:beezo: Okay, so...here's what's up. Toad Smash. I know a lot of you don't like it. Many of you don't even use it. It's branded as a horrible move...don't get it twisted, you're RIGHT. The lag is atrocious, the mid-air movement is awkward, not to mention that the spore spray doesn't always hit its mark. I, however, love the fact that Peach has a counter move.

There's one guy who I play on campus who is infinitely better than me at this game. He's years ahead of me in terms of skill and speed. However, the one thing that I can use during battle to help me get him down to his last stock is the Toad Smash. When we first started playing, he used to be so fast that he would win with just his speed, since I couldn't keep up. When I got faster, though, I could read his attacks, but not be able to do anything about them. Now that I've practicing on all of my techniques as well as incorporating the Toad Smash, his play style, for the most part, is very transparent and he is easily countered. Also, I don't think he expects it much since he's a pro and the people he plays on the pro circuit probably don't use the move.

My questions to you all are 1] why do you not use the Toad Smash (if you don't), 2] does anyone know if the damage is constant and, regardless, how much damage it does do, and 3] have you ever been double Peach Bomber'd from both sides? Because it's really embarassing. Anyway, thanks for your time.

I have never been double peach bombed but i sure do love using the toad. Her counter may not be that reliable but when you practice it enough it becomes a great tool to use. I use it all the time. When you can pretty much tell that you are going to be hit that toad can change the odds of what will happen next. The place i most use it is when some one trys to get back onto a legde or tries to attack to get on to the egde. If i hit them usualy who ever i am playing goofs up and falls straight to there death. about the damage being constant, i dont believe it is because when ever i use it, it seems to do a different amount every time. I think it depends on the attack. I can ask around thou.

1: Why do you call it a smash?
2: Never been dual Peach bombed.
3: I use Toad all the time, mostly for recovering purposes. I rarely use him to counter. I'll try using it on chaingrabbing Marths who finish with an fsmash and see how well it works.

:beezo: I guess it's just a habit I have. Come to think of it, I don't even know why I call it Toad Smash instead of just Toad. I think I might have read it as Toad Smash somewhere and I guess it stuck. o_o Anyway, I'm off to find new uses for the move and more counter situations. Hopefully I can find out what kind of damage this move expels, as well.

In my personal experience, the only time I've used toad effectively for hitting an opponent that was a Short Hopping Projectile user... Doc and Falco in particular. I find it to be a better choice then trying to shield, roll, or spot dodge when they're just about to close in... as long as it isn't over used. That's true for any move though.

I don't use it all when I'm playing an important match, but during free play, there are few attacks that make me happier when succesfully using. :p

However, it really does suck because of the time it takes before it can be used and because of the lagtime after it has hit. There usally are better alternatives.

:beezo: Thanks for all your input. I try not to use it too much, but when I do, the moments are golden! Anyway, thanks. ^_^

When I played against AZ he always used Toad while recovering when he expected somebody to smash them. And it worked a lot. I don't know if he was only doing that because he was messing around or if he actually did that in real matches though.

:beezo: I definately use it to recover from below...especially against Link. It also helps me when Sheik nails a forward tilt on me. Usually I can break out of the spin and put up Toad, at higher percentages, before she blasts me with that arm swipe of hers. x_x

Peach is one of my main characters ... and when I play seriously I almost never use the Toad. It's very slow so you have to anticipate WELL in advance your opponent's attack (and you'd better be at least 99% sure they are going to attack you) to land it. And if you miss it, you're going to get combo'ed, because the recovery time on it is terrible. It's terrible for four-person melee games since it only counters in one direction (unlike Marth and Roy) and leaves you open to be attacked by three other players. Even worse, against top-teir characters, who are generally extremely fast, they can recover from the spore stun (if they get partially hit) faster than you can recover from countering ... leaving you open to be combo'ed/etc.

:beezo: I do hate the fact that most characters can actually recover from the damage before you can pocket Toad. It's actually pretty embarassing. It makes the move less of a counter and more of a distraction I guess. At least the fast-fallers always seem to get juggled by the spore spray a bit before they get up. ^_^

Just to clear up what I said about using it against short hop projectile people... I don't get a lot of high end competition (not that I'm a high end player myself...) so people around my skill level tend to put a little more effort on the SH shooting techs because it isn't habbit yet for their fingers. When their projectile is stopped AND they get hit... it puts a big fat "WTF" look on their face.

I wouldn't really expect that to work very well on a high skill tournament.
