For everyone looking for some tournament fun this summer and can't go to FC, Tru-gamerz (the same location as MOAST 3) is having a teams tournament on July 17th.
Right now all I know is the date, but as soon as I know the time and entry fee I'll edit this post. Traditionally their tournaments have been around 2 or 3 pm and the entry fee has almost always been $10.
Ruleset is likely going to be the MOAST 3 ruleset:
2/3
No Items
Advanced Slob Picks
Random: Yoshi Story, Fountain of Dreams, Pokemon Stadium, Battlefield, Dreamland 64, Final Destination
Non-Random: Peach's Castle, DK Rap, Brinstar, Corneria, Mute City, Onett, Mushroom Kingdrom, DK 64, Rainbow Cruise, Jungle Japes, Yoshi's Island, Green Greens, Pokefloats, MK2
Banned: Hyrule Temple, Yoshi 64, Venom, Flatzone, Brinstar Depths, Icicle Mountain, Fourside, Termina, Big Blue
One level strike is permitted.
Finals will be 3/5
Team attack on
Life stealing allowed
Right now it's teams only, but if enough of you guys yell at them on their forums maybe they can change their mind (http://www.tru-gamerz.com/forum/)
If you don't remember the location, it can be found here: http://www.tru-gamerz.com/home.htm
Hope to see lots of people there, maybe even jetlagged Sint and CC :)
Ok, it's official, registration starts at 2, tournament starts at 3.
The fee is $10 per person (i.e. $20 per team)

Hmm... I've never been to a tournament before, so I'm not sure how it works. I have a few questions. 1) Do I just show up at that Tru-gamerz place on the 17th and enter? Or, do I have to register in advance or something? 2) Do I need to bring my own controller, or do they have working supplied controllers? 3) Does team attack on mean I damage my own teammate? I'm not used to playing like that, dagumit. 4) I don't know what these mean: "Advanced Slob Picks" and "One level strike is permitted". 5) Lastly, is there any age requirement or something? It would be nice if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks! :)

1. Yeah just show up at Tru-gamerz a little before the tournament and sign up.
2. Lots of people bring their own controllers, however they have working controllers if you choose to not bring yours.
3. Yes it means you can hit your teammate, keeps things like two blaster spamming falcos from keeping the other team from moving and such.
4. Advanced slob picks- loser tells winner which stage he is going to choose, winner picks his/her character, loser then picks his or her character last, then the match begins.
One level strike is permitted- The first stage is random (from the choices labeled "random" in the first post) however, you have the ability to strike one of the stages from the random first stage. If the stage is picked on random, the match is restarted. The stage can still be counterpicked at a later time in the set though, just not for the random stage.
5. No age requirement, I've seen as young as 6 enter a tournament there before...
Hope that clears things up.
Also, something happened to the tru-gamerz forums.... looks like it got hacked, but the tourney is still on as far as I know. If the forums aren't up soon I'll just call the guys and make sure it's still going to happen.

Oh yeah, and one more thing I was wondering about... what are the prizes?
WiLD BOris
07-08-2005, 01:47 PM
Prizes depend on the how many people we can get for this. And you do need a partner. This isnt going to be an extremely huge tourney like the others going on this summer but there will be some good talent here, so dont think it will be weak. ;)

Of course not, why would I think that? -hehehe- Okay, well it turns out I have a few more questions, sorry. 1) In that advanced slob picks thing, you said that the "winner picks his/her character, loser then picks his or her character last". So, does this mean if they pick a character, you can not choose the same one? Or does it just mean you can pick a character good against theirs? Can me and my partener be the same character? 2) Me and a friend want to join, as well as 2 other of my friends. The thing is, we don't want to have to face each other in the very first round and be out. So is this how the tournament works? Or do you get to lose to other teams a few times before you're out completely? 3) How many people usually join these things? 4) If the entry fee is $10, is that ten dollars a person, or per team? 5) Lastly... do I stand a chance against you guys? Okay, that should be the last of my questions, thanks. teehee

1. You can choose the same character as either your opponent or your teammate (all 4 of you can play Pichu if you really want  )
2. It's double elimination, so even if you have to play your friends first round (which is unlikely but possible) you're not out until you lose twice.
3. Usually between 15 and 25 or so, so probably in the area of 10 teams.
4. I'm pretty sure it's $10 per person
5. I really have no clue, but I'll go ahead and say yes ;)

And if your friend shows up he can probably find someone else that needs a partner, and if not freeplay would cost him like... $5 or something.
Is it too ironic that i'm not going to be there, especially when Prevenge and I really pushed for it?

What was your name? I don't remember the shirts exactly, LoL.
I asked one of the guys up front after the tournament when the next tournament was, but he just gave me an ambiguous answer. He did say that we could get a 1v1 Tournament going if enough people post of their forums saying they'd want one.
Hopefully I'll get to play some Smash next weekend with some of the new people I met. My brother and I definitely want to play other people since we normally only get to play each other and computers ;/.

We had a decent turn out and a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who came out. Hopefully we can get a tourney in before school starts up again. So if anyone is interested we need to pressure tru-gamerz into gettin it started...

I nominate August 15th. Last day before school starts.

Yay for the turnout!
Cool to meet some other people that are new to the scene.
WildBoris : Did you play with Firegod?
EVERYONE : Let's blow up the Tru-Gamerz boards and get a singles tourny going and hopefully we will have as good turnout as this one.
