He is the next most logical third party character to be added since he is both retro and classic and cartoony no one else makes more sense than him.

I'd like to be a supporter of the White Bomber himself, Bomberman! I personally think out of all of Konami's biggest choices (Snake and Simon Belmont) Bomberman fits the best in Smash, although Simon would be pretty bad*ss.

edit- I've always wanted to battle the White Bomber as the Blue Bomber so I'd love him in Smash.

I was thinking.... we need Bomberman just because I really want the last All Star match on the Wii U to have 7 characters like all the other sections. Only characters created prior to 1985 would fit in that section though.

Thanks for watching I really think he deserves to make it in
I commented on your thing, I'm inthelittleocean. Bomberman definitely deserves to be in, he's one of gaming's forgotten icons. I mean there's his biggest competition Snake and Simon Belmont but I think he can beat them. But chuknow you gotta watch out for that Frogger. Biggest competition right there (joking)

I was watching videos of the top characters list people voted for on different youtube channels, and everytime the commentator would get to bomberman on the list they'd be like mah. He's ok, kinda weird or something like that. Im just so surprised people dont consider bomberman a legendary character who would bring a unique moveset to smash (link/toonlink being the closest). In my book he's up there with mario, pacman, sonic, as a franchise making legend. But why is it so many people seem to look over this character? I can imagine just how much fun he'd be to play.

Just got done having few rounds on Bomber Man Ultra, dealing with a pro here and she told me to "git gud". Best night of my life and it reminds me that I need to do something for the White Bomber soon.

Guys, I found this great render of Bomberman by the guy that did the fake Splatoon X Mario leak.
Aaaaaaaaand I've found the perfect image to edit with. This is quite the lovely render that I'm looking at. :happysheep:

What were they thinking? Appealing to the American audience since they love their gritty realism and spontaneous explosions in video games these days. I might as well blame Call of Duty for starting that trend. :troll:

Yeah, but why did they have to ruin the Bomberman name with it. Konami could've done something with I don't know, ****ING CONTRA, THE FRANCHISE THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ACTION MOVIE LIKE AND APPEALS TO AMERICANS. Konami makes stupid business decisions.

I personally think Bomberman should be Smash 5's prominent third party newcomer like how Sonic was for Brawl and Megaman was for Smash 4.

I remember back in the day when Bomberman was such a huge thing. I used to be obsessed with Bomberman.

I wouldn't mind Bomberman being in Smash. From a business standpoint, he would be a wise choice. Like Ryu, he has the popularity and seniority. If Bomberman did make it in, I'd love for his Bombs to explode in lines just like in the old games.

I can't even begin to describe how much I enjoyed playing Bomberman Blast on the Wii. This is one deserving third-party character.

I think a ton of people would love to play Bomberman and he should be added on the account of being an multi-player icon. The unfortunate thing is that because his IPs is one step away from the grave not many people request him.
Beat you to it! It's cool though, I change 'em up pretty frequently!
I'll let you have this... for now that is.

SOON IT WILL BE MINE! WAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I don't know. I spent a lot of time trying to bring life to this thread but there are only so many unique and inspired moves I can come up with, sadly. Especially when everything has to tie in to one specific gimmick.

Other characters are easier because they either fight in a well defined manner that provides a clear moveset or don't have any defined combat characteristics. Bomberman has a very specific style of battle consisting of bombs, movement of bombs and movement via bombs, all of which have massive potential for fun gameplay but are quite hard to explore from a design standpoint while remaining true to the source's moves and items.

Well the thread doesn't just have to be about Bomberman's moveset. Just keep to his games. Like for instance, when the **** is Konami gonna get their **** straight and make another Bomberman.

Movesets are the majority of what I do but I know there's other potential discussion to be had. Infact, I addressed a similar topic to yours with this post a while back:

I've been thinking and what I think would be a cool idea for reviving the series:

A Bomberman Hero style Shirobon is reprising his role as interstellar policeman/general goody goody when he comes across a planet being invaded by a horde of killer robots. They have all the same abilities he does and, while his skills and training are greater, he simply cannot compete with their sheer numbers.
Instead, he must don their armour and infiltrate their base to take the factory and training facility down from within.

The game would use mechanics similar to Bomberman 64 to allow it to alternate between classic top down Bomberman battles and platforming segments which would this time involve stealth elements and thus put a heavy emphasis on knocking out foes before killing them. The sound of bombs would not give you away because it's expected within the facility.
During these stealth missions, Shirobon will illogically remove the armour to show himself to the players.

The art style would be the childish bright colours and chibi look of Bomberman Generation and a similar wide array of powerups would be present but, aside from the occasional trips to planets, all the scenery would be the nitty gritty sort found within Act Zero, for that is where you are.
The idea is, in fact, a tongue in cheek destruction of all that Act Zero was, worked into a darker than average Bomberman plot that still plays upon past elements of the series and cameos many of the main character's companions. This is reflected in the aforementioned look too, with the chibi block colour Bomberman style essentially taking the piss out of the highly detailed and grimy Act Zero robots, while the discrepancy between colourful planets and dark, gloomy factory serves to further hit home the message of "this place is evil and everything about it is wrong".
Personally, I found Generations a little too childish, especially given it was my first Bomberman game since the serious N64 ones. There is room for dark in the series and maybe even for a more grown up and brooding approach than we've really seen before but their attempt at being gritty was simply atrocious, even ignoring the failed gameplay and underdeveloped plot.
Konami does indeed need to get their act together and hopefully create something that appeals to both the older audience and the younger market like the games we used to know.

I saw a N64 Bomberman game a couple months ago (okay maybe not a couple), I really should have bought it but I passed. I think Bomberman shouldn't be all that serious when it comes back after the monstrosity that was Bomberman on the 360. Start a little more kid friendly with the themes and story and then when you've got your momentum, you can add more serious tones and themes.

I guess that makes sense. Bomberman Hero and 64 were both amazing games and I hear the same about Second Attack but the 4th, japan only "Bomberman 64" looks awful. It's basically a bad remake of the 2D games with a few equally bad minigames added.
Still, that's hardly important when the games we got were so great. Just wish I had access to Second Attack.

after looking at this thread i can't help but feel a little sad inside... Bomberman was one of my childhood icons in video games. and he hasn't had a game in years. you have my support.

i've already voted on other characters on my different devices, but i'll see if i can get a vote in from a relatives device, just to make sure it counts.

Bomberman

Stats:
Height: 6 (around Sonic)
Weight: 6.5
Falling Speed: 7
Speed: 5
Air Speed: 6
Jump: 7
Type: Trap/Projectile

Mechanic: Power Up
Hitting your opponent with a bomb has a 50% chance to have them to drop a power-up from the bomberman series. These power ups can only be picked up by Bomberman and will stored and displayed with their icon above your character icon. The max number of power ups you can have is 5. However, if you should detonate a bomb next to a power-up, it will disappear. These power-ups reset every stock. Power-ups disappear from the stage after 5 seconds.

Power-ups:
Fire - increases the range of your smaller bombs by 1 tile in each direction (about half a character length)

Skate - increases your walk and dash speed

Heart - allows you to survive an explosion from your own bomb without taking damage (1 use only)

Bomb up - increases the maximum number of bombs you can have on screen (max 4 bombs)

Line Bomb - allows you to consecutively drop up to your maximum amount of bombs by holding down b but has a 8 sec cooldown before you can pull another bomb.

Pierce Bomb - bombs do 1.5x the shield damage.

Bomb Pass - makes bombs thrown at you pass right through you (can still be hurt by the explosion though)

Power Glove - lets you throw bombs further and pick up power bombs

Specials:

Neutral: Bomb
A basic move that puts a normal bomb into Bomberman's hand. Bombs that explode create a small cross like explosion that hits in all 4 directions just like in the Bomberman games. Bombs can be thrown like any other in the series but unique to Bomberman, he can place them on the ground in front of him by pressing down on the c-stick when on the stage with a bomb in hand. A maximum of 2 bombs can be out at a time without power up. Do 8% when thrown normally and hits 4 times making it hard to spot dodge it.

Side: Bomb Kick
A move that send bombs and other tangible items rolling down the stage. The distance this sends the item is around half the size of final destination. This move also make grounded bombs that are kicked have explode on contact and cannot be picked up as long as they are rolling on the ground. Does 7% if hit by the foot. Bombs chucked this way do 10%.

Down: Bomb Panel
This move can only be used on the ground. Bomberman hits the ground causing a panel to appear where he stands. The panel can display many different icons that have different effects. Most panels change a bomb's effect and look if it lands or slides past that panel. The 2 panels may be on a stage at once and they disappear after 10 seconds. The different panels include:

Power: Causes the bomb to grow into a much larger power bomb and increases it's range to maximum fire. Power bombs do much more damage but also keep the effect of the bomb (ie. thunder power bombs). Cannot be thrown without power glove.
Speed: Causes bombs to turn into speed bombs that fly much faster and further in the air or when kicked. Does not change the bombs effect.
Skull: A panel that actually causes random stat effects lasting 5 seconds on people that land on it (even you). These effect include flower, temporary slowed movement, temporary decreased knockback and damage on attacks, severely decreased weight.
Ice: Changes the bomb into an ice bomb that can freeze anyone it hits. Length frozen depends on percentage. 8%
Wind: Changes the bomb into a hurricane bomb. When they explode a multihit hurricane comes out that rises toward the ceiling. 15 hits of 1%.
Water: Changes the bomb into a water bomb. Creates a wave that travels horizontally on hit.
Lightning: Changes the bomb into a thunder bomb. Causes paralysis on hit. 12%
Earth: Changes the bomb into a navarm bomb. Causes a meteor smash on airborne people and pitfalls people on the ground. 10%
Light: Panel disappears after one use. Turns bombs into light bombs. when light bombs explode they cover a large area causing anyone on the ground to be put in a dazed state regardless of if shielding or dodging. 5%
Shadow: Turns bombs into gravity bombs. These bombs suck in nearby enemies into a vortex that deals multiple hits. 12% max.

Up: Jetpack
Bomberman flies up in his jetpack that can be curved midair. The fire that comes out of the back does damage as well as running into opponents with the front. If bomberman has a bomb in his hand while using this move, he can drop it by pressing the B button. If you have the line bomb item you can drop multiple bombs.

Smash Attacks
Side Smash: Boxing Glove
Bomberman delivers a punch. While it doesn't have much knockback or damage it is quick and can also be used to hit bombs at a 60 degree angle and is one of his few moves outside of his bombs that can KO reliably. 12% uncharged 17 fully charged.

Down Smash: Mine Trap
Bomberman digs a mine into the ground that detonates when someone steps on it. Think of this as inheritance from Snake.

Up Smash: Missile Trap
Places a missile right in front of him and sets of a small explosion to fire it. The missile explodes on contact and will shoot up into the sky before coming back down and exploding. Think of this as Snake's second inheritance.

Ground Attacks
Jab: does a punch with his right arm, a kick with his left arm, and finishes with a headbutt 2-3-4%
Side Tilt: does a backhand with one of his arms 9%
Down Tilt: does 2 hind-leg kicks 5-5%
Up Tilt: does an overhead kick similar to Sonic except only one 8%
Dash Attack: falls on his face while sliding 10%

Aerials:
Neutral: flails his arms in a circle in hysteric fashion. 6 hits 2% each
Forward: a single leg swipe forward 9%
Back: a backward punch and a strong hit 10%
Down: his downward headbutt that explodes from DreamMix. Meteors off impact. 12%
Up: hits the opponent with a headbutt similar to Ness and Lucas 9%

Throws:
Pummel: headbutts 2% each
Forward: hits the opponent twice with his fist 9%
Back: Throws his opponent backwards and slams them on the ground 6% (Snake's final inheritance)
Down: puts the opponent below him and punches the ground creating a small explosion 8%
Up: slides beneath them and kicks directly upwards

Bomberman jumps onto one a Louie and rides him for about 12 seconds. While on a Louie, bomberman can throw bombs with the B button almost lagless. He can also make the Loiue deliver a powerful punch while pressing A that deals 18%, can KO, can be used while running. Both of these moves can be used at the same time. While riding the Louie you take no damage from bombs. You also gain very fast run speed and jump height. Running past bombs while riding Louie causes him to kick them in the direction he's facing.

Final Smash: Louie

Bomberman jumps onto one a Louie and rides him for about 12 seconds. While on a Louie, bomberman can throw bombs with the B button almost lagless. He can also make the Loiue deliver a powerful punch while pressing A that deals 18%, can KO, can be used while running. Both of these moves can be used at the same time. While riding the Louie you take no damage from bombs. You also gain very fast run speed and jump height. Running past bombs while riding Louie causes him to kick them in the direction he's facing.

My last move doesn't seem to have made it onto the list:

Neutral Air - Self Destruct: Bomberman quickly presses a hitherto unseen button on his belt and an explosion emanates from the centre of his hurtbox, soon reaching 1.2 times his height in radius. This move has very little startup time but a carefully spaced move could potentially still hit Bomberman during the first few frames, before the explosion has completely encased him. There is also very little after lag, which, combined with the pretty good but rarely fatal radial knockback, would make this an insanely safe move. There is just one problem. It hurts both players equally. That's right, this move will damage both players for roughly nine percent, putting Bomberman at a significant disadvantage if he misses and so reducing its use to a last ditch "get off me!" attack.
