6/10/Nova/DC/MD C3 Monthly Results

Before I actually get to posting the results, and have everyone's attention....

Two PS2's are missing.

Two slim line PS2's (without the cords, b/c I found those) were not at C3 when we left on Saturday night. One had masking tape on it that said "KEV" (it was connected to the small 'tekken' tv which was switched to CvS2 and the other was connected to the 2nd big screen with 3rd strike. I have some descriptions of the people last seen playing games on those systems. I will also check the video footage from the surveillence cameras to identify who took the systems.

If by some chance, you made a mistake, and took a PS2 (without any cords or anything), please return it to either me, or C3. If they are returned, no charges will be filed, and I won't report the unique serial numbers for those PS2's as stolen.

Oh. And by the way. Those PS2's aren't C3's. Those are my responsibilty. I borrowed those PS2's to help the tourney run faster and smoother. So I have to now buy two PS2's for my own brother and my friend who were good enough to lend me theirs.

That's 110$ per PS2. I am currently unemployed and studying to get my teaching liscence, so I don't really have that kind of money.

I'm really hoping that these systems can be found, and that they were not stolen. BUt it doesn't seem likely.

Words cannot really describe how angry I am. I try to do things for the community, and **** like this happens. I had a Gamecube and several games stolen at VA mid atlantic championships, and now this.

If anyone, ANYONE, has any further information about the whereabouts of the PS2's, or who might have took them. Let me know... you do not have to be identified.

Unless the PS2's are found/returned, measures will have to be taken to compensate for their loss, which could affect venue fees and/or the Ticket to EVO event.

I will post later with actual results.

Things like this make me wonder why I even bother.

and do u even have the results to post??? once again it's the smashers lookin out for smashers, running the tourney and gettin things moving

seriously, smash players don't invite other gamers to a tourney so they can charge a venue fee and make some xtra money and then give a piss poor effort in running that tourney. so y does the SF scene constantly do it to us???

i hope you find your missing ps2's but don't come at us the way you did when looking for em

hova they were originally running the tourney, but the smashers wanted to run it themselves at least near the end of teams and i think renegade was running singles. space was only an issue this time because they added more tvs. Which imo was a plus i guess cuz the tourney woulda prolly ran a lot slower than it did today. venue fee was only 5 bux and free redbulls. And redbulls are like 3 bux so ur only really paying 2. hope no one got mad cuz i took 2 ;x so i profited. Renegade runs good tourneys unlike bootyme. Sorry to hear your losses Robin hope u find those ps2 my friend lost a copy of melee the first tourney =(.

Renegade, I feel really bad for you man but I would bet you money a smasher didn't steal any PS2s. I've personally never heard of an instance where a GC got stolen from a tourney before, so I feel like chances are a PS2 wasn't stolen by one of us.
That being said, I really hope you find them, and I don't think it would be fair to charge smashers extra venue fee or something...there are like, NO smashers that used those PS2s, and I don't think we had a responsibility to handle that equipment. If anything was wrong with the TVs or GCs we used, then that's us, but I have a feeling there wasn't anything wrong with that because Smashers are tight and all know each other, and if a smasher stole a PS2 or something, then the whole community would know about it. I don't think it was us.

Just to be clear, I'm not accusing anyone of stealing the PS2's. I would like to see them back, first and foremost. Most of the smashers were gone by the time that this happened, so it's not a SSBM player. And the two that were stil l there were Oro and Tope, b/c they were playing poker w/ me. I posted this on Tekken Zaibatsu as well, even though every tekken player was gone by 9pm. Somebody might KNOW something,

HOVA, I'm really sad that you have that opinion of the tourney. I think Meep pretty much hit the nail on the head, but let me elaborate a little more:
1. Smash had the MOST room at the tourney, with the whole section to themselves and 4 TV's... plus they were using the ENTIRE casual room. So that ending up being like 7-8 TV's for smash. In contrast, GGXX/ had 23 players, and was crowded with CvS2 (16 players) and 3S 19 players and only had 2 TV's.
2. You act like I didn't do anything, I'm not sure if you were paying attention to what I was doing. Rest assured, i put alot of effort into running all of the tournaments. Cuz I had 7 Tournaments to run, 3 to play in, brackets to create, and general admin stuff (prize money, etc). Most of the final stages of smash were running while I was computing the prize payouts for 8 different tournaments.

3. Yes, I have full results to post. But they are in my car, and I didn't feel like writing them up at 7am when I got home. I still haven't felt like getting them at 2pm, when I woke up. I will post them in an hour or so.

That being said, thanks to Tope, Kirbstir, G-reg, and whomever else helped the tourney run smoothly.

oh yeah, I just wanna say renegade that I still really enjoyed that tourney, and will most likely be at the next one.

Results thread is up, but to address one issue, yeah, it was crowded, yeah, we had good turnouts for GGXX/ (with the #1 US player in attendence), 3S, CvS2 (gasp!), and some marvel.

I tried a new layout to fit more TV's to be used. And honestly, it worked. Last month, we had the 2 big screens, 3 TV's for smash (or so), and about 2 TV's for other games. This month, we added about 5 more stations total. So that takes up some room, but makes for a smoother tournament.

As far as the seeds go: With the exception of Fleur, all top 8 placers were seeded and separated. Placers #1 to 4 were seeded top four. Honestly, I put chillen and KM #1 and 2 based on past performances at my tournaments. Azen hadn't been to a tourney of mine, and I heard he and Husband were good, so on recommendations I seeded them 3 and 4. I didn't really know that Azen was that extremely good. My bad.
1. Maybe Fleur shouldn't have faced chillen 2nd round.
2. I realize that I created a "bracket of death" in that in the 2nd round in one fourth of the bracket, it was Kirbster vs AHO, and Azen vs Oro. But looking at the other matches in that round, Chillen v Fleur, Kaiser v Tope, Husband v Fonz, Eddie v Meep, GReg v KC, Doll v Km... no one got off "easy", and there was no other place those players could go. The "problem" is that this area's SSBM community is too good. :-D

Hahaha i just get my name, not my handle. Oh well, first tourney, least I won two matches! Kirbstir pwnt me a good one- team arlington, you guys are good. I brought a cube, it was set up on the main smash tv... if it'd been stolen, i'd have been pissed. Renegade, sorry to hear about the ps2's being stolen. Anyway I had a great time playing, see y'all next time!

[edit] also, meep's 87dmg iceclimber chainthrow was rediculous... and he did it for 3 lives! that guy is just dank. oh well- only way to get better is to play with those guys. We almost had you vist and aero!

my first tourney as well.. i was Kors (supposed to be Korz). Anyways, it was great to see and play against some of the best smashers in the US. I know I am pretty horrible but it was an amazing experience to watch those intense high skill matches. And like Majin said, only way to get better is to go and play with those guys.. and watch. Thanks for the fun and I'll be there next time.
