When I think of Nintendo, I think of bright colors and a cartoon-style feel. Not this time around. I was very pleased with the screenshots, the enviornments are incredible! Though the characters themself still have that "Nintendo feel" to them, they look magnificent in their surroundings. I can almost say they clash, but in the best way possible.

Is it just me, or does the look of the game almost remind you of Soul Caliber? With that being said, it makes me even more excited about this title.

Well this news is worth the vets' returning.

Anyway to adress the topic at hand. Yeah, That platform was beautiful and seemingly universal. The broken Roman columns, the sunlit meadow and everything. It just works.

I can see where you're coming from with the Soul Calibur thing. But the similarity in my opinion ends with the environments.

This game has a much more serious feel to it compared to the first. It gives it a lot more flavor.

Wow Kereokacola.. long long time

The only character that seemed to have a realistic makeover is link

Lt. Killjoy

Yeah, it seemed like they did slight touch up work on the others, but it didn't even look like Kirby changed at all. I'd say Link got the big makeover. I wonder if it will be that way for Zelda and Gannon too then.

At least Pikachu doesn't look like the fatachu they've given us in the past 2 smashes...........

That was hilarious when Link and Mario dramatically changed with a special little noise, and then Kirby and Pikachu barely did anything.

Yeah. Kirby wasn't much of a change.

I was blown away by the movie though. In fact, Nintendo's whole Wii presentations blew me away. I was expecting graphics that were bad in comparison to those of the 360's, but to be honest the graphics of Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Brawl blew me away! Now here's to crossing my fingers that Luigi will come back!

I feel like writing again... I've been so excited all day about Nintendo's E3 booth (floored the competition in my opinion) that I have that urge...

Well what do you expect? We vets have a reason to return!

The new Smash! I'm licking my lips just thinking about it.

That being said, did anybody else notice the 3D-esque aura of that one castle stage the characters were fighting on? The towers seemed to block view.

Kereokacola! I was a mod at your board WAAAAAAY back in the day with MikeLarkenson, haha, weird to see you again. Looks like a few vets are making a return...

And to keep with the topic, I love the new/more realistic (for Nintendo at least) look. SSB64 had it's own feel to it, SSBM had it's own feel to it. This one will too, that's not a bad thing...

that stage that seemed to be a Zelda:Twilight Princess stage had AMAZING detail in the background with rolling hills lined with trees, and there was lots of background action going on in the distance. Definately a much more dark and serious tone. Lovin it. I am willing to wait a full year and a half for this game, and hell, if the big N and the team do as they often do in delaying it till early 08, i'd still ****ing wait. I know the finished product will be nothing short of utter perfection

I would actually hate to wait that long and would prefer an unfinished product XD.

Well, according to the official site, they wanted to give this game a 'new feel'... the main theme is a good indication of that.

It feels more epic, more intense... less bouncy and lighthearted and sweeping, more like they're getting ready to go to war.

After further consideration. I finally realized the similarities.

Looking at Pit in the video, he has both similarities to Talim and Yoshimitsu. With his double armed, underhand blade style, and the helicopter spin.

Then seeing ZS Samus with her sword-whip...kinda reminds me of Ivy.

Well, looks like Nintendo has resorted to stealing external ideas. But whatever, at least Metaknight's all original...[so far]

That's not a very bright thing to say... because you know just as well as I do, if you had an unfinished product, you would get past the hype and finally realize you would have rather waited for a polished, and worthwhile game.

I love the tone that this game is giving off. It no longer gives that happy party game look/feel to it. It feels much darker. Throughout most of the trailer I got the constant feel that the characters sole mission was to kill everyone else. I'm loving that feeling.

Am I the only one who kinda like the party fun-time feel of the past two Smash's? I missed the character intros and confetti of the first.

Given that the whole concept itself (a bunch of Nintendo characters from different worlds of varying tones) is pretty ridiculous, it would probably look a little wierd if Nintendo suddenly took the whole thing a lot more seriously.

Fortunately, I think they struck the right tongue-in-cheek type feel throughout the whole trailer and here's hoping that they maintain it.

To keep a continuation of games to work, you have to have a little change and take risks. The risks and the change they made is wonderful and I'm all for it.

I don't understand this pessimism.

Nintendo hasn't fundamentally changed anything, all they've done is give the game a graphical upgrade.

Kereokacola

To an extent, they have made changes. The game definetly has a darker tone to it.

I love the darker tone and the epic music. I hope they keep it. The added intensity and the insane backgrounds wil make the matches more enjoyable to watch, so losers in FFA will complain less when waiting. Plus it'll make the match seem more important so I feel better when I win.

And they have taken a risk of inviting in 3rd party characters. Now thats just ridiculous...In a good way O.o

Kereokacola

Also, in some aspect, the characters are more noticeable. The bright stage colors in Melee kind of blended in with the characters, and sometimes friends I would play the game with would lose track of who they were.

I'm not saying the darker-toned stages will change that... but it helps. The characters are definetly more distinguisable.
