View Full Version : What's the best way to edgeguard Yoshi with Roy?

I just thought that since he has that ridiculous knockback resistant second jump, it'd be a bit different and perhaps trickier. Figuring since Roy is mostly about gimping his opponents quick, Yoshi would be a bit different in that department.
So how do you counter a good Yoshi?

If you hit them with a flare blare, fair, nair when they have a mid high %, around like 70, it cancels their second jump

Unfortunately a jumping flare blade does not negate his second jump, as I've tried it several times at high percent. I did think that fire moves cancelled jumps and CC, but not in Yoshi's case (2nd jump, not CC) evidently.

Hmm wierd. Swear thats what I did. Maybe yours was a tapped b. I help mine down for like 1 sec or so in the air.

Due to the lack of replies, I'm going to go ahead and assume that no one knows a decent counter to Yoshi's recovery.

guess it just isnt a situation many have encountered. I would try to Bair offstage to cancel the jump. Obviously if he tries to sweetspot, egdehog.

You need to remember that yoshi is tough for swrods due to this and his CC.

I suppose if the Yoshi can't be effectively edgeguarded against to knock him off the stage, camp the spot where he's most likely to land, and charge an attack there. If you can't kill him, do ridiculous amounts of damage, or set up for an attack to knock him back off when he's L-cancelling [or when he's supposed to] the jump. Only a theory, but larger damage levels = easier kills.

marth owns roy...i had no clue you could cancel jumps with moves I've noticed it but I didn't think it could be done on purpose hmm guess so

I don't get WHAT the hell you're trying to say, but if I had to take a guess, you're trying to say that you have nothing relevant to add to this thread by telling us about your opinions on Marth owning Roy and your ignorance on the subject of simple L-Cancelling. Thank you, ten_point_five, for giving Smash n00bs a bad name. Maybe you should learn to read the threads that are posted on simple techniques, or write using proper grammar so that we can all understand your meaninglessness. Sorry to pick on you, but I just get angry when people feel they're helping by saying random stuff. Also, just to contribute to the topic at hand, if you do more damage to the said Yoshi when they're trying to recover, knocking them off again WILL be that much easier. There, I'm not spamming.

Edit: Ok, I did spam, and was stupid for believing I wasn't. If I could delete this post I would, but I can't. I hate being wrong and spamming. And being called a n00b and deserving it. I apologize to the mods... I have a tendency to piss off mods wherever I go, and I'm trying to not do it here.

chopstix, while your point is a good one, dont be such a noob about it. It is easier to ignore pointless pposts than to respond. You are not a mod. You are spamming. Granted, I am as well, but I dont care

I have used roy for most of the time I play SSBM and I have always edgegaurded by standing back a bit from the edge then waiting for the opponent to get up then do a fsmash. I'm new to this so tell me if you think this is a bad idea.

If I had to make a guess (Someone who lives near me is a good Yoshi Player.) The best option would be, instead of edgeguarding, back off a bit and predict where he's going to land. Once he starts to, then attack him. But that's exceptionally tricky.

Flare Blade/fsmash. That's pretty much it. Especially if they use forward-b to land back on the stage.

They usually airdodge onto the edge, so dont get tricked. Fake an attack, then after they airdodge, fsmash them.

wait for him then F-smash, or meteor him with D-air when the jump is done
