View Full Version : Help with a turtle w/Roy

I have a friend who plays Samus and I just can't kill him with Roy. He turtles like nobody's business and I just can't get through it. I can kill him with almost any other char, he's not that good but I just can't find an anti-turtle tactic that works with Roy.

Basically he charges up his gun (lame I know) and then just starts tilting in my direction until he gets me caught up in it and then smashes or shoots me. The problem is he thinks he has longer reach that he does so he starts swinging early and with any of my other chars I just start shooting him with things but with Roy I have to try and get through this wall of Crouch Canceling/tilting madness.

Any tips?

Grab stops CC'ing. Start your combo's with grabs rather than attacks if he CC's a lot.

Sounds like his playing style is pretty predictable. Maybe even use counter..? Then combo him, using whatever Roy combos with.

The player's a guy. The grabbing is a good idea but I can't get close enough to him with all Samus's legs flying everywhere. Using counter sounds kinda janky but I could try it.

Hey there Travesty, I have the same exact problem as you. I still cannot beat my friend who plays Samus/Peach and just spams a wall of projectiles and tilt kicks or dash attacks. That bastid is prolly reading this now but oh well. What I found semi-effective was jumping in over the projectiles and usuaing an aerial making sure to lcancel, that part is key, and follow up with combos. However, I can't lcancel for beans, so I can't really keep it consitent and apply pressure. But once u get inside, keep applying that pressure, and it'll prolly get to him.

However, there's another aspect... what happens usually is that right after the projectiles are shot, Samus usually goes into the air and does a sex kick or Nair. That's the part where I'm stuck. I know a counter would seem appropriate, but most of the time it just doesn't cut it because Samus can usually recover and manage a second Nair.

I can easily beat other characters without annoying projectiles, but yeah, that wall of shyte is so annoying. I think what would be key is either patience to draw them in. Then once, they're within range, unleash combos like hell.

This 'turtle' style of part is what I think is the most annoying style of play, no offense to users of this style. I admit, I had to stoop down low and play turtle as well...

Is it not possible to (as someone just said) just shorthop and use a fair or nair over his tilts and then follow up so he not get the time to continoue his "strategy"?

Get her in the air and keep her there, if she attacks early then counter, not then just up tilt or jump up air. if possible do neutral air, it has better knock back. And abuse edgaurding with the tip of downsmash.

If they just sit there and it is a non timed match, just sit back counter the charge shot and constantly insult their mother, most likely they will be either a) ifuriated and attempt to strangle/bash you with their controller or b) get very irritated very quickly and make a hasty charge.=)
