Niconico Tokaigi 2016 Feat. Ranai, Komorikiri, Nairo, Abadango, and More!

The Umebura Niconico Qualifiers were the largest Smash 4 event to ever take place in Japan. The Sumabato Niconico Qualifiers were incredibly stacked. Now, Niconico Tokaigi will be taking the best players from these qualifiers and pitting them against international guests in an ultimate extravaganza this Saturday!

Here is a look at the Japanese players set to compete at the event:

Ranai :4villager: Didn't drop a game at the Umebura Qualifiers. Took 3rd place at Genesis 3.

Choco :4zss: Lost in R2 (first set played due to seeding) against Abadango at the Umebura Qualifiers and came up all the way through Losers, finishing 2nd and beating the likes of Sigma, Brood, 9B, Komorikiri, and Shu in the process.

Shu :4sheik: Qualified by making Winner's Finals (finished 3rd) at the Umebura Qualifiers, beating Komorikiri and 9B.

SH :4fox: Winner of the Sumabato Qualifiers, beating Nietono in Winner's Semifinals and Abadango in Winner's Finals and Grand Finals.

Abadango :4metaknight: Placed 7th at the Umebura Qualifiers, losing to 9B and Komorikiri. Qualified by making Winner's Finals and getting 2nd at the Sumabato Qualifiers, beating Rain and Komorikiri.

Komorikiri :4cloud:/:4sonic: Placed 4th at the Umebura Qualifiers, losing to Shu and Choco. At the Sumabato Qualifiers, he lost in Winner's Semifinals to Abadango and was losing the match as Sonic against Edge in Loser's Quarterfinals but then brought out his Cloud and won. He repeated the same process against Rain in Loser's Semifinals, qualifying him at 3rd place.

Alongside these players, there will be international guests! Nairo has been confirmed for the event, and originally Dabuz was set to go alongside him but was unable to attend. Nairo suggested ZeRo was potentially attending, but his being at PAX Arena makes this unlikely, and there is no confirmation if another international guest or Japanese player will be taking this open slot.

The stream is set to take place on Saturday at 5:30 PM Pacific Time. The stream will be on Niconico, so for those not familiar with the platform or lacking an account, it is recommended to visit the site early and learn its layout. The official stream link can be found here. A special thank you to Djent Djent , @juddy96, and @Jucchan for their help with this article. Excited to see some of Japan's finest compete? Thanks for the Japan coverage as usual <3

If there are only 7 players, the bracket will be uneven. I suspect Nairo will get the R1 Bye 1) because of past results, and 2) to prevent one qualifier winner from being favored over the other. But that is just a guess.

This probably won't happen, but: it occured to me that the most logical thing to do might be to open the final spot to the 4th place finishers who just barely missed qualifying. This is because there is only one who is not in attendance already (Komo finished 4th, then 3rd): Rain. Rain is currently ranked #2 on eSR's global rankings, and he did do quite well at the 2nd qualifier event. Extending an invite to him would make for a more entertaining solution than just leaving one spot in the bracket empty. But again, I doubt it will happen, as otherwise he'd probably be listed here already.

Is this the same event as the one the japanese smash twitter and sakurai tweeted about? Both Bayonetta and Corrin is if so playable. Also, does that require something more then just logging in to the site like a premium account?

If someone could get the vods of :4bayonetta: and :4corrin: gameplay at the event it would be super appreciated.

This lineup looks very exciting!

So much English spam in the comments during the stream that I feel bad for the Japanese viewers. :/

I'm excited to see Kamui/Corrin and Bayonetta though.

YOOOO SAKURAI ON STREAM

Edit: Umbra Clock Tower has no stage hazards, will most likely be legal.

Edit 2: THEY'RE ****ING OUT 2/4

Has anyone seen the first game between Nairo and Komorikiri? He first had a stylish 0 to death and then took his second stock under 20 secs. Nairo, you monster!
