View Full Version : Wavedashing and the good Doctor

I've finally decided to stop my old-fashioned gameplay and get up to date on these new confounded strategies (aka exploits of the physics engine) you kids play with today. As I'm getting the hang of wavedashing the first question which comes to mind is: why?
Besides the occasional backwards dash off the stage to edge hang, I see very little utility with Doc and wavedashing. What are all of your wavedashing techniques? I'm still very clumsy at it so perhaps I'm just missing something.
To finish things off, I'm going to use a smiley nobody ever uses :lick:

The truth is, wave dashing isn't meant to be practical in terms of your character, it's meant to confuse the opponent. It's useless against CPUs, but then again, who needs adv. moves against CPUs?

ummm, no. wavedashing is very practical with many characters (especially doc), and nobody will be confused by seeing it...it's been around forever. it is assumed now that every good player can wavedash. it's purpose lies in spacing attacks as well as fake outs(if that's what you meant by confusing an opponent.) it's not even very hard to do.
use the search button by the way...you'll get like 2 billion hits on wavedashing

What's wavedashing used for w/Doc?
Edgehogging, wavesmashing, SHABAWD (Short Hop Aerial Back Aerial Wave Dash), spacing, ledgedashing (wavedash onto the stage from an edgehogging state), mobility on ground and on platforms, out-of-shield wavedashing (good for defensive approaches against opponents w/range or projectiles), wavelanding/landdashing (airdoding right before you land into a landing wavedash and give you good air-to-ground mobility), evasion, and mindgames.
Watching a very large quantity of smash vids might be helpful, as it'll show instances in which wavedashing is used.
