Is there any use at all for the Mario Tornado, other than recovery? Back when in the SSB days, it was very useful, or at least seemed useful those times, for setting up combos. It was also pretty powerful. Now, my enemy nearly DIs out of it all the time. Is there any other use for this attack?

I don't think there's very many practical uses for the Mario Tornado. . .there's just entirely too much lag and not enough knockback for it to be applicable in a battle situation. I mean, Luigi's down-b is pretty decent b/c of the distance you can cover and its decent knockback, and the Mario Tornado has none of these qualities.
The only thing I've seen it used for outside of recovery is for a kind of pseudo 3rd jump (button mashing to gain height and escape mid-air juggling), or as a way to hit falling opponents by performing the tornado on the ground underneath them.
But otherwise, the Mario Tornado is essentially useless outside of recovery, IMO.
the tornado has other uses, youl could just throw it out as a suprise attack, i think if u hit with it once, it is a spike, i usually use it on the edge when a fastfaller is recovering, when it hits them, you can screw em up pretty bad, but there is always cape, i would just use this as suprise attack

You can actually combo fast-fallers with it at low %. Up-throw and use the tornado as they fall.

Isn't the Mario Tornado effective in Free-for-All Brawls / Riots when you're surrounded?
NEW: If used well, the Mario Tornado can also dodge attacks. I was playing my brother's Fox today and the Tornado helped me dodge some of his U-Airs. Anyway, it was more of a mind game then a technical skill, but the Tornado can be useful at times like those.

Congrajulations, you figured out how to stall with the tornado, or a stagger attack.
Stalling when someone is edgehoggingyou and they know your gonna have to up B right then, they'll start to get up, in which case you mario tornado through the time in which they get up, then up B. You faked them out. Give yourself a pat on the back.

I've used the tornado to surprise enemies before; if you're above an opponent, tap it once or twice to gain height, escape their attack, and then drop on them. Too late in the attack to DI away so you hit with the final part and bop them away, gives you breathing room.... in my particular instances I couldn't out-prioritize with dair or nair and didn't have my double jump, and on top of that I was near the edge... didn't want to trade hits so I just used the "pseudo-third-jump" to escape. Air-dodging might have been useful, but it turned out all right for me... it's kind of pointless to discount any move. There will always be some situation, no matter how specific, that it pays to be ready to use it in. Just remember that it has a long duration that can give you additional mobility, and if you hit with the end of it you can force some room between you and your opponent. Don't try to stay high up with it though, simply use it to delay your fall for a moment. If you stay up in the ether you're bound to be punished.

For that simply press down+B once, and then for the rest of it tap B as fast as you can while DI'ing toward the ledge. But for the most part, ChRed, I beleive Amish was asking for uses of the tornado while on land. Most people know about the recovery, but as for combo potential there just isnt much to go on. I mean you can't cancel the animation so using it really only helps at lower damage or when you know the opponent will roll. Other than that its really only a method for mind games.

about tthe only time i ever use this is to be fancy when im kickin someones ***, otherwise its risky as **** for not much pay off
EDIT: or there is also the use of when your falling down and you want to dodge and uair or something by staying just out of reach from their attack, but this too is risky unless theyre really slow

It is useful to use in 4 player melees, also in confined areas like the little platforms in Termina Bay. If you are fighting on Final Destination, don't use it or you'll get shpanked after they DI out and punish you.....so basically forget about it unless you think you can do some aerial kicks once they get into the air.

hey pronstarpwnzor i think you are the noob, because you have no idea what DI is. It is directional influence. If you need help with anything else feel free to ask me because I like to help newcomers to the game. Also remember that DI doesn't stand for "Dashing It" which you had thought it was...whatever that means......noob bot.

NO OFFENCE TAKING.
and by the way. one good thing for this is well, u know the down b recovery with the move. (jump Down b keep tapping b.). if u knock the opponent into the air u can get them caught into that for good damage and knock back.
