View Full Version : Doc's Up+B Cancel, How do you do it?
Doc's Up+B Cancel. I've read that you just press the opposite direction that you press for up+b, but I've tried holding down. Do I have to press it with a right or left so the opposite will be down +left or right? also how many posts do you need to get a custom avatar?

I'm assuming you know how to angle the B-up, right? I'll explain anyway.
If you hold the control stick half way between northeast and north and then press B, Doc will do his B-up but with a 45 degree angle. You need to do this and then IMMEDIATLY press left on the control stick. Try it in 1/4 speed first, then work your way up from there.

You need to perform doc's up-b, and within i believe three frames, push down. You should hear the noise and see doc kind of spin and crouch. If it hits an opponent, you should see coins. this method makes it easier to do it out of your shield. Do it in training mode at reduced speeds.
Ok, Thanx, I got it but is it possible to do it in air?(like jump then do it)

1. In order to get a custom avatar you need to donate money.
2. How useful exactly is this? I find it to be like his sex kick: Different and cool, but not very useful. Can someone point out some good uses for this as opposed to doing the whole thing. I guess it would make a nice fast attack out of a shield, but is it better than shield grabbing?

Here's the total complete info, taken from my post in another upB cancel topic:
Frame 2: anywhere but full back
Frame 3: forward (diagonals work)
Frame 4: back (diagonals work)
Dr. Mario will end up facing back
OR
Frame 2: anywhere but full forward
Frame 3: back (diagonals work)
Frame 4: anywhere but back,
diagonals included (upback, downback)
Since the attack hits on frame 3, you have more time to move the stick if the attack hits something and causes hitlag. It has 3 frames of hitlag, so you'd have 4 frames to move the stick to where it needs to be.

I have a quick question bout this...
Couldn't this help Doc get back to the ledge just about Ten times better than he can already....I mean 2 up+B's...that would get Doc right up on the ledge!

If I understand correctly, the upB cancel doesnt go anywhere. and I dunno about performing it in the air...

Flip 1 anytime a charcter uses an upb (except for yoshi) they are not able to jump anymore. Meaning it is impossible to perform two upb's with doc in the air without touching the ground first(for all you technical people).

Is it called UpB cancel when i face him and hit him once with the first coin and instead of keep going in the direction i angled to, i turned around and kept going up to the other side?

No, that'd be turning around. If you do this correctly doc won't actually leave the ground.

It is helpful to perform this if your close enough to the edge, like really close, so you can make it on top of the level, instead of making it, but drifting downwards. No lag time.

i pull it off about 80% the time i
its called an upB CANCEL for reason, u don't move at all.(for people still not understanding). It does Not work in the air.
The properties of this hit is unique in that no matter what % they are at, they will always fly be lifted the exact same distance(variable on DI, of course).
So if they're at 0%...or 999%..it will send them the same height.
Uses of this technique could be jump-canceling it out of your shield to counter attack, whereas a grab might not be plausible.
Or combowise. It puts falco at a perfect height for a F.air(before he can recover from the stun), unless he managed to DI the hit(which is should be pretty rare, since it is extremely fast). It can be combo from easily after a D.air.
Personally..i don't use it in battle. But i practice it against CPUs occasionally.
...Rumor has it, BobMoney will be using it in Evolution ;)

i can only do it in 1/4th speed. oh yea...."the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese."

I explain this and visually perform the Up+B cancel in my video "THE DOCTOR'S CHECKUP". You should watch that it should answer your questions.

Yea sure man I've got a few tips for you.
1.) Only perform it when you have an opponent to do it on. In my opinion I think that when the opponent is near their presence allows you to hit them easier as opposed to when they're not near. It is probably just all psychological because it's either hit the Up+B cancel, or get punished.
2.) You might be doing it wrong. Remember, you hit the exact opposite direction of way you performed the Up+B cancel. For ex. if you hit the Up+B Upwards and to the right, in order to cancel it, you're going to want to hit downwards and to the left within 4 frames after the Up+B. If done correctly, you should be facing leftwards on the ground.
3.) Practice it in training mode 1/4 speed and bring the camera close so you can see what it looks like. Once you see how it looks like, go to regular speed and try and perform it. You'll eventually get it, trust me.
