55 Degrees North, a Newcastle upon Tyne England Tournament.
I’ve decided to host my second tournament just over a year after my last, judgment day. For those of you who were present back then the tournament went down smoothly and I think I’m safe calling it the first large UK tournament that included all the main British smashers that still constitute our core community today. I am hoping to gather together all the British smashers that have made past UK tournaments. Including the legend Scott himself. It would be great to get some foreign interest as well!
The tournament *should* be hosted on the first weekend of November. That will be the5th/6th weekend. Please DO NOT purchase tickets till I confirm the date. I should have it confirmed by this Sunday. As yuna has decided to host a large European tournament early January then my tournament will be slightly different in make up. I’m not expecting to get a huge crowd so the tournament will be used as a dress rehearsal for a much larger tournament im planning to run early Summer 06. The emphasis will be placed firmly on fun. Not that this means the tournaments won't be competitive ;). When I go to tournaments I enjoy socializing and meeting new people and spending time with those that I have got to know through tournaments. As a result my tournament weekend will have other activities going on except smash.
I’m offering to do the following during the weekend. Here’s a timetable of what I expect to do:
Thursday 4th: Virtually every week I go down my local pub for the pub quiz. This week should be no different. Those that arrive before Friday are welcome to join me. Its good fun, ask Q. Don’t worry if your not 18/don't look it or not interested you can chill with others at my flat.
Friday 5th: Meet those arriving and get them to the venue. Late evening we shall run international crew matches. This should take the form of team England v team Scotland v team others. Back in October 04 in Glasgow team England managed to swiftly take care of Scotland on their home turf. Its now the Scots turn to *try* pull back some pride on English soil in a long awaited rematch. Pizza will be ordered in this night. Or if the weather permits a BBQ Yuna style!
Saturday 6th: Doubles and Singles tournaments, in that order. Saturday night I will be going along to a local Italian restaurant with whoever is interested. It’s cheap, five minutes from the venue and should be a good laugh!
Sunday 7th: I’m hoping to take everyone paintballing. Paintballing should cost at maximum thirty pound. It is well worth it and should be a great laugh. Id like people to contact me and sign up for paintballing if they are up for it. Please tell me on here. I need to know as I will need to book our party and a mini bus. If it turns out not enough people are interested I can also look into Go-Karting that would possibly be cheaper. Ill get prices up soon.
Ill now run through some travel details. At first glance Newcastle looks an awkward place to get to or costly if you’re looking at direct flights. Don't worry its not.
For UK Residents:
If you’re coming by train you want to arrive at Newcastle upon Tyne Central Station. From there you will be looking to get on the METRO underground. The metro can be located to the left of burger king inside the station. You will see a large M sign. Black lettering, yellow background. Go down the stairs and get yourself a ticket to 'FOUR LANE ENDS'. It costs around £1.50. When you go down the escalator take the left platform to 'THE COAST'. There are two directions metros take from here towards the coast. There’s 'Airport' and 'Coast' metros. Get on a coast metro U_U. It takes 10-15 minutes. When you get of at four lane ends I shall be there to meet you if you've txt me telling me to do so!!!. Ask me for my number over msn please.
For those traveling from southern England. It maybe cheaper for you to travel to Newcastle via stansted. Check www.easyjet.co.uk. If prices are about the same as a train ticket or just a little more expensive you may want to take this option. The flight takes 45 minutes opposed to a 5 hour train journey (directs around 3 ish from London).If you fly in read the information for foreigners below to get to the venue from Airport Metro.

Getting to Newcastle can be costly if you attempt to fly direct. Your best option is to travel via London.
If you fly into London Stansted your main option is to fly to Newcastle International Airport with easyjet. Check out www.easyjet.co.uk. It’s a cheap airline. When you arrive at the airport head towards the Airport Metro. If you come out domestic arrivals it should be located to your left. If you come out International head left until you get to the end of the airport building (inside). Look for M sign, black lettering and yellow background. Buy yourself a ticket to FOUR LANE ENDS. Costs around £1.50. There are two platforms you may take trains from either. Get off at a stop called 'SOUTH GOSFORTH'. Takes roughly 15 minutes to get to this station. You do not need to purchase another ticket. From there cross over the red bridge onto the other platform. You want to get a metro to the 'Coast'. Sometimes it says,’ COAST’ via Four Lane Ends'. However, for those that opt to take this path there’s a few rules. The airport is about an hour away. Therefore I will have to pick you up by car. I don't mind doing this but you must fly in before Friday and leave after Sunday. If you can't do this I may consider picking you up early Friday but will be VERY hesitant dropping you of Sunday night. Please remember it’s a 2 hour round trip for me.
I MUST stress that flying into Newcastle > Durham tees valley for myself!!!!
If you arrive before Friday and leave after Sunday I will most likely be picking you up via car so you may not have to worry about this ;).

It would make allot of sense just booking an open ticket return. If you really can't get back Sunday I should be able to house you but you will most likely be housed at my parents if my flats too crowded. Those that are foreign and can't afford paintballing you'll be left at my flat if I feel I can trust you. If not Ill drop you of at my parents place.
For foreigners I understand it’s harder to organize flights and that it maybe preferable for you to fly back monday,tuesday,wednesday etc. Just run your flights past me first before booking please.
Only thing id like to mention are those that come outside Friday - Monday then Ill most likely be working 8-5pm. Don't worry those ill be living with are laid back so you be fine around the place and there should be someone there with you. Same goes for those that don't want to come down pub quiz on the Thursday. Ill ensure there’s one of my friends around the place.

The venue looks like it will be hosted from a community centre hall. Please bring a sleeping bag or other sleeping equipment as you will be staying at the venue on the Friday and Saturday night. However, to make the pain of the hall floor easier ill be providing cheap lilos ^_^.
There’s a gregs, newsagents and tesco extra within a five minute walking distance. So grabbing snacks should not be too difficult!!.

• Banned Stages: Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Both Mushroom Kingdom, Big Blue, Icicle Mountain, Hyrule Temple, Great Bay, Fourside, Yoshi Island 64.
• Dave’s Stupid Rule; The same level can not be played twice in a match.
• A stage maybe knocked out for the entire match by each player.
• Double blind pick can be called.

For Scotland: If heard whack from you guys that England doesn't stand a chance. That half our team hasn't been to a tournament in over 6 months and that other members have been inactive till recently. Even that Ryan could take our team single handedly!!! =O. The worst insult being that Ryan could take our star player, Scott, with one hand. Man that’s one step too far. Come that Friday England’s going to pull of the greatest shock ever. Ain't no way your getting any glory on our turf! You Scots haven't beat England at anything, ever. You guys aren't even a real country. You guys will show respect!
