, due to SSB4 confirming Robin from Fire Emblem: Awakening as a playable character.),

Ibis. (Very eager to cheer others on, kind and reliable, looked up to as an older sister by Lark and Kiwi, overall has a warm demeanor. A little klutzy at times.)

Have you seen the list of dead, missing, unused, and forgotten characters from Nintendo owned series? It really isn't that odd when one vanishes and you never know when they will resurface. Pilotwings Resort was by that one Japanese Director reviving the games made by the director tasked to make western-centric games who made punch out/pilotwings/firebirds/startropics etc. It is very possible that is why they didn't return as well as Nintendo pushing Miis/Wuhu Island. I do think them not having a cameo or reference is more than odd even in the stage in smash... Did japan not get Pilotwings 64 or something?

Believe it or not, Japan actually DID get PW 64. That's also why I'm wondering what happened. Personally, I think PW 64 had the most "personality" in the series, so to see that game get literally NO representation at all is really strange to me.

The headcanon seems pretty close enough to I've imagined several characters having such personalities. From Lark's face alone, I knew that he would be pretty headstrong. Goose trying to keep his cool was expected since he gave me that vibe. Kiwi's qualities matches her pretty well. Hawk does seem like that sort of musclehead and Hooter (LOL at that name) being a "no-nonsense" woman was my first though's when looking at her English name. Ibis's name alone let's me know that she would be the silly individual while at the same time being a reliable ally. Overall, this headcanon sounds likes something that Nintendo should revisit in the future.

As for why Nintendo is ignoring Pilotwings 64, it did have some pretty mixed reviews and sold less than phenomenal compared to the first game from what I've seen. Common complaints included the soundtrack (which people compared to porn groove and lounge music), lack of innovation compared to the first game, and just feeling more like a graphic showcase that doesn't have that fun Nintendo quality (Again, these were from the more harsher reviews in the past). Perhaps that's why they decided to go all out with Pilotwings Resort and shoehorned the Miis as the protagonists. (Which is a shame since I liked 64 even more than that game)

Thanks for the comment! So, that's what happened to PW 64. Well, I hope Nintendo can do at least SOMETHING with the cast sometime soon.

If you don't mind my asking, who do you think could voice the cast of Pilot Wings 64? I personally would say for Lark, Stephanie Nadolny (the voice actress of Kid Goku from Dragon Ball from 1999-2010) or Coleen O'Shaugnessy (voice of Jazz Fenton from Danny Phantom and Sora on Digimon) and for Kiwi, either Janice Kawaye (voice of Yuzu Kurosaki from Bleach/Ami from Hi Hi Puffy AmyYumi/XJ-9 "Jenny" Wakeman from My Life as a Teenage Robot) or Stephanie Sheh (voice of Yui Hirasawa from K-ON! and Orihime Inoue from Bleach.) Anyone you can think of for voices?

It might be because maybe PW 64 might have had a different director or something so when making resort they might have viewed it as lesser than the original since the revivals whole point was to revive games made by that specific director.

Was pretty busy with a few paintings and research assignments, so here's my input for the voices. For Lark, I'd say Coleen O'Shaugnessy is easily the best choice since her voice is rather timeless. Kiwi's voice actor should be Janice Kawaye since she has that teenage voice to match her cute appearance.

Now for the others, Hawk can have Christopher Sabat (Vegeta and Kuwabara) since he has that tough guy act going on. Goose can be Greg Ayres (The current voice of Freiza) and since he's one of the few actors to do a great "mysterious and cool" impressing in their career. Ibis can be Monical Rial (Hungary from Hetalia and Simca from Air Gear) since she always get the right tone for a mature woman. Lastly, Hooter's voice would be fitting for another great actress Megan Hollingshead (Rangiku Matsumoto and Eureka 7's Hilda).

Wow! Nice suggestions! I have to say, Lark being voiced by O'Shaugnessy sounds like a good choice! I heard portraying Tails in Sonic Boom today, and I have to say, she sounds like how I've always imagined Lark to sound like: sounding like a pre-teen/teenager without sounding too old/too young, but having that right amount of "innocence" in her voice that she could give Lark. Janice Kawaye as Kiwi actually does sound like a great idea, too! I absolutely adore her's and Stephanie Sheh's work, but I feel like Sheh might be a little "too young-sounding" for her. Kawaye just seems to have the right amount of "teenager" in her voice that can make Kiwi sound young and sweet, but not make it too "obvious", if that makes sense. Greg Ayres as Goose wouldn't be too bad either. I suppose, personally, for Goose, I always imagined someone like Roger Craig Smith portraying him. Monica Rial as Ibis is a really interesting notion! I remember she was the voice of Bulma in Dragon Ball Z Kai and she pulled it off really well! I can imagine her doing the same for Ibis, but making her sound more sweeter. Chris Sabat as Hawk seems like the right actor for him. I'd like to see that happen, actually. As for Hooter, Megan Hollingshead would sound really good, but I would hope she doesn't sound too "sexy", but at least gives a balance to her voice. Remind me, didn't Hollingshead voice Nurse Joy in the first few seasons of Pokemon and Trixie in Ultimate Muscle?

Personally I prefer the air original pilot from the SNES game, I feel like he's more iconic

Either way, I'd like to make a moveset for this guy, for now just specials

  • Neutral- Boost Ring: Although not necessarily used for in the games, this move utilizes one of those rings made of floating orbs. When used Pilot places a floating ring in front of him which can be passed to give Pilot an instant momentum boost. However, opponents can also go through this ring as well, which can be used to their advantage. But if the player places it just right it could be used as a trap to speed an opponent offstage.
ugh i hit post replay on accident, so ill add more later

I think Lark (or Nester) would be an awesome addition as DLC to be honest, or even the next installment. Don't wanna overwork Sakurai, though.

Thank you! Someone agrees! I just want to ask Sakurai if he could keep the cast of PW 64 in mind for the next Smash game. (Especially Lark!:p) I wonder if Nintendo is doing anything with those characters, or if they've dropped the rights to them. I mean, they don't even have a cameo in Pilot Wings Resort, for corn's sake!

Yeah, considering their history with references to older characters, it's pretty odd.

I think if any Pilotwings character were to have an Up Special, it can't really be the Hover Pack since that is already an item. That is, unless it's in a different style and functions much differently compared to the item.

Hey guys, I just had a cool idea! In the Boxing Ring stage, you know how all characters get a little nickname on the jumbotron in the background? Well, what if Lark's nickname was..."High-Flying Hero"? And Kiwi (who I had the idea to be an alt. of Lark) can be the "High-Flying Heroine"? So what do you all think? Is it good? Do any of you have some ideas for them? (Or the rest of the cast?)

Say guys, what do you think Palutena's Guidance would be like if it was used on Lark? (or Kiwi as an alt.? or any of the Pilot Wings characters?)

Some characters have similar moves to items (Or some items have similar moves to certainc haracters) but the items tend to be faster or stronger in some ways.

Here's what I have so far for Lark's Plautena Guidance:

Pit: "Whoooooooah! Is that the famous Nintendo Power character Nester that I'm looking at?"

Palutena: "No Pit, this is Lark. Unlike Nester, Lark is a master at aviating in the Pilotwings Saga.

Pit: "So you mean, he isn't Nester? Are you sure that you aren't pulling my leg, Lady Palutena?"

Palutena: "I am the Goddess of Light, I would never lie to you Pit. Even if you were in the face of danger?"

Pit: "Well, you do have a point there, Lady Palutena. Is there anything that I need to know about this Lark guy?"

Palutena: "He is a master of the skies with many devices at his disposal like the Rocket Belt, Hang Glider, Gyrocopter, and other flight devices. He can even use himself as a human cannonball for the sake of taking you at full force."

Pit: "That sounds rather crazy, it's like the time of guy who would be willing to put himself in danger in the skies. Oh wait, that sounds a little toooo familiar."

Palutena: "Right Pit, that means that the two of you are very similar. Except that he's a more experienced veteran when it comes to sky combat, be wary of his sky tricks when facing him off the ground.

Hey guys, I'm back! I know support for a Pilot Wings character has sort of died down since the release of Smash 4 for 3DS and Wii U, so I was hoping I can bring back some support!

@ Smashkirby: Yes, definitely i've always supported the pilot for a smasher :b:
Sure that's pretty possible, considering that's where Lark first notably appeared in.
Shulk does have a pretty similar alt. color set.
Hey guys! Nintendo is taking a poll on who we want to see as Smash 4 DLC!!! Quick! Maybe we can see Pilot Wings take flight as DLC after all! I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, but it would be GREATLY appreciated! We've all thought this series wouldn't get any representation past a stage and some trophies, but look now! This is probably our ONLY chance, guys! We have GOT to make this happen, all right?

Hey guys! Nintendo is taking a poll on who we want to see as Smash 4 DLC!!! Quick! Maybe we can see Pilot Wings take flight as DLC after all! Already voted for him with my broken IPod, so we're good.

BTW Azure, you DID vote for Lark, didn't you? Considering the whole "broken Ipod thing, I can't exactly tell if you were being sarcastic or not.
Not sarcasm, my IPod could actually still work despite the broken screen. I was actually voting using multiple devices since I assume that you couldn't use the same one more than once.

Oh, okay. Also remember to spread the word to other Pilot Wings supporters on this thread. Like I said earlier, considering that most of us (including me, admittedly) had given up on a playable Pilot Wings character ever since Smash 4 was released, I personally think this is the ultimate (and possibly, final) time for us to spread our wings and fly! We need to really put in the effort of letting Nintendo know this is no joke and that we want someone in the series to playable, especially now that NINTENDO themselves are taking actual requests now, we need to make our voices heard. If there was ever a time to let them (Nintendo) know we want a playable character from Pilot Wings (preferably PW 64) as a playable character, considering they've given us our (possibly) ONLY chance, NOW IS THAT TIME. (In my personal opinion, preferably Lark. I get the striking feeling either he or even Goose would have the greatest chance of being a playable character in Super Smash Bros.)

Let's spread our wings and take flight, High-Flying Heroes! If this Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot doesn't get a character from Pilot Wings in Smash, nothing will!
