New Doc Tactic???

Ok, I was just training, practice my edge gaurding a bit, and I think I may have found a new tactic for Doc with edge gaurding. I (Doc) was playing a Lvl 1 Fox on FD. I F-Smashed Fox from the left side of FD across the level. I ran across the map and was about to use my cape to turn in mid-air to plant the Bair... I did something unsuspecting... I threw a pill behind me and lost no momentum and went straight into Fox, then recovered. I tried it a few mor times. and got it down pretty good. So basically if you havent exactly understood what I said, instead of using the Cape to do a 180 to a Bair, I did a Pill to a Bair. Ive never seen this before, and Im pretty sure Ive never seen this in any videos... It surprised the hell outta me, and I just wanna know if this has been known, or if Ive discovered something new.


To do this, it is very simple, but timing is the key. As you're in the air, press the joystick in the opposite direction your facing then release, but almost immediately you must press B. Ill experiment with this more and give a further update.

The point is though, you dont loose any momentum with the pill... The Cape really takes away your momentum, and can be hard to time sometimes. The Pill way though, you dont stop, yea you have to wait for the Pill animetion to be over, but your still moving quickly.

Yes, this is known, at least to me. The direction a projectile faces is the direction of the last input. Gea's right I don't think this is a move that doc can take advantage of. Either one yields the same outcome.
And a sex kick may work better here as long as you have enough room to recover.

Interesting way to turn around. The pill takes longer but it could be used to shorten the range fox or falco to choose from with their up b, just because he will be closer.

I agree with the sex kick comment. If its high up and you have the time, why bair when you can get a safer kill with a strong sexkick?

Pfffft, the answer's obvious. B/c you want to look flashy, of course. Looking flashy will intimidate the other player.

Yea, I experimented a little bit, and did it easily with Ice Climbers, which now I have picked up and am training with. I just think its a pretty cool thing to do, looks hella sweet if pulled off with a bair as an edge gaurd.

With the ICs there are far cooler edgeguards, all of which include desyncing.

in addition to being well known and flashy, there are sometimes advantages. suppose you pill and the pill deflects off the stage into your opponent... your oponent will most likely die. its a good recovery impediment, in addition to being a good mindgame if u mix it up wit the cape or if u learn how to properly angle the pills.

oh, and crash, he means missle cancelling, or he is talking about reverse charge shots, both of which are common mindgames and effective tactics among samus players.

If you read he put shorthop blast not BLASTER.It could mean any attack which involes a projectile...mostly ChargeShot.Pwn3d yourself n00b(sarcasm)

You can do that with every character's neutral B move in the air.

The problem with this is that it will take aim to drop the pill...
I like to do it when they are just off the level...so taht if I want, I can do something to them right after...but thats only if they grab on, like cape them backwards, cause I don't have good aim yet, but yeah...I do like the idea :p

I think many of you misread what I was describing. I wasnt using the pill to edge gaurd, I wqas using a bair. Instead of using the cape to turn around in mid-air and then using the bair, I used a pill to turn around in mid-air, then followed with a bair before attempting to recover. Id make a video of it, but I dont have a capture card.

well..i know what ur talking about. and i use it occasionally, too. Seems like using the cape is prefered, but if you could revere SH pill perfectly at the right time, and land at the edge, the momentum would allow you to land in the edge hog position, but thats hella-difficult, lol.

usually its reverse cape to edgehog for me, or reverse pill to B.air.

Couldn't you just wavedash backwards? Wouldn't that be a hell of a lot simpler, and faster?

Yes, If you crouch cancel your dash, turn around and wavedash backwards, then by all means use that to edge hog.

But he is talking about an edge gaurd with bair while running, which can be done with anyone, and is the fastest with a pill for doc.
