Hi, I'm fairly new to the world of editing and production. I'm just starting to get my feet wet and it appears that my computer isn't up to snuff. I'm currently running a 1.3Ghz AMD Athlon processor and 192MB of RAM. Now, I know that is too slow for most capture cards... My question is, would I be better off just working with what I have now, or should I upgrade my system to something faster? If an upgrade is in order, what would be acceptable as far as being able to produce a high quality vid? I have some big ideas in store as far as smash videos are concerned, and I want to be able to create something as close to that ideal as possible.

So, if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as what I'll need and how much it will cost, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A good idea would be to upgrade your processor to an AMD 64, seeing how it has a better over-all preformance compared to Pentium 4. The faster the processor and more memory you have, the easier it will be to get vids up and running on your comp. Also, when you have your system open (If you are planning on doing this yourslef) Try to gently clean the dust out of any cracks. Check your hardrive aswell, as dust builds up inside which causes friction. Be careful not to drop anything inside. Something as much as a screw can greatly screw up your comp... Lol, screw.. screw... Anyways... Consult someone at a Future-Shop or Best Buy to learn more about video capturing.

I hope this helps.
