This might just be my problem but when i try to SH Fair near the edge of the stage and I go off, its like Doc has to complete like three full flips before he can try to save himself. Is there anyway the rcovery can be sped up?

Don't short hop. That's your problem of course there's always your downB to help a little bit vertically.
Unless your hit I don't think you can speed up this process.
Don't use it as a KO? It's really dangerous.

um...you shouldn'y be doing this so far off the stage where your SD'ing. just practice staying on the edge of the stage and shuffling it staright up and down.

You can short hop it off the edge. You just can't miss the jump nor can you fastfall it. But in general its a bad move to use off the edge. Use Doc's bair instead.

I used to make that same mistake. The way I fixed this problem was to make sure I didn't double jump before doing the attack, I'd save my second jump for recovering. Also, anticipate and let off the attack early.

Seems like too risky of a move to be trying anyway, when you have the B-Air and the Pills there to disrupt recoveries while putting yourself at little risk for getting hit, and eventually dying cause of Doc's horrible recovery skills. I've always considered the F-Air a central field technique just because it takes awhile to pull out of falling into the void in many stages.

Too risky? Maybe if you don't main mario. If you do though, it's an incredible addition to your arsonal. A safer alternative would be the back air off the edge as well.

well with mario as a final ko and even with doc fair can work as long as pilled- fireballed beforehand with correct timing and sufficient damage done already.... also.... a technique i've been working on is just plain running off the stage without using any jumps.... then while maintaining a reletively short distance from the stage use the first jump to execute the edgegaurd move.... the go back to the stage.... it works well with captain falcon but probably shouldn't be regularly tried with mario and doc unless the circumstances are right.... bair is sufficient....

rofl since when is fair used as an edge guard?
fair is for KO's and a very small set of combos. (chaining them against certain characters, up/down throw to fair)
if you must fair off the edge, make sure you are doing it right after you jump, so that the move is finished by the time you lose a lot of altitude. probably obvious for most of u
I say just dont use it off the cliff. Practice it with other moves and see where it comes in best.

I use Docs F-air similarly, but, I shffl the F-air far enough away from the edge so that the lil "wooosh" sound that you hear whenever it would hit/miss occurs with his fist slightly past the edge/over the edge (not parallel or under it). Its hitbox extends below the stage, which can totally rock the fox/falcos who sweetspot their phantasm/illusions. It also works against Yoshi's, Ness's, and even a Marth who hangs on the edge too long. You just have to space it right, and if you don't leave the stage- it isn't a risky move at all.

Fairs should not be done to edgeguard. I admit, its really sweet and nasty if you KO someone liKE that, but youll probabbly miss and fall of to SD. I reccomend Fairs only in the center of the stage or at the end but not when you go off the stage.
Bairs are excellent for edgeguarding and the Super Sheet absolutley rapes Fox's Firefox. :)
