- introduction -

After a tumultuous month, Team OXY is proud to announce the revival of Kings of Cali 4! Thanks to the kind people at Red Bull Esports, we've secured a beautiful venue: Dave & Buster's in downtown Westchester, right off the 405. It'll be quite the show: July 4th weekend, stream by VGBootcamp, hosted by Team OXY, full bar, arcade, and pool hall, and what's more: $0 venue fee! Melee in a bar!

- history -

Socal's darling series is no stranger to intrigue... At the first KoC, we saw Socal best Norcal in an iconic crew battle, and PPMD snatch his first tournament win over Mango. At KoC 2, the Scar and Ken exhibition took center stage. And at Kings of Cali 3, #SOPO swept the nation, as hometown hero Fly Amanita rattled off a stunning loser's bracket run. With player's like Armada, Mango, Mew2King, aMSa, & more already confirmed, whose storyline will take center stage?

EVO
ruleset:

  • Game Settings: 4 Stock, 8 Minute Time Limit, No Items, Pause Disabled
  • Starter stages: Yoshi’s Story, Fountain of Dreams, Final Destination, Battlefield, Dream Land.
  • Counter-pick Stages: Pokémon Stadium.
  • Wobbling is legal. Freezing and infinite stalling are not legal.
  • First stage is decided by banning from the Starter Stages in P1-P2-P2-P1 order.
  • Winning player is not locked into the same character for the next match, but has to pick before loser selects character.
  • Following stages decided by winner banning one stage from all stages and then loser choosing.
  • Any matches that are best of five, there are no stage bans.
  • You may not choose a stage you have already won on unless mutually agreed to.
- conduct rules -
  1. BYOC (Bring your own controller): Players are expected to bring their own controller and be prepared for every tournament set.
  2. Turbo or programmed buttons of any kind are banned. You may use third party controllers or pads that have these features, but if you are suspected of using the banned features you will not be allowed to use that controller any longer. Failure to comply can also result in disqualification. Physical controller modifications (L spring removal/reduction, control stick circle sanding, etc) are allowed.
  3. You are responsible for your own controller and name tag and equipment. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible, keep an eye on your equipment and always check to make sure you’re using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. Both parties need to agree if a match is to be restarted because of these problems.
  4. Intentional forfeiting, match fixing, splitting, and any other forms of bracket manipulation are not allowed and punishable by the TO.
  5. No substitutions are allowed for singles or doubles.
  6. Coaching is allowed only between games, not during. Failure to adhere to this will lead to punishment at the TO’s discretion, which could include the removal from the venue.
  7. DQ Rule: Arriving too late for a match will result in a DQ. Player(s) will have 5 minutes to show up before a loss of the first match. 5 more minutes results in a loss of the set. For doubles, both players on a team need to be present in order to play.
  8. The tournament organizer has the right to save/record any tournament match if possible and has the right to upload said match.
  9. Disrupting your opponent physically or intending to disrupt their play (through something such as screaming in a player’s ear) will result in a warning. Repeated action will result in disqualification from the tournament and possibly ejection from the venue. Observers who physically disrupt players are to be dealt with as the Tournament Organiser sees fit. Disqualification is recommended if possible, and ejection from the venue is also a punishment.
  10. Although a rarity in melee (regarding textures and other game hacks):
  • Players may request that any texture, stage, or other hacks be disabled during a tournament set. If this is unable to be done, they may switch to a different setup if available.
  • Players are not allowed to use any game altering hacks, such as model hacks. If someone is caught setting up a system they brought with such hacks enabled can face punishment at the TO’s discretion.
- alcohol/drinking rules -
  • NO UNDERAGE DRINKING WHATSOEVER. The venue is for all ages, but there will be very strict and harsh punishments for any participants who break this rule. Do not test us. Bring an ID to drink.
  • DRINK RESPONSIBILITY. Belligerent persons will be kicked out and barred reentry. DO NOT DRIVE DRUNK. Have a designated driver set up.

I'm not going to this (super hyped to watch it though), but I doubt I'm not the only one wondering this question - how did you guys manage to get such an amazing venue and not have to charge a venue fee? Team OXY is OP.

I am definitely going to this! It's near my home and it's at an Dave & Busters (Why is it at an Dave & Busters anyways?) so if I'm not competing (Which is a very low possibility considering some highly-skilled players are gonna be their) I can eat and go to the Arcade. Also meet some famous smashers as well.
