I was running streams for "The Big N" Smash tournaments 2 years ago and we used LCDs for all those events too. Everyone there said they couldn't feel the lag; including Mew2King and JTails.

I want to know what people thought of the LCD setup. From what I gathered at the venue, no one was complaining about "lag"; the complaints were about the widescreen hack since the blast-zones are smaller... but we've been playing on a widescreen CRT since week 1, so that really isn't an issue.

As far as lag goes, the LCD setup was just as good as any CRT. The widescreen stuff has always felt uncomfortable and annoying to me, LCD or CRT. I don't think it's a major hindrance to the gameplay, though, but it's definitely not desirable.

I had a lot of comments on how nice the stream was and people were asking about geting their own LCDs. It was a good test and I think it proves we can do it reliably in the future. What was the make/model of the one we were using?

Next Break Steak Bi-Weekly is on May 2! I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the last one, I wont be able to make it to this one either.... Vestboy_Myst and HackerMike got the reigns again; so everything should be run well.

UPDATE: it looks like most of Rutgers Maylay's usuals will not be in attendance and there will not be a stream this week, sorry guys
I'll try my best to get there still but probably going to be slightly late. Hackermike will be setting up and running the tournament . Good luck to those going and hope to see everyone back there in 2 weeks

I apologize for the lack of stream tonight... the weather has taken out the internet. The cable techs are here trying to fix it, but it doesnt look like there will be a live stream in time. 8otB holds a dear place in my heart. It was the first place that I went to for tournaments. It was my literal stomping ground. I got my ass beat for a good year and a half before I started seeing actual progress. It was where players like KDZ, Ryder, Marlin Pie, Darth Arma, (To name a few) That would beat me on a regualr basis. This week makes it 4 years since I started competing in tournaments. It's been one crazy ride. I don't think I would be anywhere that I am (Or atleast think I am today) If it was not for that place. That place helped create a lot of incredible friendships and allowed me to be part of something really incredible. I am greaful and I owe a debt greater than anything I could give.
TL;DR
I am donating my GC Console, my copy of Melee and my controller, and a CRT that I own to 8oTB in order to be utilized for the smash tournaments held.
I am also adding $50 to go toward the tournament however you all see fit. Could be a pot bonus? I dunno I don't really care.

No typical big names but man, this event felt like the most stacked and brutal biweekly yet.
I had a lot of fun, I'm bummed I lost, I'm gonna be after the guys that beat me next time.

I know a lot of people just graduated from Rutgers this past week and because of it, were unable to come to last week's tournament... but I'm hoping in the future, these players will be willing to take the extended trip to support these tournaments!

Hey guys, this next tournament we are gonna have an "optional venue fee". What does this mean? It means that if you don't want to pay the venue fee, you don't have to! If the reason why you come to the Break tournaments instead of others is because we don't charge a venue fee and it's cheaper for you; that's fine, nothing will change. However, if you truly want to help us expand and support the community, the willingness to pay the venue will help us out greatly.
If you go to tournaments, you know that they all have venue fees; in addition to the $10 to pay to enter the tournament, there is an extra fee that the "house" keeps in order to defer costs of the venue and equipment. The Break Weekly is the longest running tournament series in America, running for almost 20 years now; and we have NEVER charged a mandatory venue fee... this is the reason we are so reliant on players themselves to bring setups to play on. We literally can't afford the equipment costs, because we make no money running these events. (In fact, we lose money)
Think about it, with the amount of people who come to these tournaments, if everyone paid a venue fee, after just ONE week of collecting a venue fee, we would be able to purchase an entire extra setup! That would be a lag-less LCD monitor, a console, and a copy of the game. Basically, replicate the setup I bring from home for the live stream. After just a few events, we could be running with consistency where all of our setups are identical! In addition to this, when Smash Wii-U comes out, we'll be ready for it!
