BIST (Back Into Smash Tournament) - Perth, Western Australia, 10th of September.

Alright, this is it. The next local Perth tournament. Time to test our skills and reflexes, and show who are the true top players in Western Australia! We can also use this to determine who we think should be in the 'Elite Perth Crew' when we have crew battles against Melbourne in December. Caotic's team is going down. ^_^

Time: 12pm, 10th of September - Whenever you want to leave, and if you need to crash at my place you can.
Location: 25 Valley Brook Road Caversham

Now, if you cannot acquire transport by car, the best way to make it to BIST is to take the train.
- Take the train to Bassendean Train Station
- Either walk (it will take a while to walk from there), or call me and I will come to pick you up from the station. If you need my number, ask either Mic or me over MSN, or post here and I will PM you.
- I'm unsure about Bus routes myself, you need to figure that out if you want to take the bus.

Any questions can be directed towards me (bringerofdeath128@hotmail.com/bringer128) or mic128 (mic_1281@hotmail.com/doesmannerism) over MSN/AIM.

Also, because I'm not currently feeling experimental, I'll just use a fairly standard ruleset.

RULESET:
- Seeded Double Elimination Format. You need to be defeated twice to be eliminated from the tournament, and new smashers shall be unseeded.
- Items off
- 4 Stock
- 8 Minutes time limit. If time runs out, the person with more stock and less % wins. No sudden death.
- Each set will be played best of 3, with the exception of finals. Finals will be played best of 5.
- Double blind: It can be requested by either player that the first character picks for a set are told to an impartial party before selection, to prevent counter picking on the first game.
- Advanced slob picks: After the 1st match, the loser of the match gets to pick the next stage. The winner then gets to choose whether or not he wants to switch character. Then the loser gets to choose whether or not to switch character.
- Dave's Stupid Rule: The same stage can never be played more than once in the same set.
- Random stages will be between 5 'neutral' stages: Yoshi's Story, Fountain of Dreams, Final Destination, Dreamland 64 and Pokemon Stadium.
- All other stages will be allowed as counter picks, except for banned stages.
- Banned stages are - Hyrule Temple, Icicle Mountain, Termina Bay, Brinstar Depths,Venom, Kongo Jungle, Flatzone, Fourside, Yoshi's Story 64, Mushroom Kingdom I (Other suggestions are possible, but you have to discuss it with me)

As this is mine and my family's house, everyone coming will abide by our rules. This is a condition of entry to the tournament. (Don't worry too much, however, we're fairly lenient)

Ok, hope to see you all there.

Let's get Back Into Smash!

Mic just reminded me, if there are enough people we will have a side tournament of DS Bomberman. It will be FFA, settings on random, and Mic will be host. We'll decide later on how we will determine the winner.

New point: Please sign up here (http://smashboards.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=207&day=2005-9-10%2000:00:00) to join up for the tournament.

BIST is a direct response to SEAT!! May the interstate rivalry live on!

psst - Melbourne >>>>>>>>>>>> Perth, and I am the best to make assumption of that, so w00t, ja!

Get back to work guys! No more dicking around.

gee, thanks cao, we will remember this next time you come around, and we will just leave you to catch a shuttlebus to an obscure station in a strange city and then expose you to ridiculous amounts of gaming.

that sounds like fun.

wow, mic, actual wit. i am very very surprised.

That DOES sound fun Mat! You pansy. Next time I might just find my own way there. It's so much better to rough it up and travel to an alien and foreign place on your own terms, rather than have someone take you there - it makes the trip more satisfying. I didn't see, feel, and explore much of Perth at all, and I love my travel, geography and transport - who else here would have transit maps of cities stuck in their bedroom walls with red stickies of smasher locations all over the map (CATS off the map) like bomb site locations? I like to explore and I like Lonely Planet.

I'm still right though, W00T.

Looks like we'll have a fairly decent turnout, if everyone who says they're turning up does.

Mic, can you come early so we can organise my house around? Find best spots for TVs and stuff.

And bring your cube too.

And if anyone happens to have a spare portable TV that they can bring in their car, please do so. I have 2 TV's, and hopefully Josh can bring one, but the more the better ^^. Same goes with Cubes.

Thanks for your support guys. See you then!

Lamers. Tell them they're lame ;)

BIST is on the bottom of the SWF main page. Yay! Must be soon!

1st Quetzalcoatl (If I went Marth I would've won =D)
2nd Bringer
3rd Kenton
4th Mic
5th Rob (Lost to Mic, would've otherwise been equal 4th)
6th Eric
6th Mat (Bad bracket, and you were saying about how uber your bracket making skills were =P)

Yeah, only 7 participants, so sue me. Next tournament will be organised to avoid TEE exams that people have to study for.

Also, I have exclusive John rights to this tourney. I beat Josh in the winners, but he won losers and then beat me. However, I counterstaged him on Yoshi Story, but forgot to change to Marth. My fault, but I could very well have won that =P (I 3 stocked him last match on there) Even the exhibition match afterwards, for if I had chosen my character correctly, I 2-stocked him ^^

My Ganon sucks.

'Nuff said.

Very close match Kenton. The only reason you won was Falcon was a bit more sexier (fine, heaps) then Falco. Your lack of practise is begining to show. ;)

*sniffle*

anyway, good stuff, tourney was good. i was going to do over the top shoutouts to everyone even remotly concerned with the tournament like the americans do, but i cant be bothered now cos im in a bad mood due to ems deeply insulting post.

Perhaps you should put the mouse down and pick up your controller?

Wow, nice shoutouts guys, it really shows how 'back into smash' we are

Anyways, the tourney was good. The new comers were particurly impressive, an with no tourney experience did pretty well.

Yeah, i was dissapointed because I didnt get to vs ryan because of crappy double elimination. I had to vs josh twice -_- which he won both times.

Yeah, ryan, I remeber when you called me a counter picker when cao came over. Well, well well. To be honest you are the biggest counterpicker out of all of us due to what I saw at the tourney. Marth vs peach on yoshis story.......CHEAP. Thats just lame. Some of the other counterpicking was pretty lame too. Yeah and I dont counterpick, I only use captain falcon.

And yeah, well done on your places everyone.

Can everyone feel the smash urge? cos I sure as hell cant, especially after getting killed by downsmash on %17 off the edge.

Mic_128

Well if perhaps you guys picked up a controller before the day...

rmusgrave

Lol, Kenton. I have nothing against counterpicking in tournaments. That's the whole reason behind the slob picks and advanced slob picks.

The difference is counterpicking in friendlies. I've seen Em switch characters often just cos she doesn't like that matchup in friendlies, and you tend to do it to. Although I will give you that recently you have only been playing Falcon, which is honorable in friendlies I guess, but it won't win you tournaments.

Oh, and to the "Marth vs peach on yoshis story.......CHEAP" - Peach vs Yoshi on any level = CHEAP. In fact it's a worse matchup than the Marth vs Peach on Yoshi's story.

Effectively, I only counterpicked when the situation was practically hopeless for Yoshi. I played Yoshi against everyone else, and would have done so against you.

Can everyone feel the smash urge? cos I sure as hell cant, especially after getting killed by downsmash on %17 off the edge. I sure as hell can ^^. It's better than playing DotA online, and half the players leaving if their team has the first death. (And downsmash is avoidable, you just need to practice against it more)

My shoutouts:

Mic: Reliable as ever. Good job taking out Mat, although it's unfortunately getting easier and easier. I reckon you and Kenton will be having a lot of close matches from now on.

Josh: Once you got warmed up, you did quite well. I'll get you next time though. ^_^

Mat: Thanks heaps for the TV, and for transporting Kenton and Josh. I hope you enjoyed yourself, and next time I hope you are less altruistic in your bracket creation.

Kenton: I wish I'd vsed you too. Guess we'll have to wait till next time.

Eric: I didn't expect you to be as good as you were, good job. Being introduced to all these new smashers is a new experience for you, and I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Rob: Pity your brothers couldn't come, but you nearly made up for their absense yourself. You played quite well, and I saw you wavedashing here and there. With some practice, you'll be up with us in no time. That, and my mum says the chocolates were totally unnecessary, but thanks you for them as well. Hope to see you soon!

Timmy: FLAAAAAAKERRR!!!

That is all.

i dont think marth counters peach. even ken says he has a hard time with peaches (as marth). i think its either fair match or better for peach

rmusgrave
09-29-2005, 08:05 AM
Perhaps, cella, but on Yoshi's story Marth has the advantage. Or at least, mine does =P
