IMPORTANT UPDATE!

For Smash players, we are offering a lowered registration fee of $20 instead of the current $45 and $60 at the door. This is to help promote the Smash scene at Texas Showdown. The reduced fee is only for players who are entering Melee and/or Smash 4. If are entering Smash 4/Melee and any of the other games on the tournament list, you will have to pay the full price registration fee.

There will be a $250 pot bonus for Melee if the total tournament entries reach 50 or more.

For Smash 4, we are offering a $50 pot bonus per 10 players who enter, max $500. This means if 100 players enter, we will throw in a $500 pot bonus. If not, we'll give out $50 per 10 players. $100 for 20, $150 for 30, etc.

You can either register online at www.txshowdown.com, at Insomnia Video Game Culture, or at the door of the event on May 8.

The reason for the discount is us admitting that we did a poor job of advertising our event to the Smash community. We had a group in place to handle that, but that partnership fell through and we should have done a better job of picking people to do it. With the event being a few weeks away, it will probably be hard for out of town/state players to make it, but in case that are able to, we wanted to try and make the event more appealing. Likewise, we asked our local scene what they would like to see happen, and we tried our best to accommodate with these changes. We hope the smash community will give Texas Showdown a chance and come out to our event.

From my understanding, the ruleset is TGC rules but slightly modified. No customs.

Only ruleset I saw on site:

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Wii U)

Play format is 1 vs. 1, 3 life stock.
One match is best of three games.
Finals are best of five games.
Custom rules are not allowed.

I assume this means no custom moves. I would say go by TGC rules, but whoever is running it needs to be familiar with the ruleset...

I hope this is addressed, so people can plan accordingly.

It should mirror the settings for the Insomnia tournament this weekend.

RULES: 3 stocks // 7 minutes // Items OFF, Customs OFF,
Best 2/3 games

Starters:
Final Destination
Battlefield
Smashville

Counter Picks:
Castle Siege
Delfino Plaza
Duck Hunt
Halberd
Kongo Jungle 64
Lylat Cruise
Town and City
Omega Stages*

* Treated as Final Destination in banning phase. If Final Destination is banned, Omegas are banned and vice versa

First stage can be random select or stage striked from the starters.

Loser picks stage, Winner may change character, then Loser selects character.

Dave's Stupid Rule: You cannot counterpick with a stage you have previously won on in a set.

Stage Strikes: Winner may strike 1 stage before the loser selects a stage if they choose.

Yeah advertising for Smash 4 wasn't too great. I only really found out about through here and that's cause I just made my account and hardly get on, but either way thanks for the discount, my friends and I were a bit confused as to why it charged us $30. We're players from Deep South Texas and we're coming from McAllen, hopefully we can take home the win.
