Another year has flown away. It's Hard to believe that it's been 4 years ago since my very first ssb match on netplay, still remember how excited was that moment, i was like "OMG I'm playing against someone from another part of the globe!" also my English was terrible so I barely understand what those random people that i first played were telling me but they just couldn't understand at all my terrible typing.

So, I keep undefeated during my first days playing against random people, of course I felt so happy and proud of myself for the victorys and the good comments of people about how my Mario was pretty good.

I didn't have that much sense of competition until i met Jimbot, the one who introduced me to my first online tourney, which was his second tourney, there i met great players like Fragmastergen, nico and my worst nightmare at netplay, cHaos. for most of the entrants i was just another newbie to fill spots on the tourney but they don't even expected me to go through the finals and play against Frag and cHaos, maybe Jimbot did, i guess he had some faith on me to defeat cHaos, the outstanding superior Kirby user, it may sound weird but his name inspired terror over kaillera for some time. While i barely handle my match against frag and won, i just couldn't stand against cHaos and lost badly to him, now i was kinda sad and disapointed because i wanted to win that badly, but at last i had a reason to try to get better at ssb. now my goal was... Defeat cHaos!

Jimbot made another tournament, so of course I enter, my goal this time was not wining the tourney but have a victory against cHaos, i met other good players during this season, like moogle, Frizzle, mekanos and vicioman. my opponents were harder this time, but i made it through the brackets, just to being stopped again by cHaos, this time at the quarter finals, even tough I improved a little and almost won against him, he somehow started to destroy me again.

I joined to Raw's second tourney., hoping to hit another chance against cHaos, but now i couldn't even go through second round. I "retired" from online SSB for a while, because of my embarrassing performance at raw's tourney and the fact that my notes at high school were going bad and my parents wont let me play for that... Also i met Sephirothken and got defeated, I've been waiting for a rematch since then.

it was until 2005 when I finally comback to my online activity, many things changed, cHaos was no longer #1 and other players really improved like Raw, Nico, moogle, Dark Link and many others, I met SuPeRbOoMfAn who become my favorite Team partner and friend, we entered on a team tourney at Smash Pros Forums and "won", heh it got messed up at the finals, we were supposed to play against Frizzle and Battousai but always one of us was missing, if not frizzle, then me or super, anyway i guess we won that one xP.

arround 2005/2006 where my ssb activity was higher i met Johnny and Malva, i was sceptical about how good were they, specially Malva who could destroy Johnny, "no way!" I couldn't stand a chance against Johnny but Malva was able to take him down? god i really need to improve! when i finally played malva for the first time, i hardly could lie a hit on him, his Link was just crazy, i couldn't even think about how good he'll be with another characters.

Smash Pros started to lose activity, almost end of 2005 i started to take care for the main event of the site "The Series" made some improvement's to the rules and added a Ladder Ranking, as expected, malva got top pretty quickly owning the belts and defending them. super improved a lot along with Dark Link who defeated my mario at my attempt to get the Mario belt.

There was another tourney at Smash Pros, it was double elimination i guess, can't remember at all, may be the last one before it's shutdown, cHaos returned and beat malva there, everyone was surprised, me as well of course, cHaos has been always awsome with Kirby, but frizzle stopped cHaos, i had a hard way through the brackets but i made it to the finals, where malva finally ended my dreams to victory 4-0 xP...

Smash Pros Forums died at half of 2006 after summer vacations, even tough the series was still running, not as active like before, the site got hacked and soon lost most of its members.

this year i met alot of good players, but also some others have "leaved", there're too many that I'll feel bad if i forgot to mention anyone of them and i miss those who have left.

4 years of online ssb... sometimes i wonder what would happen if i have never met Jimbot, probably i wouldn't have joined his tourneys and never met all those players who helped me to improve like frag and cHaos, may be I've never been able to play against malva, who's now the one i want to overcome after cHaos. So i want to thank Jimbot for giving me the chance to play on his tourney, i guess is thanks to him that now i'm here, thanks to cHaos too, for helping me to improve in my early netplay days, thanks malva/isai for all your advices, thank you super for being my partner and friend as well as Dark Link, moogle, eva00, Solrac and everyone else sorry if i'm missing many others the list is just too big xP, THANK YOU ALL!

Now the way is harder, there are more players that have improved and grown better than me, but that's good because if they can get that good, i can do it as well.

well those were some of my thoughts that i wanted to share with you xP. Happy New Year!

Happy new year
But realistically, there's nothing happy about it, we're just 1 more year closer to the inevitable, haha

Anywho, why you use the term "destroy", that makes it seem too bad :(
But yeah, he does destroy me

When did I start playing ssb online, hmm
I think it was probably around Summer of 2005
I got to play many fun matches against new people
Sure, the game has its lags and delays, but the feeling of playing against a new strategist every time was worth it
I think around Fall of 2005 was when I stopped playing smash entirely
Because I started playing World of Warcraft, which consumed a majority of my time
And around Spring of 2006, I started playing online again, due to my recent quitting of WoW
That's when I noticed many new players, as well as many old players not being there, which was kind of sad
But every thing has only a limit of appeals, right
Then, after a while, SCD decides to stop allowing n64 emulation, which in the end caused its downfall, basically
Smash was really slow after that happened, players were scattered all over the servers
So I stopped playing again, this time because I started playing DotA and really liked it
Then around Summer 2006, I decided to make a server for people to play smash in
Didn't last quite long, as I didn't know what I was actually doing
Server with no restrictions = chaos
Then so kind of Paramount to start hosting a server, Emularena Grounds X
Everyone started going there and now there's usually over 40 people connected during the daytime
And since then, it leads to now, 01/01/07
So that's what, 2 years of online play
Wow, so fast how time flies

If smash64 really comes out on the virtual console for the Wii and has online capabilities
We can surely say that smash on Kaillera will be over with
Perhaps people will still want a place to chat with other players and maybe arrange matches
That is, assuming the Wii does not have chat functions, haha
If smash64 can be played online through Wifi, Im definitely gonna buy one
Maybe pick up playing Brawl too

And finally, Happy new year, everyone
I wish you all the best on this day, and the 364 days that's coming along too
Have fun, be safe, don't drink and drive

Happy new year, all. I hope brawl is more like ssb64 than it is like melee.

If it is, I'm stealing my friend's wii and hiding out in my basement for a few years. When i come out, i'm going to be a god. It'll be like the hyperbolic time chamber in DBZ...except it wont have the gravity thing....or maybe it will...

anyways good luck to all of you in your upcoming semester of college, high school, or just a new year of work! have fun, but don't have more than 20 drinks. Yes, 20 drinks DOES impair your ability to drive regardless of what your drunk mind is telling you

be safe!

Thought I'd supernecrobump this in brazen defiance of the rules. It's so hilariously cool to me to read the epic tale of JaimeHR's struggles with Online SSB and his early tourney prowess against the forgotten smash-lords of old.

Yeah weird how few really really old school guys are still around

Also weird how bad they were. I've played pekkle and she's a sweetheart but wow there are two levels below her and like 25 peeps total above

SK you don't remember battousai (as in Himura Kenshin the)? For shame.

I know of Himura Kenshin. I've never heard this "battousai" alternate name. He was really that much of a veteran? I don't remember him being very good.

I miss the old days of online. All I had to do back then was talk trash and better players than me lined up to beat me up. That was the only time I ever made progress. No point in playing online anymore when all the people better than you don't play or barely play online anymore.

I feel the exact same way. When I started playing in 2009 I would trash talk to PPS just to get them to play me. I got destroyed but it was fun and motivated me to keep playing. Now most of those people are gone.

No, he wasn't terribly good, as you can see from his placing on the tier list from 2004. Being old school doesn't make you malva.

He was always "Himura Kenshin the Battousai" or "Himura Kenshin" or "HK the Battousai" or just "battousai," and he definitely went back AT LEAST to '07 and liked to ***** (in 2011) about how kaillera was dead in the exact same way that people do today. I'd be surprised if it wasn't him.

Plot twist: battle cattle = battousai

Online doesn't suck because people are friendly. It sucks because there's no competition between people and all the players that I aimed at to be better than have quit or hardly play.

One of my fondest memories of my start on kaillera was talking trash to fireblaster and tigerbombz and going on about how I would pwn them. Then they agreed to do rotations with me and took turns 3 stocking me. Then instead of kicking me, fireblaster gave me some advice and told me to chill or no one would want to play me. If it wasn't for that, I would have been just another scrub who passed through kaillera and quit because he couldn't beat anyone.

this is completely normal in any sport/game/skill. you start off as a noob with lots of veterans that are better than you and then over the years u get better and those veterans retire and now you are one of the better veteran players with not many people better than you. To complain about this is completely ridiculous as it is the natural way of things. of course the old school players are going to retire eventually. but that doesn't mean that the level of competition has decreased it just means the people who were once noobs have gotten better and are the new veterans

I'm not complaining about anything and btw the "better veterans" in 2009 were a lot better than the veteran players of today.

you guys are complaining. I'm soooo sorry that you guys feel that there's no point in playing online. You guys sound just like han solo when he says fox sucks. If you think that the situation sucks, just deal with it. No reason why you should complain about it like anyone is going to do anything about it.

Online is super beneficial for the majority of this community who isn't ****ing A tier or whatever.

I remember I felt the same way around 2010 or so. Isai, Boom, Jaime had too high of a delay with me, and pretty much all of "A tier" very rarely played, if at all. The only player near my level or above I had to play regularly was Sheer, and I was pretty emo about it (and complained a few times on the boards about how the better you become, the lonelier it is, if you some of you guys remember - Battlecow berated me for that lol). I think everyone goes through that phase.

If you ask me it's actually better now. I have to admit I've rarely been playing lately, but the couple of times I went online I got some difficult opponents like Z and LD pretty easily.

We played on Good at EGX, but when it died (~mid 2009) and Galaxy was created, we switched to Exc. So we'd have been using Exc at that point. And if anyone caused the change to LAN to happen it was Firo (server mandates, the only way any change ever happened, lol - change to Exc happened the same way (thanks to Near I guess?))

I heard a lot of people say that LAN causes ds to occur more often, not sure if it's true but I don't think the switch will happen =P
I remember reading that and thinking "history will vindicate me." Battlecow: being right on the internet since early 2010.
