Welcome to the Young Cricket support thread!

Young Cricket is a recurring character in the WarioWare series, having first appeared in WarioWare: Smooth Moves for the Wii. He specialises in Kung Fu, a form of martial arts, and trains under a Kung Fu master named Mantis. Despite his silent and serious appearance and demeanour, Cricket does have a somewhat comical side. In Game & Wario, for the Wii U, Cricket's stages involve a lot of jumping, hence his name. Whilst Cricket is constantly jumping high into the air, the player must guide him to the stage's goal by tilting the Wii U game pad whilst gathering dumplings (which increase the stage timer) and steering clear of pits, traps, and other obstacles.

With his refined martial arts and overall intriguing design, Cricket would undoubtedly make a unique addition to the Super Smash Bros. roster. Cricket's inclusion in Smash 4 might even lead to him having his own game! He certainly has the potential for it.

If you are a fan of WarioWare and/or or like Cricket, feel free to offer your support for him here. Any ideas, such as move sets and whatnot, are welcome.

"Hai-Ya!!"

Here is a full list of games in which Young Cricket has appeared thus far:
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (Nintendo Wii)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo Wii)
WarioWare: Do it Yourself (Nintendo DS)
Rhythm Heaven Fever (Nintendo Wii)
Game & Wario (Nintendo Wii U)

Anyhow, I threw together this move set the other night. I actually did a lot of extensive research for it, so I hope you lot will enjoy it at least somewhat. (Shrugs) Even so, Google and YouTube can only give you so much knowledge, so there are bound to be some flaws in this moveset. Anyhow, here it is:

Summary

Cricket is basically a speedy hand-to-hand fighter. His play style focuses primarily on chaining combos and counter attacks, making him ideal for both offensive and defensive approaches. In terms of weight and fall speed, he is somewhat of a cross between Falco and Lucario. In terms of attack speed, Cricket is very much like Meta Knight, only Cricket uses his hands and feet instead of a sword. Cricket’s running speed roughly matches that of Sheik. In the air, Cricket is somewhat similar to Diddy Kong, except he moves slightly farther and faster.

1). Regular Attack (or “jab”):

• Jab 1: Cricket performs a lightning-fast palm strike.
Jab 2: Cricket follows up with a second palm strike.
• Jab 3: Cricket ends the combo with a lightning-fast side kick.

Rapid Jab: In a comical cartoon-like motion, Cricket performs an endless rain of lightning-fast kicks that keep the opponent trapped whilst building up damage. (Author’s Note: This move derives from WarioWare: Smooth Moves.)

• Regular Attack (with item): With one hand, Cricket performs a quick diagonal slash with whatever item he is wielding. Damage, speed, and knockback depend on what item Cricket is wielding.

2). Other Moves & Actions:

• Initial Jump Animation & Height: Cricket jumps into the air with his feet close together and his arms near his side. He then descends with one leg bent and his arms spread, hands closed. Almost as high as Falco’s initial jump, and about the same speed.

• Initial Jump Animation & Height (backward): Cricket jumps backward with his feet close together, one leg bent, and his arms slightly spread out, his hands closed. Almost as high as Falco’s initial jump, and about the same speed, but farther.

• Secondary Jump Animation & Height: Cricket leaps into the air with a quick flip. About as high as Falco’s initial jump, but a bit faster and farther.

• Secondary Jump Animation & Height (backward): Cricket leaps into the air in a back flip. About as high as Falco’s initial jump, but a bit faster and farther.

• Spot Dodge Animation & Duration: Cricket quickly and casually leans to the side. A little shorter than Mario’s spot dodge.

• Air Dodge Animation & Duration: Cricket quickly leans to the side. A little shorter than Mario’s air dodge.

• Dash Attack: Cricket performs a jumping spin kick, sending the opponent upward.

• Dash Attack (with item): Cricket dashes forward whilst performing a fast horizontal slash using both hands, ending up in a lunging position with the item pointed forward. Damage, speed, and knockback depend on what item Cricket is wielding.

• Get-up Attack (face up): Cricket bring his knees to his chest, then quickly leaps to his feet, kicking any opponent directly in front of him.

• Get-up Attack (face down): Whilst rising to his feet, Cricket does a lightning-fast backward kick, then a side kick in front of him, with the same foot.

• Edge Climb Attack: Cricket swings onto the stage whilst performing an axe kick. Does not do too much damage.

• Second Edge Climb Attack (when damage percent is high): Cricket slowly climbs onto the stage, then performs a weak sweeping kick.

3). Tilt Attacks:

• Forward Tilt: Cricket performs a strong roundhouse kick. If pressed two more times, Cricket will follow up with two more lightning-fast kicks. Instant startup. Third kick pushes the enemy away a short distance. Good for building up damage.

• Forward Tilt (with item): With both hands, Cricket performs a quick horizontal slash. Damage, speed, and knockback depend on what item Cricket is wielding.

• Upward Tilt: Cricket crouches and performs a strong vertical kick that sends the opponent in the air, setting the opponent up for an air combo. Very slightly slow startup. Can be “jab-cancelled” into.

• Downward Tilt: Cricket crouches and performs a sweeping kick that will sometimes trip the opponent. Quick startup. Can be “jab-cancelled” into.

4). Smash Attacks:

• Forward Smash (Butterfly Kick): Cricket hops forward a little--at the same time, he performs a strong side kick then a strong reverse kick. Has roughly the same knockback as Pit’s forward smash. Opponent also takes a good amount of damage. Quick startup. Can be “jab-cancelled” into.

• Forward Smash (with item): With both hands, Cricket performs a fast and strong vertical slash. Damage, speed, and knockback depend on what item Cricket is wielding.

• Upward Smash: Cricket performs a strong, quick palm strike above him. Instant startup. Knocks the opponent well into the air, setting him/her up for an aerial combo. Poor horizontal range, low vertical range. Can be “jab-cancelled” into.

• Downward Smash: Cricket performs a split kick mid-air, damaging opponents on either side of him whilst pushing them away. Faster than Fox’s Down-Smash, but slightly weaker. Can be “jab-cancelled” into.

5). Aerial Attacks:

• Neutral Aerial: Cricket performs a trio of lightning-fast kicks, the third of which pushes the enemy away. Instant startup.

• Forward Aerial (Great Bird Claw Spike): Cricket raises his dominant arm, gathering force, then performs a powerful spike that will send the opponent plummeting downward at a -45 or -135 degree angle. Slow startup. Will always kill at any damage percentage, unless the opponent lands on a platform. (Author’s Note: This move derives from the Kung Fu Ball mini game in Rhythm Heaven Fever.)

• Backward Aerial: Cricket performs a lightning-fast reverse kick, then deals two more lightning-fast kicks. Instant startup. Similar to Marth’s backward aerial, Cricket’s backward aerial will cause him to switch directions.

• Upward Aerial: Cricket flips over, his head facing the ground, then performs a single, strong lightning-fast kick above him. Knocks the opponent high into the air, setting him/her up for an aerial combo.

• Downward Aerial: Cricket does a quick flip, then comes plummeting straight downward, feet first. Any opponent he collides with will be damaged and sent flying upward. Slightly slow startup. (Author’s Note: This move derives from Game & Wario.)

6). Special Moves:

• Standard Special (Summoning Scroll): Cricket deftly conjures and unravels a large scroll, which then produces a random creature from a puff of smoke. Said creature then performs a quick attack and disappears in a puff of smoke. There are five different creatures that can be summoned: A Piranha Plant, a miniature Arwing, a Metroid, an Octorok, and a Dangerous Duck. The Piranha Plant bites the opponent, sending him/her flying (can kill at medium-high percentages). The Arwing fires three consecutive laser blasts that send the opponent flying a medium distance. The Metroid latches onto the opponent briefly and repeatedly damages him/her. The Octorok spits three large rocks that do not knock the opponent too far, but deal a decent amount of damage. Lastly, the Dangerous Duck throws its boomerang, which sends the opponents flying a medium distance. Quick startup. (Author’s Note: This move was inspired by WarioWare: D.I.Y. The listed creatures are from Super Mario Bros, Star Fox, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, and Wario Land, respectively.)

• Side Special (Keep the Beat): In a quick, graceful, and rhythmic motion, Cricket performs up to six consecutive strikes, the last of which is a double-palm strike that sends the opponent flying. When this move is executed, one of two musical notes—an eighth note (♪) and a beamed note (♫)—will appear at random above Cricket. If a ♪ appears, the player must press the special attack button once in order to continue the combo. If a ♫ appears, the player must press the special attack button twice quickly. Quick startup. Can kill at high percentages. If used in the air, the first strike will briefly keep Cricket afloat. (Author’s Note: This move derives from WarioWare: Smooth Moves, but was also inspired by Rhythm Heaven Fever.)

• Upward Special (Cricket Jump): Cricket jumps high into the air--about as high as Dedede’s super jump, but faster. Cricket can still perform aerials after using this move, but no special moves. Very slightly slow startup. (Author’s Note: This move derives from Game & Wario.)

• Downward Special (Counter Combo): Cricket briefly strikes a pose; his right leg lifted, his right hand held forward, palm open save for his thumb and pinkie, and his left hand held close to his body, middle and index finger pointing forward. If the opponent attacks Cricket whilst he is in this pose, Cricket will parry the opponent’s attack and respond with four lightning-fast punches, one lightning-fast ground sweep kick, then a final lightning-fast uppercut that sends the opponent flying high into the air. If instead a projectile hits Cricket, Cricket will simply deflect the projectile without countering. Instant startup. (Author’s Note: This move derives from the Karate Man mini game in Rhythm Heaven Fever.)

7). Grab Attacks:

• Grab Animation & Speed: In a lightning-fast motion, Cricket reaches out for the opponent, his hand shaped like a talon. Dashing grab is slightly slower, and has a very short ending lag, but has a longer reach. Pivot grab is just as fast as regular grab, with a slightly longer reach.

• Pummel: Cricket knees the opponent. Slightly slower than Lucario’s pummel.

• Forward Throw: With a powerful double-palm strike, Cricket sends the opponent flying away well out of arm’s reach. Can be used to chain grab certain opponents.

• Backward Throw: In a quick and smooth momentum, Cricket falls on his back, taking the opponent with him, then, using the momentum, sends the opponent flying far behind him with a powerful kick.

• Upward Throw: With his hands still on the opponent, Cricket jumps over the opponent and, using the momentum, hurls the opponent high into the air. Does not do too much damage, but has high knockback.

• Downward Throw: In a quick and smooth motion, Cricket slams the opponent into the ground in front of him. The opponent is sent flying upward and away a little. Does a decent amount of damage.

8). Taunts, Poses, Etc:

• Up Taunt: Cricket briefly stands on one hand, with only his forefinger and middle finger.

• Side Taunt: Cricket pulls out a miniature broom and, in a clumsy motion, tries to keep its tip balanced in his open palm.

• Down Taunt: Cricket stands erect and, in a relaxed manner, pulls out a dumpling and eats it in one bite. He then quickly wipes his mouth with a handkerchief.

• Victory Pose 1:

• Victory Pose 2: Cricket stands on a thin, wooden stick with one foot, his legs crossed, his eyes closed, and his hands clapped together.

• Victory Pose 3: In a comical cartoon-like motion, Cricket does several lightning-fast kicks to the side, then turns to face the screen, his feet evenly apart and his fists pointed down in front of him, evenly apart.

• Idle Pose 1: In a dramatic motion, Cricket brings his arms inward, then moves his left fist to point down in front of him, his right fist close to his waist.

• Idle Pose 2: Cricket briefly shifts his feet.

• Onscreen Appearance (when the match begins): Cricket flies above the stage atop a Japanese-painted cloud and then jumps onto the stage. At the same time, he shouts, “Hai-ya!!”

9). Final Smash (Heat Fu): Upon initiating the Final Smash, Cricket is heard shouting, “Heat Fu!” At the same time, he takes a deep breath, then from his mouth unleashes a giant Japanese paint-style flame that expands as it travels forward. This move can be aimed upward and downward a little. Whilst Cricket is breathing fire, any opponent whom is caught in the giant flame is damaged repeatedly. Eventually Cricket will stop exhaling fire, and any opponent whom was caught in the fire will be sent flying or KO'ed. Similar to Samus’s Final Smash, except it travels at a limited distance. (Author’s Note: This move derives from the Kung Fu Ball mini game in Rhythm Heaven Fever.)

Young Cricket would be cool to have. I'd honestly rather have him than Ashley. *gets turned into a spoon*

He seems cool and would have a kickass moveset. If we were to have another wario rep I'd be happy if it was him or jimmy T. But honestly I know nothing about wario ware so I'd probably be fine with anything, those two just look the coolest.

I'll support him because he'd be the new Bruce Lee, not to mention his microgames were fun in Smooth Moves.

Well' as unlikely as he is, he seems cool. I just happen to like martial arts focused characters. But I'm unsure if Cricket needs to have two counter moves in his moveset. Still think that he would be one of the better Wario characters in terms of moveset potential. That, and he just looks cool.

Good to know some people liked the moveset. I honestly was not sure anybody would like it much. It is by far the most difficult moveset I have written thus far. Although, maybe I did give Cricket a little too many counter moves--(shrugs) I just thought it would make him a more unpredictable fighter.

Anyhow, I just added some palette swaps to the original post. I did them myself with GIMP. The blue, green, and red palettes represent the team colours, the purple is from Master Mantis, the yellow is for Wario, and the black and white I made up. I know the black and white ones do not look as good as the others; I had a little hard time with those.

Bump!

I just gave the moveset a huge makeover. This time, a lot more of the moves derive from the games. Hopefully some of you lot will find it to your liking.

Anyhow, I am really hoping they will one day give Young Cricket his own game. It could be just like his mini game in Game & Wario, but with a lot more stages and features. I would certainly buy it.

Resurrection!!

You know, Lucina's reveal got me thinking... I wouldn't mind having Young Cricket as a Lucario clone. His moveset could be similar to Lucario's, sans the aura mechanic. Instead of gaining more power with each blow to the body, Cricket's power would be evened out. This, in mine opinion, would be a nice option for those not wanting to deal with the aura mechanics--just how Lucina is good for those whom don't want to focus on landing blows with the sword tip.

What say you lot?

I recently noticed something whilst playing in All-Star mode. As most of you probably know, the Gamer stage on the Wii U version changes every time you choose it. Once in a while, a drawing board will appear on the left-hand side of the stage--on it will be either Mona, Jimmy T, The Mother, or Young Cricket.

At least he got in the game in some form.
