I actually just moved recently to SF.
Sorry I missed you. But, if you have a facebook account I highly recommend you join the group Orange County Melee. If you're in that group, you should receive invitations to events. There's a local in Mission Viejo at Southern California Pizza I've been to many times. You should definitely check that out, there are people there of varying skill levels.
