Next are the Western New York Power Rankings

First of all, I'd like to credit KneeOfJustice (KoJ) for creating these power rankings.

Definition:

The power rankings were some what of an idea we have been tossing around for a while. Since nothing has yet come to fruition, I took it upon myself to make what should accurately reflect the Western New York metagame. A few things of note. First off, this list reflects virtually only Rochester area players. That is because currently, it is for the most part the only region in WNY that we know anything about, or have consistent results on. Until we know more about players in other areas, the list will only be able to correctly display the skill level of players in this area.

This list also only reflects how well you play in this area. You may go out of state and perform very well there, but if you can only manage to place decently some of the time here, that's all we can fairly gauge you on.

Secondly, this list attempts the most fair method at players who consistently attend tournaments. Because of this, to qualify for the rankings, you have to meet two criteria.

1) You MUST participate in at least half or more of the available events in this area. This is done for several reasons. Namely, a very good player could come in, win a tournament, have a perfect record, and never attend again for the duration of the season. In the unlikely event of this, it would not be fair for this mystery player to top the power rankings for a seasons length at the expense of players who make the effort to attend whenever possible.

This is also done, because if you participate in too few tournaments, it does not allow us to see how good or consistent you really are. You might get a very easy bracket one week, and ride it to Grand Finals for a good ratio that week, when in reality you only faced poorer players that wouldn't normally place in the top bracket. This is also to promote competition. If you aren't around often enough, it gives few players a chance to test their skills against you, as well as potentially take you down a peg.

2) Of the tournaments you attend in the season, you must have placed in the scoring group at LEAST ONCE. This one is rather obvious. If you don't place in the top, you don't receive a win ratio, and therefore, you have no actual score to go by.

On to the actual scoring. The goal is to get your score as close to "1" as possible. A player with the score of "1" would have won every tournament they had attended. Because this has not yet happened, the list is ordered by players with the best relative scores, and then in descending order.

You receive a ratio based on your placement. Because most tournaments in this area do not become excessively large, it is fair to take the top 8 participants on a weekly basis. In the event that we host a 64+ person bi-weekly, or we hold a large event in general, as separate ratio chart will need to be developed.

These are the ratios you receive based on your placing:

1st: 8/8
2nd: 7/8
3rd: 6/8
4th: 5/8
5th-6th: 4/8
7th-8th: 2/8
9th+: 0/8

You will have noticed the score of zero for those who place outside of the top. This is in case you are a regular top placer, and happen to have a bad week. Because these results need to be as accurate as possible, and demonstrate how consistent a player is, not performing to your best on a regular basis has its penalties.

How it works: If you place 4th one week, and 7th the following, you would have a score of 5/8+2/8, which would come out to 7/16. This is your earned points, over the points you had the potential to earn. Therefore, a score of 7/16 would yield a rating of 0.44.

In the event of a tie, players who participated more than the one they tied with were given the advantage. This is because those players attending more are having to constantly prove their consistency, as well as providing the opportunity to take them down, thus, jeopardizing their rating.

Without further ado, this is the current list, based on the above charts, and required criteria. [Note: Players whose names are italicized are currently inactive in

tournaments this season. Players who are inactive at the end of the season will be dropped from the rankings until next season].

1. JesiahTEG - 40/40 (1.0)
2. PikaPika! - 34/40 (.85)
SilverSpawn - 12/16 (.75)
3. Asylum - 13/24 (.54)

KoJ - 8/16 (.5)
Dom aka Tuxedo Mask - 4/8 (.5)
5. Owna - 19/40 (.4Cool
6. Goggles - 6/24 (.25)
Ranjiz - 4/16 (.25)

This is the up to date Fall Season Power Rankings. Congratulations to everyone who made it on.

This is the list of players who will become inactive should they not attend the next available tournament:

(N/A)

I understand that this may be unfair to some, and we understand that sometimes we have prior engagements of commitments that supersede attending tournaments. However, this is the only fair method to players who show up and participate regularly, and give their effort.

Also, if you had to leave a tournament due to extenuating circumstances, let me know, and I will REMOVE the score that you would receive. This will fortunately count as an attendance, so you will not be marked absent. Just remember to tell me.

Final Thoughts: I feel this is the fairest method, as it allows players a more reasonable way to rise amongst and into the ranks of talented local players, while still being able to realistically pass other players during the season. I hope this will fuel the competitive drive, as well as bringing in new players to the scene.

The next two biweeklies, the 9th and the 23th should mark the end of the summer brawl ranking as college students will be returning. I assume Arena will stick with their schedule and I will organize my tournaments along with it. Thus I assume both Arena and UR tournaments should count towards power ranking during the the school year (September through May). Should be fun as the tournaments will have larger crowds and will occur in more frequency. Not to mention most of the college players don't play outside of college much, so most of them would consider themselves in this region anyway.

Dom, we need to do better in teams

and why is pikapika placed higher than silver if they have the same score? is it because neil went to more tourneys?

and speaking of taking people down a peg, i expect to be doing that to your snake in the near future tom.

I might do it today when I get bored.

Why is pikapika placed higher than silver if they have the same score:

Quoted from KoJ

By attending more tournaments, you offer more chances for your score to go down. So by attending more, and doing well more often, you are proving that you are good and consistent more so than someone with the same score who has attended fewer events.

and speaking of taking people down a peg, i expect to be doing that to your snake in the near future tom.
Good luck with that. Your Sonic has not once beaten my Snake. I know you believe that's why my time is due, but it just proves that my skill is just slightly above yours. Also, watch out, I also main Meta Knight as well. Cockyness aside, good matches man, your fun to play against. Always a pleasure.

Asylum vs Goggles match must be recorded! My MK is hot and I've played him in the beginning too.

Snake vs Sonic should be very entertaining to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing this match. Also, Jesiah has yet to face against Asylum in tourney and I've been hosting tourneys for over 3 months for Brawl.

i mean seriously, after falco gets a person to 70 damage, and since sonic is unspikable he cant do anything but laser and back air camp

and yannick, youre not wavedashing enuff

:yoshi: -dead- @ 10lies LOL!

My wavedashing control interfere with my egg camping controls, so I'm sticking with either one or the other until I can reconcile the two. It stinks right now, I feel like I'm learning wavedashing in Melee all over again. D:

:yoshi: TML, again with your wretched lies.

I can't tell if you're trying to convince us...or yourself.

What are you talking about goggles? Everyone in our crew is better than you. You're in denial man. And if you were joking around, it's really not funny.

KID, almost everyone in our crew has beat you.

Stop playing sonic. He's garbage tier.

trust me, goggles has the capabilities to beat anyone. doesnt mean he will everytime, but he can.
gg's to all, but dont get it twisted, im going for headshots.
also....

metaknight is fruity, stop whoreing
thats directed at anyone besides silver that plays MK
We all have the capability to beat anyone, but to actually do it is another thing. I'm not saying your bad or anything like that, but until I see the headshots I will sharpen my sword for another.

Meta is not fruity. I'm a meta player for life because I liked him since kirby super star (I mean seriously a sword, wings and tornadoes = AWESOME). The people who play him just because he's good are the fruity *******s. Meta-wannabes make the cheapest whores seem like mother teresa.
