I was wondering...is wavedashing really that crucial with Kirby? He hardly seems to go anywhere, and most of the time I can't pull it off very well, and it seems to not be worth the effort. Some expert opinions on the matter would be nice...

Kirby's wavedash isn't too hard... just practice with it for a bit longer and it should come easy to you. As for it's usefullness, I find it very usefull for Kirby for a number of different reasons. For a lot of people, they will start off playing Kirby with the crouch cancelling wd style. This is just crouching, spamming dtilt, and wding to get around while still crouching. It's effective to a point, but is easy to figure out a way around.
For the more advanced Kirby users, it's good as a positioning tool. Kirby's wd distance is actually above average, and the odd range on some of his attacks allows you to get the upper-hand on people if you wd out of the way or wd into them. I find wding into a dsmash particularly effective. But by this point, people are already comfortable with wding and it comes without thought.

you should usually sprint before you WD with kirby to get max. distance.
Then you can dodge to for. ex get in Marths range.
Kirby s grab range is great... when I mess around with kirby I grab a lot.

WD seems pointless to me in that i am all ariels, althought i wd out of them and im also not too great of a kirby.
