Hi, i'm new to this website. I've been playing SSBM for about three years now, and I still play it a lot. I see everyone on here preaching about how Roy is worse then Marth, and about how everything Roy can do Marth can do better. I'm not trying to start a flame war, just stating what I believe. The differences between Marth and Roy.
Roy is slower then Marth, Marth's recovery and speed are better. The thing I found with Roy over Marth is Roy has more control over fights, especially on PvP, but I haven't faced many other players. Playing against real people would be a blessing I hope I can do someday =D
A big difference between Roy and Marth is a very simple move that people take for granted. It's the ducking down, then tapping A (Not Down+A at the same time, not to be confused with that.) As Marth, this sends the player forward. As Roy, this spikes the character directly over your head. When new characters spawn I find I can get them to about 60% in about six or seven seconds just because I poke them and can successfully barrage them with attacks because they're directly over top of me.
Another thing with Roy is his Up+B seems to deliver more attacks then Marths Up+B, and it's much harder to counter Roy's then it is with Marth's, specifically at high %.
I personally see Roy as more of a power house and a control freak then Marth. Marth is just fast, I can't find he can end things quickly. Thats just me, I find I play better with Roy then Marth, i've experimented with them both, and against AI I find Roy much better. If there is any PvP in the NY state let me know =D
