Caped Dedede Glitch

Getting caped by Mario while Aerial Gordo dashing causes the Gordo to get stuck to Dedede, while no longer having a hitbox, it still causes a hit effect when you swing your hammer, and use your side-b, causing them to ricochet behind you. Dieing does not cause it to disappear, only restarting the match will.

how reliably are you able to reproduce this? I've been unable to get any result like the one you've reported.

I don't think it's cape-specific. Here's a video of it happening after getting hit by an aerial. It looks to me like it's a bug regarding the Gordo waddle-dash code where getting hit causes him to skip the actual letting go of the Gordo, without it being put in his hand like an item.
