To perform this technique: jump, when ur at the same level of the platform press down, immediately let go of down and perform any attack, its easiest with C stick.
We discovered this on March 14th

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK16zTBzIQQ

This technique needs to be progressed, please provide questions feedback and ideas to help utilize this! thnk u

Has anyone been using this technique consistently??? If so can u post some videos? Candy, ChozenOne, and I r really trying to incorporate it into our game but we dont have anything on a consistent level.

Stages this works on Thanks to Leafgreen

Yoshi's Island
Lylat Cruise
Smashville
Pirate Ship
Battleship Halberd
Rainbow Cruise
Frigate Orpheon
Delfino Island (when the stage is rising or setting into the different levels)

Very interesting, good find, so this works with all characters with a moving platform?
Edit: I'm practicing this, and it looks like it could be a VERY useful technique on Smashville. Pretty hard to do, and VERY hard to do if you jump with control stick like me, but i'll make it work.

Great discovery thanks.

Can you do this out of a double jump?

Edit 2: This technique works on Pirate Ship, both platforms, seemingly all the time

This could be done in Melee, and even on stationary platforms. It was just done from above the platform rather than below, and it required that you hit your opponent.

This looks interesting... Not sure about calling it platform canceling, though. Looks more like an instant land.

So then... this couldn't be done in Melee?

If you know it's not the same thing, why even post?

Anyway, I had accidentally done this a couple of times, but didn't know what I was doing, thanks.

Its different from Melee. U dont have to click L or R to do it, u can click a smash and u'll do the smash u chose or u can do some specials. Melee u would just air dodge, u couldn't perform a smash. In the video u'll c candy do a straight smash no ducking or sheilding prior to the smash.

This look really interesting, is there any sort of limit to this like using your second jump also a lot of people are talking about how it needs to be on a moving platform but can you do this on a non moving one?

It's fundamentally the same thing. If the end result is that you hit your opponent, it works nearly the same way. In Melee, you start on top of the platform and hold down. While in the middle of the animation, do your aerial and you'll 'auto-land' back on the platform. Conceivably it could be done from below the platform, I've never tried it.

EDIT: I guess I misunderstood what the original post was trying to say. This isn't platform-canceling, it's a completely different technique. The ability to auto-land smashes and tilts is incredibly useful. Great find!

you dont need to do an attack even. if you hit down down as you go through the platform you also land. On tilted platforms you actually can slide by doing this akin to a waveland. very neat

Nice fine. The fact it can only be done on three stages puts huge limits on it, but luckily 2 of the three stages are commonly played on.

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding this technique.

All it is, is jumping through a platform and wavelanding on it, in essence. Except its even faster than a waveland and you can instantly do any attack. It only works on platforms that are classified as moving. IE: Smashville, Lylat Cruise, most of the time. Pirate ship all the time. Etc.

If I'm reading correctly, basically what you do is just press down as you're passing through a platform and you will instantly land on it with no lag whatsoever? If so, you can use this technique on stages like Delfino Plaza and Port Town Aero Dive on the main platform itself. This is extremely useful for characters like Olimar, for example if he gets under the stage and barely misses clearing the platform he can actually land on it.

That sounds like an interesting idea, i'll try it to confirm b/c i don't think it will work on Delfino unless the stage is changing, in which case the stage could be classified as a moving platform, i'll check it out

This is by far one of the the most useful things that people have discovered, right next to RAR.

Incredible find.

Now I wanna play on maps other than FD. :-p

See now, these are the types of things that are going to be found in the coming weeks.

Very exciting to see the metagame developing before our very eyes. :-D

Great find! OK, for those who want to keep playing on FD good news! You can short-hop without fast-falling to just land on your feet instantly (try it out). I know it sounds silly but look at the difference at when you short-hop without fast-falling, but then again why would you do it in the first place?

Can someone test if you can do it while moving, onto a static platform such as in battlefield?
As you seen in the video, they were jumping in place onto a moving platform.

It'd only make sense if you could do it while moving onto a static platform.

Thank You Sir! I have a string of Kirby combos that are fully fledged combos, if u can come by wednesday i can showem off and c if we can find some others.

To the questions concerning if u can run into the platform yes u can, the trick is ur character has to go through the platform.
