IMPULSE's Melee event is officially and Apex 2013 qualifier. Apex is constantly referred to as the EVO of smash. This is because Apex is the largest tournament for the smash games. The talent present at here is unlike any other tournament, making Apex more than fitting to be the ultimate stage for smash players. Here we have an opportunity for the top placing Melee finishers to earn some seeding points for Apex 2013. The more seeding points, the better you chances are at finishing on top. Ever since I started playing and following smash on June 27th, 2009, There has not been a joint Brawl & Melee multi day national tournament for Canada. I've always wanted to be able to host something big for Canada, but various problems occurred. But now that those obstacles have been overcome, this goal became realistic again. I was able to put together a great team, and in the next few months, we all hope to be able to deliver a product that will end up as Canada's best Smash event!

Online registration is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but registration is also possible at the door from 9am-11am on June 30th!

Register at:

www.smashimpulse.com

Registration closes on Monday, June 25th at 11:59:59pm EST

The city that IMPULSE will take place in downtown Toronto, the capital city of Ontario! One of the most attractive, prestige, populated, and easily accessible cities in the country!

The venue for IMPULSE is the Pearson room in the Best Western Primrose Hotel

1. Americans can get passports very easily. Go to your local post office and apply for them. They will give you all the instructions on what to do, and some people get their passports within 2 weeks! Getting one costs $135 USD for anyone 16+ ($110 USD to renew), or $105 USD for anyone under 16.

2. A possible alternative for Americans is an enhanced drivers license which is cheaper than a passport, and quicker to obtain. The enhanced license lets you travel to Canada, and some other countries (though not as many as a passport).

3. US Passport Card

Please note that as of June 1, 2009 visitors to Canada from the United States will be required to show:

1) If you are crossing the border by land or sea: a valid US passport, a US passport card, or an enhanced driver's license.

2) If you are flying: a valid US passport ONLY

Full details available here: http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/index.html

The Best Western Primrose Hotel has informed me that they will be fully booked this weekend due to the week long Gay Pride Parade that will be occurring (view the Out of Country section or the Tour section in post 2 for more details). I have however managed to get a deal with another hotel that is a 20 minute walk away. The Metropolitan Hotel

Metropolitan Hotel

The Deluxe rooms go for $105 CAD and $104.93 USD per night. Use the following link to book your hotel rooms and try to book as early as possible to guarantee yourself a room!

There are several different modes of transportation that end up in Toronto.

DRIVING

This can sometimes be the most convenient mode of transportation since you are in full control. You leave when you want, you take breaks when you want, and you take any route you want. The IMPULSE team is also willing to sponsor a VERY limited amount of FULL carpools that are coming from outside Canada in order to help them reach IMPULSE.

BUSSING

Bussing is a very popular mode of transportation for people looking for a cheap way to reach tournaments in other cities. Here are several bus companies which provide both domestic and international routes.

Canadian Megabus site
American Megabus site
Canadian Greyhound site
American Greyhound site

The bus terminal where you will end up is the Toronto Coach Terminal.

Toronto Coach Terminal
610 Bay Street Toronto
Ontario, Canada M5G 1M5

www.torontocoachterminal.com

FLYING

If you are flying from within Canada or anywhere that's not the United States, the best airport for you to land in is the Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Toronto Pearson International Airport
6301 Silver Dart Drive, Mississauga
Ontario, Canada L4V 1E8

www.torontopearson.com

If you are flying from the United States and you want to save money, I strongly recommend that you fly to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport
4200 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga
New York, United States

www.buffaloairport.com

Then bus it via Megabus the rest of the way. The trip from Buffalo to Toronto is about 2-3 hours, and it will end up being much cheaper than flying straight into Canada.

Toronto Subway Map

- The Best Western Primrose Hotel is located east of College Station.
- The Metropolitan Hotel is located east of St. Patrick's Station and west of Dundas Station. it's closer to St.Patrick'.
- The Toronto Coach terminal is located west of Dundas Station and east of St.Patrick's Station. It's closer to Dundas Station.

THESE 3 LOCATIONS ARE ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF EACH OTHER

Make sure to take notice of the passport information!

Housing is for the nights of Friday June 29th, Saturday June 30th, and Sunday July 1st.

Registered Out of Country attendees have priority in housing.

Contact me via Facebook or PM for housing.

I will constantly be looking for anyone else who is able to provide housing, and for those of you who already volunteered, thanks a lot! Much appreciated! ^_^

The more setups we get, the better this event becomes, and the more friendlies you all get to play. I strongly encourage all of you to provide a setup. There can never be too many!

On Friday, June 29th from about 12pm-7pm. The IMPULSE team will be your hosts on a tour of Toronto! Currently the events for the tour include the following:

1. Visit to the CN Tower (going up the CN Tower costs money. For those interested: http://www.cntower.com/. As of right now, the plan is to visit the CNTower, but if enough people show interest in the tour, then perhaps I can work out a group rate :bee:).
2. Watching the Gay Pride Parade (depends on the schedule of th parade on this day).
3. Toronto Harbour & Island Tour. ($14.29 CAD) http://citysightseeingtoronto.com/Toronto-HarbourIslandCruise.html.
4. Korean BBQ/Bubble tea. (Location to be determined).

The tour is open to anyone and everyone!

Attempts will be made to subsidize costs for the out of country & west coast Canada attendees who participate in the tour.

More details of the tour can be found in the 3rd post.

Alright so there are a few things that I wanted to announce and I figure it’s best to do them all at once as one big announcement.

ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR THE SMASH GAMES IS NO LONGER MANDATORY.

Given the situations that people have presented to the IMPULSE team, it has become apparent that there are issues beyond people budgeting. For this reason, we have decided to let online registration be optional. This means that people can pay at the door for IMPULSE. If you’re entering a smash game you have the option of registering at the door. The venue fee will remain at $30. The window for in person registration goes from 9am – 11am. This is a very strict window. There will not be a lot of time left if we go over. PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE. IF YOU DO NOT MAKE IT THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE ENTERED INTO ANY EVENTS.

On another note, doubles registration will end a after the 1st wave of pools is done. This allows time for players to find a partner and report it to us. Doubles can be paid for any time before the doubles registration closes.

We hope that with these new changes, IMPULSE becomes a lot more accessible to everyone. I encourage people once again to not be late as deadlines are going to be much stricter given the amount of people we will be dealing with.

THE TOUR

The tour will begin on Friday, June 29 at 11:00 am in downtown Toronto at the Toronto Coach terminal. Members of the IMPULSE staff will be ready by 11:00 am. We will be waiting from 11:00am TO 12:00pm. Then we will begin.

Here is the address: 610 Bay Street Toronto, ON M5G 1M5

The closest subway station to it is: Dundas.

ANYONE IS ALLOWED TO COME AND PARTICIPATE IN THE TOUR, AMERICA, CANADIAN, OUT OF PROVINCE, IN PROVINCE.

The plan is to walk toward the CN Tower. Perhaps pass by the lakeshore. Watch the gay pride parade, then grab something to eat, perhaps some poutine. Every location would be in downtown Toronto.

The tour is very flexible, and it will involve A LOT OF WALKING. There are no specific times as to when we need to be anywhere, except for the INITIAL MEETING TIME. If you would like to participate then feel free to show up. The more, the merrier ^_^.

After the tour, we will likely leave everyone at A&C games so feel free to play as many casuals as possible before they close down. The IMPULSE staff will be working on setting up the venue from this point forward, meaning that the tour will be over once the smashfest starts.

SETUPS

If you are bringing a setup, the IMPULSE staff sends our deepest thanks to your support for this tournament. Try and be there for early Saturday morning so that you may setup your equipment. It would be IDEAL that you leave ur equipment in the venue between Saturday and Sunday, picking it up Sunday night. If this is not possible, then we would also appreciate it if the equipment could be left until the end of the day on Saturday, packed up. And brought back at the beginning of the day on Sunday, and then packed up at the end. As far as TV’s go, I would ask that they remain equipped for the entire weekend.

We still need more consoles (whether it be Wii’s or or Gamecubes). If you have them, please bring them. This makes for a better tournament for you at the end of the day. More places to play friendlies with all of the talent that is coming and it lessens the strain on everyone’s tournament experience :).

MELEE CREWS

The 10 vs 10 crew battle will still be happening. Captains for both sides will be assigned very soon. The crew doesn`t have to be locked in any time soon. The crew can be decided as soon as the crew battle starts. A full list of the people on both crews must be provided, as well as their characters. For rules on the crew battle, please refer to this: http://www.smashimpulse.com/rules_crews.php

BRAWL CREWS

Details are still going to be worked out. As of right now, if there is a crew, there will only be 2 teams. There is no time for a bracket of 4 different 5 man crews. Please stay tuned for more details on how this unfolds.

Definitely seems cool. This is too far out for me to confirm anything. WHOBO is also tentatively earlier this month.

Straight up, tell people how much passports cost.

You wanna be up-front about it, since I suspect this will be quite a large factor in whether some people can go or not, if they dont already have one. Might as well get it out there asap.

Tin this is my obligatory "I can has side-event?" post. It'll be Project M, since it'll definitely be out before this. I figure there'll be time at some point.

Warning to any Americans and other international players: you may want to get a heavy coat.

If this is the type of thing you'd usually wear, you'll be frozen as soon as you step outside. Since thicker ones are not available outside of Canada, I'd suggest wearing at least three layers of them (with regular sweater + t-shirt, etc).

Also be VERY careful on the roads if you're going by car. They looks like this at best, assuming they were plowed:

If possible, get some winter tires and attach snow blowers to the hood of your car.

And third, milk does indeed come in bags in Eastern Canada:

If you are insistent on drinking milk, bring or buy one of these milk containers:

(does not come with cat)

All that aside though, Canada having an international tournament is hype as ****!
