Ok can you control when Luigi goes BOOM across the stage and when he makes that wimpy laggy hiss move or not I am not a Luigi player but I would like to know.

No, you cannot control the misfire. It's completely random afaik.

Yeah, it's completely random. I'm pretty sure that the game says that it happens an 1/8 of the time, in the off chance you're curious.

Its actually random... except when you get it twice i think the game means to do that but other than that yeah.. completely random.

Its still fun to scream "I CONTROL THE MISFIRE".

Yell "FLAME ON!!!" at the top of your voice while blasting across the stage in a gigantic flaming headbutt.

I need posts so I'm going to repeat what everyone just said:

No you can't control the misfire, it has a 12.5% chance of happening.

Haha conan I see you're a Luigi as well as a Marth. Or at least, that's the way it seems.

If only it was controllable: good timing, etc.

Misfire in combos > j00. I do it against CPUs and that's about it >_>

You may not be able to "control" the misfire, but it's still a deadly damage-racker and a fast, far-travelling finisher, so always increase your odds of getting it by using the missile in a match whenever you get the chance. Get away from your enemy, and do a few, or at higher damage just use it charged a bit to rack damge, and maybe you'll get a hit.

..but you can also try working this into medium % combos as an early finisher by making a set-up for it then just use the missile normally, charge it for timing and you'll have a chance to finish them off early.

I get an extra ko or two every now and then going for it when I get a chance.

If you want something more reliable, just go for the Flaming jump punch.

This move has many advantages to it, and there's several ways to get the hit in, a few at a disturbing distance away from your opponent..

If you use this and clank your enemy's knockdown attack, you can send them up in flames and you don't even need to be right next to them.
You can also CC an attack, and do this- the key's timing hitting their non-disjointed hitbox of their arm or whatever they used, though swords might not work.
A great counter and damage racker at low%. This comes out fast and deals 25% the first screech.
You can dodge and attack, then screech counter.
You can shield an attack, and counter with upB, in the right situation.
You can also wavedash into an upB. Do this out of shield if you want, but don't ever use this as an offensive attack, only when your foe's stuck in auto-animation land, as this is extremely punishable if you miss OR it doesn't sweet-spot.

Combine these techniques- If you shield something strong and laggy, and it seems to send you too far back to counter, do a full wavedash out of shield to them and upB them in their lag! Zoom 'n Boom!

Personally, I believe that it CAN be controlled, if you charge to a certain point. And I do mean certain. The point of misfire, I think, is probably only one frame long and takes place at the end of the charging sound. Release the missile then, and you'll get a misfire. That's my theory, at leastI did a 100 missile test and got 27 misfires using this method a while back. I blame the 73 non-misfires on bad timing on my part. >.>

Of course, it's hardly conclusive. Misfiring three times in a row has odds of 1/512, but people seem to do it all the time. I don't know if I actually believe it myself, because I'm loath to conduct another, longer test for fear it'll prove the theory wrong. What I'd REALLY like to do is to test the frame timing theory with an AR, but I don't have one, and nobody seems to take me seriously enough to test it for me. Well, anybody here with an AR feel like trying?

I dunno about that, there have been plenty of times when i've gotten misfires without charging at all and plenty of times when i've gotten misfires charging part way or all the way... It doesn't seem like it depends on timing. The most common explanation i've heard is the 12.5% chance

this is kinda off the topic of controling it, but, how come i never get misfires when i try to recover... i always get it when i least expect it. I dont think luigi likes me.... :ohwell:

Try edgeguarding with misfire, itīs fun.
I once succeeded pulling one against Marth who was almost at a bubble and I misfired him with enormous power. Was fun.

:o misfire in combos yes. And completely at random. Everyone will know you control the misfire like me.

I recently got four Misfires in a row...The fifth time I used the Green Missile, it was regular, but the sixth time was a Misfire, and finally the eight time. So in one match I got a total of six Misfires! I think with practice, I can control the Misfire. ;)

If you could control it Luigi would be the best in the game. Wait he already is.

I had this weird dream that if I tapped a button at the right time when I used the missile it'd misfire every time..

..and I'm going to be very pissed if I'm being mislead here.

My subconscious wouldn't do that to me, would it?

BlackShellBowser

sadly...your subconscious did mislead you, lol. Though sometimes it appears as if you can control it. At most you can just use it a few times and hope for a misfire (though once a CPU Luigi "planned" it as I was jumping back on... boy did that hurt...)

The misfire is uncontrolable right? Maybe it's just me but I saw on this Luigi video where this guy uses it while recovering and it misfired everytime for three times.

I saw that video too, and just blame it on luck. If it can be controlled, it must be one of the best kept secrets ever. Not that it matters...

i did some tests, and if you hold back for 2 seconds, then use forward b (like a sonic boom) the misfire chance is up to about 15%

Something tells me that you're a bit off, there.

Luigi > Guile.

The misfire definitely is completely uncontrollable. It sure is devastating if just happen to do it at the right time, like after a combo that knocks a foe in front of you. I can't count the times I've gotten KO'd by an unexpected misfire from a CPU Luigi, either.

PimpUigi

Dude, don't diss Guile...he was the top tier character in SF2. None of the other characters could come close to touching him.

But that's not important, or how cool his "Sonic Boom" voice was (until they changed it, and really he was only top tier in the 'World Warrior' SF2) what's important...is that his music kicked ***!

Luigi's music in smash...I no can find it. It's what Luigi's missing.

So, Luigi > Guile.

But, Guile from SF2 World Warrior + music = Luigi

Yippie!
