In accordance to the rules of this forum i will list the hardware that i think that you guys need to help me most. I have a simple VCR, a Radeon 9600 card, and a camcorder (i cannot find it right now, but if you need the brand name and the model then i will look for it harder).

Ok with that out of the way my question is:
What hardware would i need to get a VHS tape to a format that a computer can read and use? Please and thank you for any help that is given.

P.S. I searched this forum for any info on this and i couldn't find anything that was specific to my question. If there is a thread however that i may have missed feel free to forward me to that thread.

I'm going to repeat a reply I made today to a similar post:

----------------
Ok are you looking to record the TV screen with the camera where you get the sounds and everything or just to record the match through the VCR and just get the game sounds? The former is pretty straightforward, the latter you would have to have the GameCube hooked up through the VCR through Video In, and then hook the camera up to the VCR via Video Out. The VCR acts as a middleman in a way. To get my camcorder to record off an external device I had to open the LCD screen and press two buttons that had the record symbol instead of pressing the regular record button to tape that is at the back, so see which one works for you. Once you get the footage on the Mini-DV then you should be good to go from there.
----------------

Now to get the Mini-DV footage to the computer, you would probably have to get a good quality FireWire cable that will hook up your Camcorder to a IEEE 1394 port on your computer (FireWire). I'll warn you, they aren't cheap. However I did get a pretty high quality Monster cable at the Sony store so perhaps I may have overpaid but oh well. Once you have your camcorder hooked up to your computer through FireWire (USB may work too I'm not sure), you can just simply go into Windows Movie Maker and capture the video right to your computer in .WMV format if you choose. Hope that helps.
