A stage that has graced three separate smash title now, Kongo Jungle 64 has had several changes over the years so I decided to give it another close look to see how it plays in Smash 4 as part of our ongoing series to research every single stage in Smash 4 works.

The stage has two high static platforms that are located on either side of the stage. The height is easily reachable with a single jump by many characters. The main platform of the stage has two flat points that slowly dip down into a crevasse. One of the other interesting aspects of the stage is that in its center there are two small platforms that rotate in a simple circle. You can pass through the floor of the stage when recovering, sharking, or being shot out of the barrel.

On that note, the final excitement of the stage is the barrel below the stage. The barrel starts at the center of the stage and begins its movement before the players can even move. It will always move to the left. The barrel takes 4 seconds to move from one side to another. The barrel also spins every 6 seconds so players must be careful so they do not accidentally shoot themselves downward. Jumping into the barrel refreshes your double jump (or any multiple jump). When being shot out you are given a slight hitbox that will do 4% damage with light knockback if you hit an opponent. You can also attack out of it once you stop spinning.

This picture shows the stage in its entirety. It shows the barrel spinning and the middle platforms rotating at their highest height.

Summary:
  • There are rotating platforms in the middle of the stage
  • The floor is able to be passed through
  • The cannon refreshes jumps, and when shooting out characters can damage any opponent hit with 4%

I've died to the barrel under 100. Barrel knockback might have a sweetspot. Also notable is the entire time that you're spinning after being shot from the barrel, you're invincible.
