I'm a kinda new samus player, i've got some of her advanced techs down like the recovery with the grapple (if u consider that advanced), the SH nairs and baiirs. And i can even do the SWD like 1/10 tries. The only thing that i can't seem to do is the extender/ homing grapple. There isn't really a post that talks about it so can someone help me out and explain this as well as any other advanced techs i shuold know about?
Ill get to you before CapnCrunch does. Press up down on the D-pad over and over while pressing Z rapidly. And you will get it. Once you use it, press L to make it homing, press Z or (A+R) to make it grab or else it will just go through them. It cannot grab in the air. There you have it.

An easy way I found to do this is double jump and rotate the control pad clockwise twice (start at up) and tap Z repeatedly.

Just full jump once and then press up and down on the d-pad over and over again until you fall. Works everytime.

Thanks Rebel that worked on the first try.
It usually works on the first try on the floor. Its just that you end up seeing the grapple extended only after you try to grapple again.
Even if you do it perfectlythe very first time, you will NEVER have it come out the first time you attempt it.
You do it once perfectly, and your grapple will be normal size no matter what...again...EVEN IF DONE PERFECTLY. But the next time you press Z to take out the grapple, even without doing the button pressing...it will be extended as long as you did it right the first time.
You can do it while running, while jumping, while double jumping, while falling into a bomb...**** ive even done it between the grapple coming out and actually grabbing someone. Mess with it, see which way is more convenient for you.

HugS, you can also hold L and/or R while repeatedly tapping A and hitting the control pad up and down. Itn's not just Z, saying that is discriminitory, and i won't stand for it.
Also, i am shocked by the level of stupidity and brazenness that some posters using when commenting, particularly The Cape. All i have to say is read the freaking posts above yours. When one person says that you only have to hit up and down on the D-pad, left and right do nothing, it shows a certain, irrefutably low, level of intelligence that it takes to post something along the lines of "rotate the D-pad clockwise twice (start at up)". I mean, were you even thinking at all?? do you now basic english that dictates up and down does not mean clockwise?? is more, unnecessary work better for you The Cape? Does it make you feel good in a match when you do it clockwise? do you point out and say "omg look opponent, i just wasted energy using an inferior method because i am too dense to read that it's needless." i'm willing to bet you think a smash missile is done by flicking the control stick forward, back, forward. It's not just you though, it is here, and you should feel horribly ashamed that you can't understand the words "up and down work", but i mean, people should read things first before posting, this will stop a lot of useles questions being asked and answered multipe times in a single thread. And if you're like The Cape here, you could even answer a question incorrectly, even though it had just been answered correctly and more clearly, good job by the way.

Why does it make you feel good to make other people feel bad?
Maybe you're demonstrating a need for power. Did your parents abuse you or make you do lots of chores or something.
Maybe we could start something called crunches thread, where you can respond this way. You get the joy of belittleing someone, and we don't have to listen to you. Problem solved.

I didnt bother to read this entire stab at me, but I would like to comment on one thing. That is the way I had done it, and it worked for me, so it was displayed there as an option and a test. I was unaware of the only pressing up and down until I read so in the thread. I then posted my way of going about it because it works for me just fine and I would like the option to be there for many others to test.
