I've been playing with Roy for years, but so has my brother scott. Scott is good with fox and he is always jumping around, it is a pain! I just learned to shield block his d-air or f-air moves while i'm on the ground then shield grab, but I just need some good tactics against an ariel fox. Any help would be appreaciated :)

if you can shieldgrab him, upthrow to forward smash or the over B combo is a good start. or another upthrow if you're good at it.

What is the best or a few of the best over b combos to do against him?

Actually this match-up isn't all that bad (unless the Fox is really good and l-cancels all aerials into shines.) especially when you said that you could shield grab him. like DA_RAIN said, u-throw into f-smash works well against fox. As for the sword dance combos, if the fox is shielding us the down attack on the fourth hit to try and hit a hole in hisnshield, if he's above you or on a platform go with the up on the fourth hit. This has considerable range. Another good thing to keep in mind is you d-tilt. Whenever you see a good opprotunity, space yourself correctly and start d-tilting. It should pop fox up perfectly for Roy's f-smash sweet spot. When the fox is recovering, neutral B is your safest bet. Unless the fox sweet spots the edge, you should be able to keep knocking him off. Just try not to fight him in the air, Roy's mainly a ground based character, anf fox has a pretty good air game. Crouch cancel some of his ground attacks and return with f-smashes,

Until like 15% (give or take a few % I haven't yet tested the exact amount or exact possible range) Fox can escape, if he DIs behind Roy. If he DIs forward Roy can CG him for a long long time and if Fox doesn't DI Roys like Azen will shuffle Uair + grab me again so just DI behind Roy at ALL times. After you get Fox to around 15ish % then forward smash I think is best.

Ask Neo.

Thanks for the advice, AzN_Lep. But I disagree about one thing. You said (I would put a quote box if I could find out how) " When the fox is recovering, neutral B is your safest bet." I disagree with that. I usually wait untill he lands, then do a f-smash and repeat untill he is KOed. It works for me. He also uses the crouch cancel on me then gets in a f-smash usually. Or he uses his d-tilt to pop me up in the air and start juggling me. He is really fast so it is hard to get out of it.

I see the quote button now! I guess that was a stupid question.

I think you have the right idea with what your doing. If he isnt going to L-cancel his air attacks you might as well just shield grab him. I dont like to risk combos against a good fox, just try to dumb down the game for them and predict his moves.

and if Fox doesn't DI Roys like Azen will shuffle Uair + grab me again so just DI behind Roy at ALL times.

You can chain grab Fox if he DIs backwards. I can swear I've done it before >_< maybe it's the me remembering things that didn't happen again. I could've sworn you could though.

I learned most of my Roy shytz from Neo. The Neutral B to Forward Smash is my shyt though, ROFLFMAO!

You can keep DIing behind, but Roy can still chain grab for until 60 I think. Neo knows!

Neo, come over.

at like 15-30% or something around 20s and 15s or so, it's hard to dash + JC-grab backwards if Fox DIs that way, so I would do a forward smash after 15% if they DI back. After that you get them to like 35% or something then I'd CG them for a while and if they are out of reach of forward smash you could always dash in with a Shuffled Fair tippered so it stuns them before landing but knocks them hardly anywhere then grab again. In theory this sounds like it should work I'd have to test it though. If not you could always just dash + forward B B B them which does like 15-20% or something I think and can easily be done out of a dash whenever you want unlike forward smash.

How do you jump grab? Heard that has a longer range than a regular grab.

While dashing press X or Y and before you leave the ground press z. THe jump will cancel will run and you will do a standing grab from a run. It's really easy and helpful plus it's not as laggy.

Okay new strat Roy vs space animals

at 0%, grab, forward throw, grab again, up throw once or twice with a hit in between if you want, then up throw + down smash whichever way they DI (down smash = 21% uncharged). They should be in mid 30%s.

After that, next CG set just CG them with up throw and if they DI backwards until like I think around 60ish % or so they get out before you do with back DI. If they DI not at all, or upward (or forward at certain % ranges) then you can shuffle Uair + grab again, or at higher %ages shuffle Uair + forward smash.

As the Roy CGer, watch out for Fox DIing behind you, because you have to react FAST to get him that way. Forward and up are easier to react to so always have your reflexes set to expecting the hardest one to follow up on (backwards DI) then the CG game should be a lot easier overall.

I'm having trouble, no matter how hard i try, to continue the CG when fox DI's behind me. It seems like no matter how fast i move I can't get there in time. any suggestions?
1. Be faster
2. Fsmash instead
3. DED forward > up > forward instead

Nope, not besides just pressing it at the right time. You might try the Fox Trot and the SDG, if you're not doing that already.
