Welcome all to the new “Videography” forum.

The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for video-making newcomers and experienced editors alike to come together and help to improve one another’s skills, and eventually improving the total quality of the videos being produced by the Smash Bros. community. The idea is that those planning to make a smash-related video can post a thread here stating the purpose and idea behind the video, and can pull in creative insight from other users on editing/recording techniques and scenes. Also, this will allow joint productions to be organized more easily, providing a central place for people to post progress updates and new ideas. Finally, this is also the place to go in order to find general capture or editing help. This includes help with equipment, programs, etc.

But of course a few simple rules need to be followed:

1. Requests can be made in this forum, provided that they have a solid base idea. This means:
Request threads need to have a clear, and preferably unique, idea for a new video in the first post
“Make a Roy vs Marth vid” is not going to cut it
“Make a Pichu combo vid” will also not qualify, unless the poster already has some specific aspects in mind. Prime aspects include specific users to find/make footage of, ideas for music, and other unique traits of the future video
Do not request already existing videos

2. If you are going to ask a specific hardware question, be sure to give the general specs of the equipment available to you.
For example, asking, “how do I get footage from my VCR to the computer”, does not clue anybody else in to what tools you have available to you. “I have a Brand X camcorder with direct line in capabilities, a Dazzle video card, and a VCR. What would be the best way to transfer footage from VHS to my computer?” would be much more acceptable.

3.The majority of the video projects should be related to smash in one way or another, but are not required to be so. HOWEVER:
If you start a non-smash related video, do not make a new thread for the finished product anywhere in this room or any of the other Video Discussion rooms. The purpose of this forum still remains to improve the overall skills of the makers, which can be done through other videos as well.
Overly graphic, violent, or pornographic video projects or posts will automatically be closed and the users reviewed for a ban.

4. As with the rest of the forum, general courtiousness is expected from every user. Some specific things to watch for:
Keep criticism constructive. Just replying with negative comments on somebody’s work or idea helps nobody and will probably lead to a pointless argument.
If somebody takes on a video project or idea for you, do not hassle him/her to finish it faster or expect the impossible from him/her. They are doing you a service, using their own free time, resources, and creativity to make something for you. This also goes for asking for a video to be released sooner even if you have no stake in it. Just be patient, and it'll get finished eventually.
Bragging/showing off helps nobody. Not everybody will be at the same level of skill, so be mindful of this fact and refrain from commenting just to assert superiority over another user.
If you provide an idea to a project, do not insist that it be used. Everybody has their own ideas on things, so do not force your opinions on somebody else just because you feel that it would be better. Advice should stay just as that: advice. It’s up to the maker(s) how the final video will come out, not the spectators.

In addition to these rules, all of the Global Rules (http://www.smashboards.com/announcement.php?f=10&announcementid=41) still apply.
