View Full Version : CJ's Bowser = Top Tier?

It always tickles my tummy whenever I watch CJ's vid versus Chronos Rainbow, enjoying the rhymatic flow of his Bowser as he tosses fox around like he was scrub tier.
Now "legend" has it that CJ beat Ken's Marth... which seems to be the match most people have trouble against with Bowser, especially a Marth that isn't all out offensive but rather tasks you with approaching him, making it almost impossible for Bowser to get over the "wall" of swords.
Air to Air - Marth rapes you
So how does Bowser stand a chance, and how did CJ manage to beat Ken's Marth? There is some hidden underlying power Bowser holds, and I think only CJ knows about it. I mean come on... this is Ken... I don't care if it was just a friendly match. To Bowser players around the world, this should provide enough inspiration to disregard the obvious notion of "Marth rapes Bowser".
If only this video were available... It would provide groundbreaking evidence as to how Bowser can combat Marth, as it seems nigh impossible in certain situations. Its as if Marth can stand back and watch, while you make a fool of yourself in the process by trying to pull some "mindgames" on him... when all he has to do is juggle Bowsers fat arse with a multitude of f-airs, completely absorbing Bowser's aerials.
CJ's Bowser holds the key to unlocking the potential that the Great Koopa holds... Unfortunately he only happens to have two videos, those of which the quality is sub-par, but the main point is taken in very well... That is... CJ's Bowser is top tier.
If only CJ came out with a few more videos... I believe he could make Bowser top tier... Afterall... The fortress pwns d'em knobs.

bowser rapes marth when marth is off the edge... there is no way he should come back on
also, the dtilt double sweep works wonders
this fight is all about spacing

Didn't CJ's Bowser 3-stock Ken's Marth like he did to most other challengers during his visit? If that's the case, lol - owned - Bowser rapes Marth, hahaha.
pronstarpwnzor, I'm willing to watch that match too, so perhaps you can get a request of that matchup from Ken, perhaps by donating to him for his Japan Tourney thing? That might work. I can donate (and probably will) for that matchup.
A group of Aussies will be making the pilgrimage to Japan in August, and they have assured me they will seek particular attention in regards to Bowser, cus I said so, lol.
NB - about Captain Jack vs Cronos Rainbow, that's a PAL match happenin' there. CJ had no-flame cancelling up his sleeve and was super heavy, whilst the Fox was light as **** and weak as piss. The matchup is alot more in Bowser's favour in PAL. However, he says NTSC is definently better, which is interesting cus Bowser strats are less deep in PAL. Nevertheless, you're owned, either way. I was gonna put my Bowser ditto against him up on DC++, but hell no after second thought. My Bowser wasn't even decent at that time, and 3 stockage is no fun, hahaha, so it's not worth it.

hahahaha oh my god Captain Jack is God. game over. i've seen videos with some of his characters where i'm like, "he might not be THAT good" and then i hear a story like this. he is the man.

What is the PAL tier list like?

Generally the same, with the differences in tiers thinned out, but I'm not exactly sure where Bowser stands. He was one of the few characters to be significantly improved, and Sheik (u-air hardly kills, no d-throw chains), Fox (PANSY), Marth (no more spike), Falco (spikes only for 1/2 the animation) took the most toning down.

CAO, you're overestimating the PAL differences lol. The weight differences are sooo negligible. They make about 3% difference for the KO percentages.
Bowser is worse in PAL, because he has no flame cancelling. His weight change might make a 5% difference in KO percentage if you're CCing, but other than that, PAL Bowser isn't better than NTSC.
And the only change with Fox that really weakened him was that his upsmash was weakened. So now he won't kill at such low % with it.
Stop tooting PAL's horn :p

Yeah in PAL Fox won't kill Bowser with uair so **** easy. It does make a real difference in that matchup though. NTSC Fox vs Bowser is broken with Fox uair (It feels like that to me, although I've just been told theres no difference ><"... for real). I guess I'm suited to PAL more I dont know?
*Toots PAL's horn* hahahaha
D1 does believe that the extra weight is more useful that the flame cancelling, so he told me.

It has been mentioned a few times that Ken wasn't going all out during that match.
It wouldn't be wise to show everything you've got before a tournament, especially to a very strong opponent.
Remen made that mistake during DT10 and it really did him in.
During the finales, CJ pretty much figured out how to counter his Fox. Only because he already went all out during the friendlies.
I think Ken was just trying to get CJ to underestimate him
By "letting" him win.
High grade mindgames and such.
But then again, what do I know ...>_>

There was a topic similar to this one earlier, and Ken did concede... he didn't take anything away from CJ's victory over him. That's what I know anyways.

Never knew there was a "Ken" fund to send him to Japan... Maybe Arash could clarify this as they are in the same clan if I'm not mistaken...
And Arash is there any chance of you getting a Bowser vid up. People on the hub speak highly of your Bowser, it would be cool to see a match and the way you play.
Another question though... When does CJ normally come to the US? Is it during some major tourney or something or does he just come down here randomly from the support he gets in Japan?

there is no ken fund, however there is a top 10 USA fund and ken happens to be on it
also, funny you should mention a video.... i'm working on putting one up, but capture cards don't like me

Looking at Jack's newly updated site with Bowser videos. He seems to jump a lot, and if he gets caught in combo on the ground, he up+B out of it. To edge gaurd he does ABA. His only aerial attacks are AFA, ABA and Forward B which I think is quite useful. His timing for AUA is very good and makes it so that it would have at least the same priority as the attack coming down at Bowser. He picks his timing for grabs well too.
EDIT: Forgot, he likes to flame cancel too.

My conclusion from those Bowser vs Yoshi vids:
Either CJ's Bowser sucks (unlikely)
Masashi's Yoshi is uber (unlikely)
Luke was wrong and Yoshi > Bowser ;)

Agreed, rmus.
Yoshi just tools on Bowser since he has no defense against an onslaught of juggling, including eggs, u-tilts, and u-airs. Yoshi just cripples Bowser in this matchup.

Luke
CJ put a Bowser special on his website... not sure if that is what you are talking about.

CJ's Bowser SD'ed in almost every vid I think, lol. But the good far outweighs the bad I guess.

Personally i have never had any trouble with yoshi juggles......but then again the only competition in utah is in salt lake which is very poor and easily falls to my bowser.

Watching Captain Jack's new Bowser vids, I noticed a few interesting similarities between his fighting style and mine, primarily in Bair as a ledgeguarding KO move :). **** I love that back air! He also pulled some nice Koopa Klaws and had some nice KOs. A few other things I noticed is that he didn't Bowser Bomb to the edge, which is very useful, and he SDed a little too many times. I wouldn't quite crown Captain Jack's Bowser as the greatest in the world yet, because he hasn't fought Luke yet ;). A pretty good Bowser none the less!
