View Full Version : Timing misfire?

I believe it is possible to correctly time Luigi's misfire, and if done at this certain time, will misfire either always, or a much higher rate then randomly releasing the attack. So far I can find two times at which the misfire has a greater rate of success, or possibly, if times right, 100 percent chance of working. One of these times is at the climax of the sound of him charging up, and the other is at the very begginging and, because my predictions are based on sound, I cant seem to accuractly find it. Maybe Im crazy, but, using this method, Ive misfired up to 5 or 6 times in a row.

It's probably just your luck with the RNG. The RNG can be cruel or godly.

LoL, two people with only two posts. thats rare. anyway, there have been claims of being able to preform the missle on your own accord. and it not just being random. I myself dont know. I've heard you have to time it just right. others have said that you have to tap B much like the Fox Fire. If you can figure it out, and it isnt just random you're amazing. and I'm not being sarcastic. just dont expect many people to post their opinions. but yeah, welcome to the boards the both of you! =D

believe me when i say this... it can't be done. i say this because when i misfired like, 5 times like you guys did, i too searched for a way to time it... the BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME IN MY LIFE!!! there is a 12.5% chance he'll misfire (i think it's 12.5%), just leave it at that. it you want to find some way to try to time it, to make you feel more confident, feel free to do so (god knows i've done it:bee: )

Mew 2 King has said that it's 1 out of 8 for everyone except me.
For me it's 1 out of 4.

You'll understand if you see our Luigi ditto match that I'll try to get on the net. I think it's cause the way he treats me...his karma gives it to me. He's a mean mean person. :(

Anyway.

A great player once said, "True Luigi's have mastered the misfire."

Well, you can ask cape, or watch that video, or watch the Luigi ultimate combo video. I think I've come as close to mastering it as possible.

I have also said, "If done correctly, no can defend..." I think it's out of a movie though...lol

i really dont think u can time it, i dont think there is a certain time when you misfire, i just think u guys get lucky and then say, "hey i think you time it", just my opinion tho.

Looks like it might actually be 1 out of 3 for me...

You should have heard the guy at MLG.

"He controls the misfire..."

For real, once I post these videos, you'll believe...you'll believe...

You may be right about the mis-fire timing. Mainly because at around those two intervals I often have a higher chance of misfiring.

Today I misfired about 4 times in a row using those intervals.

Then again it could just be a coincidence.

i think it is just random

I believe it has something to do with the sound but that is just me. I have good luck with the misfire a lot and it happens at, what i think, near the same charge up time.:D

Most people probably already know this, but 12.5% is actually the same as 1/8. I never really thought about that until reading this thread, so... just in case there's other people like me.

That being said, aside from looking into the code of the game, I don't think there's a way to tell the exact chances of misfiring. I think 1/8 or 12.5% is correct, though. I just conducted a short test, and 48 out of 432 green missiles misfired (It doesn't take as long as you'd think, actually). That's a 1/9 chance, which can also be written as 11.11% repeating, which is reasonably close to 12.5%. And during that, I did multiple misfires at several points, so getting a few in a row may not mean too much. I'm intrigued, though.

More on topic, I'll try to find this "timing sweetspot" next time I'm able to; probably tomorrow. It actually wouldn't surprise me if it works. I mean, think of all the other timing sweetspots Nintendo's had! Like in Mario Kart and stuff. And the triple jump in Mario 64.

EDIT: I used ellipsis. It's a silly habit I'm trying to rid myself of.

EDIT: I tried it. O.O

I'm a believer. I can't provide statistics, because my timing is a little bad, but I, too, have experienced a very dramatic increase in the misfire rate when I unleashed the missile at the end of the charging sound. No luck with the other time interval, though.

So, that's three of us who have tested the timed misfire with some degree of success. Still, though, Smash has been out since 2001. It's now 2005, and millions of people have since played. The odds seem astronomical that the misfire, a long sought-after attack, can be controlled in such a simple way. But hey, we're still discovering new glitches by the month; week, even. I think this is the real deal.

That's what people would say towards Atmagamer...

(while he still played of course. He since realized that his only asset was the misfire, so he quit :p)

Yea...but I'm not mean to you.

So...oh...look. A mongoose.

Instead of talking about that, you could talked about the time we were on teams, and every time I misfired, I hit you. Even though you were my partner.

Magnetism. I tell you. Karma...just like on GameFaqs.

It doesn't have to be one or the other y'know. Maybe the odds are slightly different depending on when you release the button, so at the climax of the charge up sound your chances are higher than 12.5% and elsewhere in the charge it's lower., and on average it's 12.5%. So you wouldn't actually be controlling it, but increasing your chances of success to the point of making it look that way.

(Heh I have no idea if that makes sense, feel free to flame it if you want. I don't really play Luigi afterall.)

As you can see, that post I mentioned that in was made about three months ago.

Who cares anymore? Really?

No one.

I'll see you this weekend. Probably Saturday.

I know MK1Master told you. Don't forget.

I guess this is a moot point, but some vids where I get crazy misfires are up.

that's kool the few of y'all can time the misfire...

the ways i were taught was the one already mentioned before (the lucky tap right b version)...

but my boy mike showed me his other method, which was to circle motion the joystick after holding right b...the chance for misfire increases and the missile gets stronger if you don't get the critical...it's really great for comebacks...

good ish, though...

i think the most misfires i've ever gotten in a row is 2 or maybe 3...if you want to try to get the timing then go for it...i'll be busy doing things other normal people do...lol
