is it illegal to make/upload videos to the web with a song in them? When is it illegal and when is it not? Thanks

To my knowledge, it is only illegal if you actually sell the video in one form or another. Regardless of whether you sell it or not though, it's still always common courtesy to list whatever songs you used in the credits.

Even if it is illegal, no one is going to prosecute you for it, it's good publicity because typically people think "what's that song?" and look it up. Assuming it's in the credits, you should feel like you've done a good thing. The most that could happen is you'll get a warning telling you to take it down for whatever reason.

Basically, I think it is technically copyright infringement, but you are in no real danger of being prosecuted and I don't see how it can hurt the artist. Since you aren't making a profit from the video and it is seen by a very small audience, the artist of the song and the RIAA have much bigger problems to worry about. Like Omnigamer said, giving credit to the artist is courteous and helpful. Also, like Pinilla said, the worst they would logically do is ask you to take it down. So don't worry about it. Just don't upload music in MP3 format. :)

ya...if your making money off of it you cannot in any way. if it is for somthing like this its ok as long as, i think, you have to OWN the song/cd the song came on.
gl with your vid though.
it may be better for you if your worried to ake the music your self, or goe someone to to it. i use fl5 my self and i'm ok with it... i'd be happy to help out though =)
