Don't think this roster is entirely realistic (it's closer to a wishlist roster), and I'm not Really that knowledgable on Sega.

It's mostly All star racing + some Personal Choices.

All these Icons can be found in roster maker or in the link in my signature.

It's a good roster, shows important characters like Sonic, Alex Kidd, etc.

And I barely know that much about SEGA.

The question is who are Sega's big 3: My guess would be Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star, and Sonic.
Sonic is Mario
Phantasy Star is Zelda
Virtua Fighter is Pokemon

What does everybody else think?

You are missing Rister, Paperboy, and Toe Jam and Earl. Also although he is third party, you cannot have a SEGA all-star without Earthworm Jim.

I have a second roster poster with Ristar and Toe Jam and Earl. Just scroll down. Paperboy is technically third party I remember playing him on the NES.

Earthworm Jim I remember primarily as a multi-platform character. But I can see why you want him. I apply the same rules as balance as if Sakurai was making the game. And he might have been, in my alternate timeline, Nintendo went third party and Sakurai still quit his position at Hal. He may have developed Sega Smash Bros Melee.

I honestly just don't think Sega has enough strong franchises to really make this work. Namco could maybe do it, Konami and Capcom has already done it in their own ways. But Sega isn't nearly as strong imo

Says the fan of Capcom and Konami and Namco, who definitely DID not have strong franchises before crossovers. Or maybe you just don't know that much about Sega

Sega hasn't done a whole lot with a ton of their franchises lately, but back in the day they easily rivaled Nintendo for sheer number of strong IPs. Sonic, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, ToeJam & Earl, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd, After Burner, Jet Grind Radio, Panzer Dragoon, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, Super Monkey Ball, Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier, ChuChu Rocket, Vectorman... those are just off the top of my head. When it comes to making a "Smash"-type roster, Sega could fill up 40-50 character slots just as easily as Nintendo, Capcom, Namco, Konami or Square-Enix.

a majority those are some pretty weak titles. if Sega actually kept up on their franchises outside of giving them pity cameos in Sonic games, then i could agree that they could pull off a successful Smash type game. however, thats not the case. the roster wouldnt entice modern gamers to buy. at best you can hit people up on nostalgia which can work but i would have zero confidence in that being enough. of course they could fill up a roster. hell companies like Level 5 could potentially fill up a roster that big. that doesnt mean it would be successful or that its really a good idea. but hey, this is an argument i havent cared about in almost a year. thanks for bringing me back here.:glare:

Sorry to drag you back into it, then, but I'm curious as to which ones you think are weak. I'd say there's at least one excellent title in every single series I listed.

And you're right, most modern gamers probably wouldn't recognize a lot of the older characters, but that's true of plenty of games that actually get released. Super Smash Bros. has plenty of characters like that, as do Marvel vs. Capcom, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, etc. And really, as long as they have Sonic, it will sell. Only twelve people on earth would know the full roster of my dream fighting crossover "LucasArts vs. Sierra: Point-and-Click Pummeling," but enough would , and maybe it could introduce those younger gamers to those characters, albeit in a new context.

Quite honestly I'm not all too familiar with SEGA franchises. Sonic, Ristar, and Super Monkey Ball (on Gamecube at least) are the only ones I care about.
I was a Nintendo kid in the 90's (though it doesn't say much since I was born in '94 and all I had was an NES till 2000). My parents say we apparently had a Genesis but I have no memory of that.
That's not to say they have a terrible character selection since the All Stars racing games have a neat roster. They're just some that I'm not too familiar with.
Danica Patrick for SEGA Smash Bros.
Hatsune Miku for SEGA Smash Bros.
Wreck-it-Ral-
Alright I'm done here.

Even though many of Sega's franchises are dormant so they can continue to milk Sonic , it should not stop them from making a crossover fighter. They have enough franchises, and many unique characters to choose from despite how unknown they are. I doubt other crossover franchises did not have this problem.

I think we're assuming that in this alternate universe, Sega DID keep their other franchises up, for the record. That being said, I want a Skies of Arcadia sequel. My big question is Who would be their ROB?

I would pay ALL the money for Skies of Arcadia 2. That's one of my favorite games of all time, and easily my favorite RPG. It's nice seeing Vyse, Aika and Fina pop up in Valkyria Chroinicles, and all the Skies content in All-Stars Racing Transformed is encouraging, but a full-fledged sequel would absolutely make my day. As would Jet Set Radio 3, Shenmue 3 and a proper Phantasy Star 5.

Aiai.
Amigo.
Ristar.
Jet the Hawk.
B.D. Joe.
Vector the Crocodile.
Mario.

If half of those characters were in the game, it would already have my money.

But yeah enjoy

I made rosters for all four current Super Smash Bros. games. I don't know a lot of these characters so most of it was just complete guessing. I was completely limited to what the Roster Maker had and what I found on the internet. I also did not take into account dates of characters being made so it is completely inacurrate. Without further ado, I present to you: Super Sega Bros.!

but that comment pretty much says a lot as to why nintendo has always been dominant and are still active in the hardware market, whereas sega are not. nintendo fans buy nintendo franchises and support them, whereas many sega fans do not. outside of sonic, and perhaps hatsune miku, sega does not have as many strong and successful franchises and characters compared to nintendo.
at least many nintendo fans put their money where their mouth is when mario, metroid, pokemon, smash and zelda is concerned. when the likes of virtua fighter, valkyrie chronicles and other good games that sega releases, many sega fans do not support these franchises as much as they do with sonic.
