My friend plays more or less only as IC's, and we're going to be entering a 2v2 tournament soon. Basically, I'm hoping resident experts can give advice on two things:

1) What strategies should my friend be focusing on? I know it probably varies from opponent to opponent, but my friend mostly works on grabs into infinites and smash combos, as well as simply playing the hit-and-run game with WDs into neutrals, tilts, and smashes. But, since 2v2 kind of changes up the field, he might need to keep other things in mind. Anybody who can offer advice, I appreciate it.

2) Who should I be to best complement the IC's? I can play as more or less any character with above-average proficiency, but if it helps any my preferences are Mario, Doc, Fox, CF, Ganon, Peach, Jigglypuff, Link, and YL. Also, any advice on what I can do with my characters to work with my friend's IC's would be welcome.

Well #1 really depends on how your friend decimates his opponent, such as you said he works on grabs, infinites, etc. What I like to do with the IC is just keep my opponent in the air using... Up+A, Up+B, and any attacks that will "stun" your opponent, and when they try to move away, let your friend do his ground work :)

2) I would say if you are going to use the "Air Stradegy", you should use a character who could stay in the air and help attack your enemy while your friend is helping (i.e. Kirby, Jigglypuff). But for best policies, just use the character you feel most comfortable playing with.

First of all, if you are going to need to change the title to IC in 2vs2, because the opponent that separates you two, does not have to chase her. Good teams will kill nana uber fast. And my suggestion would be not to play IC's in teams, they don't seem to work well for the above reason, and that their grabs are easily interupted. Sorry for advice you probably didn't want to hear. I hope I'm wrong, I hope the IC's can be played well in teams.

Yes, ICs arent as good as usual in teams, but here are some things that might help.

You should use someone that has good arials. Ice climbers have a very bad air game, as their only useful arial moves are Bair and Uair. This way, if the level has platforms or your opponent plays an arial game, you've got the ICs back(s).

Play Game and Watch while your friend does all the work, and just jump around and taunt. That's what I would do if my friend played IC as a main. :(

I say you two sit down and have a team session. His main strat should be primitive fighting. WD smashes timed well to not hit you...And your friend's skill shouldn't matter either;WD smashes aren't hard at all.

IC's grab is useless in teams. Thats the worst part. No grab means half their game is gone. I think he should be playing a defensive shield ***** while you do some fighting, and when he can find the right moment he should smash.

IC's are not that great in teams.

Oh yeah! I'm sorry I wasn't thinking at first. If you are going to play with the Icy's, you need to play Ness. Why? A short hopped blizzard from the Icy's will eliminate (down b with Ness) 72%. Single icy is half of that. That actually might make the Icy's useful in teams, because Ness becomes unkillable. There's your strategy, tell me how it works out.
