After the controversial MVG Sandstorm Toronto Joe announced on Twitter via Twitlonger that Get On My Level 2015 would no longer be an MVG Global Qualifier. The transcript of this announcement is below:

---

Announcements of this fashion are always hard to make but I would like to confirm that GOML 2015 will no longer be an MVG Global Qualifier.

During Sandstorm MVG was not able to meet the expectations of both the fans in person and those who tuned in to their broadcast. The decision to keep GOML off the MVG Qualifier circuit was a call that myself and my team felt needed to be made after Sandstorm took place simply because we cannot guarantee or say with confidence to people attending or viewing online that their GOML experience won’t be potentially impacted with MVG as a secondary stream. At the end of the day if we can't say in good faith that the quality of their stream and our event as a byproduct will be up to the standards we expect from our tournaments then we can't sign off on things. It is clear that the MVG crew needs more experience and time to prepare for national sized events. It's a stressful job and I wouldn’t want to have their streaming crew fly across the country and take on the responsibility of broadcasting some of the competition at this point in time given how much myself and my team has worked on this event. This does not mean that MVG is blacklisted from our events or anything of the sort, or that I support the witch-hunt some people went on in social media after Sandstorm(I think that was super lame tbh), I really just think that they need some time to develop as an organization before trying to take on the task of putting together national sized events or global circuits.

The transition from local events to national events takes time and a lot of experience to pull off successfully. Speaking from our own experience, the YU Smash club(our student club dedicated to Smash events in Toronto) started 2 years ago with 15-20 person monthlies, if that, and eventually we were able to work our way up to have GOML 2014 for the Ontario scene. The process from then to now involved tons of bumps and we learned a lot, every event we are still learning from because there is always something to improve on; any well known TO in their region will tell you this. With that said, I hope MVG is able to take the criticisms they receive and use it to better improve their events. Regardless of where you host your events or what you rep, we all should strive to bring the absolute best to our communities. A tournament’s success goes far beyond the numbers they bring in online or in person, what truly defines a tournament is the memories it creates and how the people involved felt once everything is wrapped up. It doesn’t matter if you watch, compete, or come just to be part of the hype, these events are an awesome platform for people to share their love for the game and we can't downplay how crucial of a role they play in building the community. If we hope to continue to fuel this growing passion people have for this series then we need to set a better standard for what is expected out of events regardless of their size. That ultimately is why we are sticking with our core group of staff members for this event, we want to make sure that we do the community a proper service with the tournaments we host and live up to expectations set from GOML 2014 as well as our teams goals.

So yeah, please put the pitchforks down and give MVG time to come into their own as an organization. Right now they might not be in a position to run large scale events but there’s no reason to kick them while they are down. Myself and my staff have nothing against MVG and genuinely want to see them improve. Arizona has proven time and time again that they are up there with any scene when it comes to the passion they have for Smash so I wish them nothing but the best and I know they will have some cool things planned upcoming. We have all made mistakes at tournaments and the main thing is that we learn from them and use them as motivation to deliver a better experience next time around. At the very least I think they should get another chance to prove themselves or focus on local events until they gain the experience they need. With that said, my team will continue as normal with planning for GOML and we are beyond excited to bring another hype event to the community. If you attended GOML 2014 you know that you're in for a good time and we are going to try to make this years even better. We hope you can share the experience with us whether it be in person or online May 30-31st, because we can't wait for what’s to come. - Toronto Joe

Don't you too love how Melee and Sm4sh are pretty much walking holding hands together in the tournaments while the whole Smash community is endlessly and stupidly arguing over those two games including ourselves?

Best thing I've ever read in so many time :D

And I mostly believe that these recent tourneys are excluding Project M from their line-ups in order to get support directly from Nintendo.

lawl Nintendo doesn't care about us so tourney organizers shouldn't care for Nintendo

Also what does it mean when they say it's no longer a qualifier? What aren't they qualified for?

Oh man, that kinda sucks. This tournament is in my area, might have wanted to go to that if I do well enough at my locals in a couple days.

Eh, I still might go, why not, right?

I'm just arguing with myself over which game is better.
I guess it is an argument over whether I'm better at one or another.
I guess I just like PM more, so it makes the decision harder.

That sucks!!! Well, I hope MVG gets okay. They seem to be nice guys, but just need to plan more before any event... Anyway, what does MVG stands for? Major Video Gaming?
It stands for Most Valued Gaming.

this is a bit drastic and nihilistic. have a broken stream for 1 event and it's game over lol. smash death

like MVG and m2k have bad intentions
They don't want a chance to ruin their image with a streamer that has a bad record. MVG will have to do more streams/tournies and improve their infrastructue before poeple will trust them better. Hopefully MVG improves I have a lot of love for the people involved in MVG.

This was an interesting move on TJoe's part, but I can't say I blame him.

I am very hopeful for MVG and I firmly believe they will do well as an organization, but in terms of right now, GOML's team is a little worried that their event will be ran down because of how it might end up being run (and also, a lot of people don't like MVG right now).

I really hope MVG ends up succeeding, because they have the vision of benefiting the smash community, and I can never be mad at that.
