Queensland Smash Thread

Welcome!

The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest in, and organise, a Super Smash Bros Melee Tournament held in QLD, Australia.

The obvious choice for location in terms of city is Brisbane or Gold Coast, seeing as most of you guys live there. I would more than happily organise the whole thing, but unfortunately I don't live in Brisbane. I will however, help in every way I can.

But first things first, who's keen?

If you are seriously interested in attending a tournament or even a social gathering in the name of Smash, please reply with "Gimme yo' hot stuff mama, that's the way I like it!" or "Yeah, I'm keen" and we'll go from there.

Aight Dude, Im all up for a tourney. But I doubt that we can get numbers, even if some of the southern smashers make it up.

Brisbane is the obvious choice, maybe the gold coast since they have a decent crew there.

I was thinking that we should just have some big casual tourney/barbeque/ maybe a pub crawl for the 18 + sort of thing so that all the QLDers can just get to know each other and smash. I'm more than happy to have it at my house. But if you can organise something better, or we do get numbers for a tourney then im more than happy for that to happen.

Now i have to call NESSBOUNDER adn convince him to come out of retirment for this.

So who are the QLD smashers? all i can think of are

Im well aware that QLD isn't smash central, so what you suggested sounds great.

I guess all we have to do is sort out a date that works for you, and i'll sort my stuff out.

I have a couple friends in brisbane so don't worry about having babysit me or anything if you have stuff to do on a daily basis. Im happy to hit arcades and such, Townsville has 1 arcade and Daytona 1 is the best game it has. So any arcade that isnt that one is like ****ing Disney Land to me.

Im not entirely concerned about an actual tourny, it would just be cool to get away from Townsville, meet some other Smashers and see some of my before mentioned friends.

Yeah, sorry I forgot how young some of you guys are. It should work out fine though, when its your bedtime me and kaydash will tuck you in then head out to the city. Seriously though, the brisbane public transport is really good, just catch the caboolture line from the gold coast and you'll be at brissy central in about an hour, i could meet you and your crew there.

Im starting to like the sound of this, this could be very cool. Imma see if NESSBOUNDER wants to come down and stay, and of course the southern smashers would be invited. This would have to be sometime after these uni holidays, so after the 3rd of october. My place is open to anyone who dosn't mind sleeping on the floor for a night or whatever.

Yeah Kaydash that sounds good man, im not much of a gamer so i dont know where the arcades are in brisbane but i imagine that there are some good ones somewhere. Im at uni during the day on monday, tuesday and thursday. In my spare time im either down at the coast surfing or at the gym or im lazing around the city or at work making subs so im sure there will be heaps of free time to do stuff, i usually go out on wednesday (hour of power!) friday or sunday night if you want to come out and see the brissy nightlife.

So start spreading the word, if anybody has any other ideas let us know. But so far the plan is a big casual barbeque/smashfest/pub crawl/videos/beer/laughing/sitting out by the pool/**** good time at my house in brissy.

hmmm if we catch the train ill have to get vyse to do all the talking and our parents would propoly want to like talk to you at least to make sure your not a pedafile or what ever i might be able to drive down there after the holidays but id need someone with a licence caus i can get my learners soon, soon as in on the 17th i can do the test AND WE DONT SLEEP WHEN SMASH IS INVOLVED

HAH! Fine with me, since you pretty much sorted it all out already, but sure i'll take credit for it! It's not like we have to find a freakin venue like those poor southern sods, with thier, more than 4 person gatherings and thier, fancy-smansy brackets and half-decent scene. Bah! :p

After the 3rd of October is great for me, I just have to sort out days off work, I should have that done before the end of the month. Just keep me posted if something comes up and there are certain dates that dont work for you.

Moose, I see where your comming from and if your parents really really dont want you catching the train then we could probably sort out comming over for a bit to smash it up, but I think KK's place is the best option so far. But like I said, if you cant make it, i'll come over to yours and own ya!

Im from kuranda which is a little village near cairns. I moved to brisbane this year to do a a dgree at UQ (Teaching english and drama) i like surfing, skateing, going out clubbing/pubbing, playing guitar and smashing and i work at subway. Oh, im 18 by the way so your parents dont have to worry about me being underage or something. Yeah, and my names Josh if your wondering.

By the way you guys dont live near Narang do you? Thats where i usualy go surfing so i could come by and introduce myself to your parents or whatever sometime.

wow the queensland scene is gettin active yay after a tourny on the gold coast hosted by our school i am ranked 1st but then again i barely one and the matchs were very even one frame pretty much desiced the matchs thats how intense they were

I'll be comming to Brisbane at some point in October and most likely staying at King Kongs place, so if it suits you perhaps I/we could hook up and persue the ancient right of a 3-stocking.

Wow.... SEAT was great, too bad i was the only oen doing the Queensland repping, I got 13th overall which is good considering I was the only person not using a high or top tier character.

Hah, no pal, SEAT was in Melbourne I just got back from their yesterday. I was the only queenslander and I did a fair job of repping, there will be vids of my better matches.

Kaydash the best queensland smasher is likely to be between you, me and Nessbounder since i played him yesterday and he is still very very good, at least as good as alot of the people who placed highly in SEAT. I heard that you were good from dave, and im sure you've improved alot since then so im looking forward to playing you.

Anyhow, i'm still definatly comming if its all cool with you, all I have to do is book flights now.

UQ buddy, im there monday, tuesday and sometimes thursday if i can be bothered to go to my lecture on Thursday. I'm not at any of the colleges i have my own place in Toowong near BBC. Im doing a bachelor of education in drama/english (1st year), fun so far.

You at UQ? If not there then you'd be at QUT or Griffith I guess, but all the uni's are fairly close anyways.

You over 18? When Kaydash comes down we should get all the brissy smashers together and go to the RE or the Raggatta or maybe to the valley since it always goes off there and it would be a good way to get the QLD smashers to get to know each other.

Oh freddo, i am definatly gonna do my best to come to SEAT 2 (working and saving like mad) i had a great time at SEAT- All you other Queensland smashers should try to come down too so that its not just me doing the repping again.

hahahahahaahah. Nah, I know what your saying mate, the valley is heaps expensive sometimes but the people arnt annoying if you know where to go. I mean some of those clubs are for rich kinds only (**** them) and some are only for trippers but there are some good ones
(Im a Depot guy myself, gotta love it, only club in brissy that dosnt play techno ****)

When Kaydash comes down we should definatly get as many people as we can around, at the rate we're going we might have enough for a small tourney if the Gold Coast crew come up. Or maybe a competitive thing isnt the best idea, but we should definatly organise a meet of the QLD smashers, my place is always open but if anyone has a better plan just post. The RE and the Raggata are both great places and they're both about 10 minutes walk from my house, we can smash, grab some food, go out somewhere then smash some more that night if everyone is still able to :). Or if going out isnt your cup of tea then we could just hang out at my place or something.

The dates are looking good Will. Cao's thinking about the 10th of December which clears your minimum of the 5th by a long shot. Here I am inviting all you guys down and I'm not even sure who can accomodate you all... :urg: We'll see how it pans out. I'm so glad to hear that Sloth is back for a second run...so watch out King Kong.
I'm a bit worried about the Perth boys as well, wondering how they feel about EI2 (Scheduled Perth Tourney) being overshadowed...sooner or later I'm going to ask them if they want to cancel EI2 to try make it to SEAT2...I don't know how that will go down with the gang, but if we can help them here then it should be a blast. Maybe we can combine the two! Who knows...
