Hauppauge HD PVR 1 Problem

Does anyone know why using the HD PVR changes the aspect ratio or whatever on my TV? I have tried svideo and composite connections to the hd PVR and both make the game more narrow on the TV. (There is black borders on both sides on the TV) I am currently using a gamecube but could also use a wii if that would work better. I just prefer the gamecube with svideo input because it is higher quality on the TV.

Can you change your TV's display to change the aspect ratio? There is no setting in the HD PVR 1 to change it to output in 4:3

(Also, set luma and chroma to 0 for optimal video quality)
